Box is more phyiscal and you need an ice rink to play, its tough to find that everywhere. Also you need more pads which also make the game more expensive, its a tough game to grow in the USA. In canada the game is booming!

It isn’t for no reason, this guy is a defenseman and it’s important to keep pressure on their offense and control their positioning, and not let them feel comfortable in the pocket. What he is doing is 100% allowed and expected of his position.
