This is such a great channel. I never could get anyone to teach me to fish growing up, so now I'm 22 and learning to fish. Watching these makes me feel like I'm finally going fishing with my grandpa. Thank you for that!

My fondest memories of my father are of the times he took me fishing and squirrel hunting. We always fished in small rivers and farm ponds and hunted in the woods around our rural home. Those were the best of times.

I have a couple tips to add. Start fishing topwaters first thing in the morning. If you wait too long, most days, the topwater bite ends when the sun gets high. Overcast conditions help. Evening hours are also better than midday. Wait a few seconds before you begin your retrieve. Sometimes they'll bite it before it moves.

The last large mouth I caught was on my trusty snoopy pole I tied a popper on the doghouse casting weight thinking I'd catch a huge northern pike. Instead all I caught was a 17" largemouth bass at 6 years old with no adults around and no dip net. I haven't caught a largemouth bass at that lake since.. but I never used the snoopy pole for casting after that, I only use it for carp fishing now.

Agreed, except when the sun gets up. It positions the fish on shade line and deeper structure. You can still catch them on top water all day long with accurate casts in high percentage areas and shaded areas.

Gracias Bill Dance.

I'm 54, and just took fishing up again (I haven't put a hook in the water since I was 6). I made it a point that my 2 young cousins (8 and 10) had their own rod, reel and loaded tackle box last summer. The youngest one's best day was 3 bluegill and a perch off the dock, by herself. And she already knows the most important rule in angling: "Go away! You're scaring the fish!"

I have a lot of brothers and sisters, but going fishing with just me and my Dad was special for me. Even when I had to wake up before the sun came up. I usually fell back asleep in the car on the drive to the lake, but I still love fishing to this day and now I get to take my wife and kids with me.

One thing I have learned in Florida (South Central) I do not fish top water on flat calm days and I love to throw them in rough water... They eat them up on windy days even though i have always heard top water don't work on rough days, It does work and good. My best was a 16 pound bass on a rapala gold top water plug on a bad wind day. Try it

Thank you for the good pointers sir, I enjoy watching and learning something new, topwater lures are a new frontier to me👍 11/22/2021-It's been months but I caught a large bass on topwater for the first time several months back! I'm starting to improve and recently I caught some bass on the lure you used in this video adding it as my second successful lure in my tackle box, thank you Mr. Dance!

Are bigmouths ancestral? So 10 years ago, at my dock at Sherman reservoir in Nebraska, at my patio shoreside I had the biggest and hottest looking lunker always swimming from under the 20foot square patio and into the grassy shore area on mostly the southern side and it looked like she was shadowing a little school of fries. Never attacking them. I saw her get bigger and bigger for 3 years, I decided that the next year in the spring once the lake gets filled to full pool I'd go and catch her, get a pic and weigh her and get a state record or more, but that never happened, as that spring I got picked up by a local country band as their Bassist and then I never had any time to even think about fishing for 7 years. And the only place outside of Nebraska that I've played is leota ks crook co, and Pendleton ia (right after I quit drinking) lol!!! And here's the kicker none of my neighbors ever fished her (I'm a Marine Vet) and I asked them to leave her alone because really I enjoyed watching her raise her kids and get huge more than I would have enjoyed catching her. This summer I'm not going back to the band. This has actually the only winter that I've had every other weekend off in 7 years, and I love entertaining people really, but I'm missing out on life. So I bet she's gone and no body does bass fishing in my docks area because of the surroundings. Most bass fishers pass by because of the tight squeeze and lily pads. But would her offspring treat that area as their homestead? Could I get to see another momma cass bass?

Can somebody explain to me what these old school guys mean when they explain rod action? Does he mean a medium light power rod? Or does he mean a moderate-fast action? Medium/Medium-heavy is the rods power no? It’s confusing to me lol. When he says medium action I’m assuming he means a medium power 🤷🏻‍♂️
@Arientis
@Arientis 3 жыл бұрын
All that really means is how much bend is in the rod. Example: a medium fast action rod is gonna be able to parabolically bend almost halfway before it hits the backbone of the rod. The fast action means how fast it will jump back into place. Basically the power means how much bend can the rod do
@blackbirdrc8348
@blackbirdrc8348 3 жыл бұрын
@@Arientis yeah I know the power and actions of rods it’s just the way bill and other old school anglers call the power of a rod the “action” when he’s using his quantum accurist rods he says medium heavy action with a fast tip instead of medium heavy power with a fast action. Always confuses me lol
