I don't know who you Billiard Network people are, or where you came from, but this stuff gives me life. I know these videos don't get millions of views, but this is the kind of stuff that could really make people love this game, and I hope they keep coming. Earl is fantastic, but I like the other vids, too, Lely, Imran, NIels, all of this content has been great.

When earl was talking about a cosmo, he said he wasn't sure what it was. I seen in an older video that there was an old school player that danced named Cosmo that hung out at the janscos hustlers tournaments and he would set up runs where he could shoot stop shots on everything like tic tac toe. So they started calling easy run outs Cosmos.

Earl Strickland is great as a commentator. I want to watch many more matches that he commentates. Entertaining and instructional. I watched a video of Earl Strickland and Efren Reyes playing the finals of the 1995 Sands Regency Open (Efren shoots his famous “Z-shot” during this match). The commenters were Bill Incardona and Jim Rempe. Earl Strickland had a very easy straight-in shot. Bill Incardona said to Rempe ... we used to call that a Cosmo shot. Bill Incardona went on to say it was named after a guy named Cosmo who would set up the balls on the table and shoot all of them as stop shots, but between each shot he’d do a ballet dance moving to the next shot.

@gino2033
@gino2033 3 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised that Earl mentioned the head string as in the kitchen when he was calling a possible foul on the break. Well that terminology was made up as Billard playing moved out west. the east coast player were head n shoulders above west players because of the pool halls and longer time with the english sport and shooters back in the 1800's. Also the homes in the west were mostly temperary due to the work being Transit. So if a western family wanted a pool table in their home they usually made the table a smaller version and it would double as the dinning table. So you could get short cues to use when the shot was too close to the rail and the wall or posts or... Were making impossible to shot with standard cue size. But the break you needed room to shoot so the owner always had the head string side of the table facing the door way of the kitchen. Now the players out west as I said weren't as good shooters so they made up rules such as pocket fouls(scratch)a shooting at your balls(8 ball)regardless of your balls location for in coming player the table scratches were non-existent and still today many places still are using these rules.

I heard Sigel or some other player tell the story of the Cosmo. Cosmo was a pool player back in the day and he would come in and just break and run all the time. So when a player got a wide open break like that they would call it a Cosmo. Not much of a story really. :)

C'mon Earl, be honest, you would like the shot clock set at about eight seconds. Those Buddhists play tough! Sometimes I wonder if Earl thinks that 'luck' actually exists. The balls do exactly what physics says they should knowing the parameters of the shot, every time. There is no influence of anything else. If somebody opened a door on a very windy day and it caused a ball to fall that wouldn't or vise versa, I guess some people could call that luck, but really it is just everyday reality, even if a very unlikely case. "Go to Florida and try that". Yeah, no kidding, writing from Orlando. On the close table to the door you can see it change real time if the door has remained closed for a while and somebody opens it for several seconds to let others in, or worse, the keg guy comes and props it open for a couple of minutes. Spoiler: That was a see saw. At one point I would have given it to one, later to the other, and then the first guy comes back and wins it...great hill hill match.

“You Bet Your Life” The Tales of a Gambler By: Jerry Forsyth & Danny Diliberto The Janscos arranged for Tom Cosmo to open the evening matches with his show. Cosmo was from New York and I had first seen him in the late 50’s in Miami Beach where he was a nightclub performer. He was a great dancer and he sang as well but his name would prove to be his legacy. As part of his act he would put nine balls out on the table. The way he did it, so casual and all, it looked like he was just randomly putting the balls out on the table, but actually each ball was placed in exactly the same place every night. Then he could be singing and dancing and telling jokes and all the while he would be running this rack of Nine Ball. His clowning and singing distracted the crowds so many people didn’t realize that he was just hitting one easy stop shot after another. Your blind grandmother could have run those balls, but it looked good and became the touchstone for easy runs in Nine Ball. Today, whenever someone has a really easy table to run we say he has a Cosmo and that’s where the term originated, from Tom Cosmo in Johnston City. Cosmo actually was a pretty good Straight Pool player. He beat Jimmy Moore once that I know about. Jimmy had Cosmo down 124-17 in a race to 125 and Cosmo wound up beating him 125-124, so he could shoot the game pretty well. Cosmo was a clever guy. Before he would start his ‘run’ he would grab a twenty from someone in the audience and put Jackson’s face under the nine ball. Then when he pocketed the nine at the end of his ‘run’ he would pick up the twenty, grin, and put it in his pocket. The chump in the audience would never ask for it back because Cosmo acted like he had ‘won’ it by running the rack. To begin his act Cosmo would come out wearing a hat, a big fur coat, thick eyeglasses and gloves. He started with one-liners, pulling the gloves off of his hands as he spoke and the gloves just kept peeling off and piling up on the floor at his feet. The whole while those old vaudeville gloves were coming off the jokes just poured forth and he had the whole place roaring. It was a great show and the audience loved him. Cosmo was like Mel Tillis. When he talked he would stammer but he could sing like a bird. forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=27745&page=2

@@billiardnetwork I have to actually go into the member tab to see some of these. Don't know why KZfaq won't push it out to my main dashboard (I am subscribed and have notifications set to all)

In my opinion Skyler is one of the best players in the world but this is the worst I think I've ever seen him play. He missed a lot of shots. Got lucky as hell for about 4 or 5 games in a row. He shouldve got iced 9- 3 if it weren't for blind luck. This other kid took a few rounds off. Man Pijus Labutis played a kamikaze up match. Idk if this is how he always plays but he played real good here. Solid shooting in this match by Labutis.. Woodward? Not so much. I know to a certainty this is not Skylers best performance. This is his C- game. If he plays like this I can beat him. I know Skyler..I'm telling you if his on he can beat anybody in the world. Ofcourse I guess you could say that about pretty much any pro player. I'm just saying on average Sky plays damn near world class.
