Billie Eilish brings all the feels to her Oscars performance. The singer performed 'What Was I Made For?' at the 96th Academy Awards alongside her brother, Finneas, with whom she co-wrote the track for the 'Barbie' soundtrack. Following the performance, Billie and Finneas received a standing ovation from audience, including the 'Barbie' cast and fellow singer Ariana Grande. The 96th Academy Awards aired Sunday on ABC.

@@StaRRedKosvoxPeople who don't sing don't have a clue. They think Adele-like belts define singing. They don't get that the Barbie song was designed to be a fragile, breathy falsetto for emotional impact reasons. It was very deliberate. It kills me when these fools use the word whisper. It is not technically possible to whisper and hold a melody.

i hope Finneas gets as much recognition as Billie.... they both constantly help each other become who and where they are. He always genuinely and silently supports her but we all know he's also one of the genius producers that made Billie's songs 🥺🥺🥺❤️ they're a perfect duo. sibling goals indeed. See that smile after the last note - beaming with so much pride and joy. 😭 that he even gave her a big applause even if he likewise performed with her by playing the piano so well and singing/blending with her. he's literally the wind beneath her wings. what a great brother.

Billie’s true fans recognize Finneas and how much he brings to the table as far as Billie’s success is concerned. Tbh, Billie wouldn’t be where she is today if it weren’t for her brother. They’re very much a package deal and it blows my mind with how artistically gifted they are individually let alone as a duo. That being said, Finneas has his own music career; albeit not nearly as lucrative as his sister’s, but he does do his own thing creatively outside of what he and Billie work on. He has made a name for himself and is one of the most sought after producer/songwriters in the industry. His résumé is extensive and beyond impressive - I don’t know how he has time to sleep. Idk how familiar you are with the two of them (or the family as a whole), but in 2020 AppleTV released a documentary on Billie & her rise to fame. It highlights not only their sibling relationship but also their “work” relationship all within mixing in their family dynamics. They did an excellent job with it. I’m sure there’s a ton on YT that you’d be able to find as well. I normally don’t get so “into” artists anymore as I’m a mother with teenagers (hence how I came across Billie), but I have never heard music like hers. I have an extensive background in music and continue to be impressed with all of the work she releases. They’re something special, and deserve every award they’re not only nominated for, but receive.

@@aquagrlshe is definitely a songwriter, but has been very vocal in regards to her struggle with doing so. *However* , when it comes to producing music, from what they’ve shared with us, Finneas is very much the brains behind the operation. That’s not to say I’m completely discounting Billie because it’s obvious she brings loads of ideas to the table. The difference is that Finneas knows how to take those ideas and not only bring them to life, but embellish upon them. He’s walked through some of his process with song production and he will include, “Billie had this idea” and shows or plays what it was and it’s typically followed up with “then I added this”. When played together, it’s 🤩 Each of them are extremely involved in the process, but I have the feeling Finneas is much more comfortable staying in the supportive role. I can totally see him playing around with these songs for hours after Billie has gone home, perfecting them just so, (much like a chef would play around with a new recipe and figuring out that one spice needed to bring a dish together). If I’m not mistaken, Finneas has won every production award he’s been nominated for.

I get the sentiment but Finneas has said a few times that he is just about as famous as he wants to be. He likes creating with Billie but likes still being able to be out in public without being swarmed with fans like she is. He’s said that level of fame is tough and he’s glad he doesn’t have to “wear” it the way his sister does

I'm a 46 year old man so I'm definitely not in Billie Eilish's target demographic. I wasn't even watching the Oscars. It was just on in the living room when I happened to walk by as this performance started. It made me stop dead in my tracks to watch it and her performance kept me engaged throughout. It was a real moment and such a haunting emotional song performed stripped down the way it's supposed to be. The standing O was well deserved.

@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos Also, although 'Ken" is a great singing and dancing performance and serves the movie well, as a song, i.e.as a melody with meaningful lyrics it is not in the same league as the Billie song. WWIMF was perfect in the movie but has resonance way beyond the movie. Ken does not. Nobody is going to play "Ken" on the radio without video. Billie's song stands at 800 million streams. Ken is nowhere close. People are listening to Billie's song, crying when she sings it in concert. WWIMF is the first song in twenty-five years to win the Best Song Grammy and the Oscar. "Ken" will fade as the Barbie movie loses its status as a cultural icon. I think WWIMF will live on as one of the most memorable songs of the first decades of the twenty-first century.
