Were you thinking about cheap living in Mexico, or living in Mexico, or moving to Mexico? This video is all about Cheap cities in Mexico for retirement, or if you are young and working on line, then this is about living cheap in Mexico.
People ask me all of the time about cheap cities in Mexico for retirement. People ask me, “Can I live cheap in Mexico?” Right after that they ask me, “Where can I live cheap in Mexico?”
So if you you are thinking about saving money in Mexico, or if you want to live cheap in Mexico, in the video you will see places that nobody ever talks about.
Sure, many people wonder how to retire in Mexico, and they want to retire cheap in Mexico. They want to know about cheap places to retire in Mexico. They come right out and ask me, “Hey, Bill the Geek, can I retire cheap moving to Mexico?'
But many people that watch our videos are not at retirement age, they are younger and they want to know about renting cheap in Mexico.
So you can retire cheap living in Mexico, or you can just live cheap by moving to Mexico if you are working on line. Many Expats tell their friends in the US and in Canada, “Retire in Mexico Now!”
Oh, I am Bill the Geek and this is the Bill Dallas Lewis Channel. We make videos about the joys of living in Mexico.

I am 81, and moved to Queretaro in 2021. I was 20, when I first came to Mexico, and fell in love with Acapulco for over 61 years. I have visited around the world, and all 50 USA states on my own dime. Earthquakes were the deal breakers for retiring in Acapulco. I have been speaking Spanish since age 14 as a second language.

Certainly, Acapulco was amazing back in the day, but today not so much so anymore. Back then, I visited Puerto Vallarta when it was still a very small village. I loved the tropical climate around P.V. - it is where the jungle begins!!! Acapulco lost much of it's charm, but even today P.V. has still is charming.

I am heading there, too! Keep hearing about how bad the food is (and I experienced it myself when I visited the first time), which makes me consider Guadalajara, too. I have a friend from Guadalajara. Do you like it? What neighborhood did you move to?

We were there in Acapulco for the big earthquake there 2 years ago - and it was 120 seconds of sheer terror! But, I have to say, that the recent hurricane sounded tons worse! I will do a video on the hurricane there soon. One woman I am speaking to had her refrigerator go flying out the window of her 7th floor apartment in the hurricane while her apartment fell apart around her; she is so lucky that both she and her dog lived through it. The hurricane lasted for about 7 hours and the people sounded totally traumatised from it!

@@WeDidntExpectthis i USED to go to Acapulco, but it's overrun by gangs today and the last time I was there the Main avenue looked like a Xmas tree with all the police or military operations going on, fu there. My wife and I relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. We rented a beautiful 3brm/3ba home in a very nice neighborhood, for 8000 pesos ($400 USD) per month. If you're not infatuated, or demanding beach front property, Mexico is very affordable. There's a lot more to Mexico, than laying on the beach. Due to the elevation, and mild climate, we don't need home heating or A/C. Morelia population is around 750K. Best move ever!

You know Bill - this video of yours was just a beginning if your intention is to uncover all the hidden gems of places for gringo expats to live in Mexico. You should really do a more thorough and comprehensive search - I'm sure you would discover a lot of real hidden gems. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of all these videos about places to retire in Mexico with all the same over-rated and upscale, touristy places for gringos to live - the same tired old places over and over again. Keep up the good work, brother!

The best place to retire is Chapala Lake, any of the towns around it. Ajijic is a favorite. The climate is great! I don't recommend to move to the village because of the firecrackers on their feast days, that in some towns like Ajíjic will start around the 30th of November for their patron Saint, it will continue for the festivity of Dec 8 and 12, and continue through the whole month of December. They start at 5 AM until after 9 am. I used to have a house there. I did not mind the noise. But can be annoying for some one. But to live there is a delight.

We are cool weather lovers, speak Spanish, and are currently living in Matagalpa, Nicaragua….all in for about $1100/month… Next we plan to live in Guatemala for 6 months then Mexico for 6 months, before heading to South America. Im there NOW, and 2021 prices dont mean s***! Dont waste your time. Prices have doubled. My best advice to you is take what ever city you WERE thinking about and find the next two or three smaller towns around them and you might have a year or two at these prices before those areas are blown out also. Dont listen to anyone quoting prices from two years ago!! Get real. Youll be lucky if 6mo old information is still current by the time you get there. I was surprised. We have lots of Walmarts here in Mazatlan, but no Costco. PV has Costco and GDL, but not here and they deliver food right to where you live. Many of my neighbors use this service. I spent a few months in Vallarta in the winter of 2018, sharing a 2 bedroom apartment about 10 minutes walk from the beach in Old Town. It cost about $400 a month, not including utilities. When the friend I shared the apartment with returned to Vallarta last winter, the new place he rented was A LOT MORE. Probably around 3 times the cost of the place we shared in 2018. Not sure if he'll return there next winter, but if I return to Mexico at some point, it won't be to Vallarta.

Howdy Bruce, Yeap, I had a great place in PV for 5 years. Everything was new, secure, internet, fully furnished. $400 US per month. Rent did not go up for 5 years. I don't know what it would be now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Best, Bill

I have visited P.V. since it was a small village and even today it hasn't lost it's charm. It does get crowded in high season, so I go there off season - not so sure how I'd like it during more crowded times. Maybe Huatulco would be a better place, because it's not so crowded and probably will remain pristine for a very, very long time.

I'm not current, but always find a place and usually right in the center of everything. Some locations outside of PV were actually priced higher, so in PV there's competition, so maybe the prices are high during high season, but you can get local pricing not far from the ocean and of season prices are half off everywhere - you can expect that. Still, there's so many nice places in Mexico - you can find outstanding prices everywhere only it can be true during high season prices can be higher.

Thanks again Bill for reporting on cheap cities. I don't accept the pricing sometimes, because I've been around Mexico enough to know I can always find an excellent place given I'm willing to consider the Colonias around the cities - those that stay in the tourist areas usually have to pay a premium, but not far away there's excellent choices closer to the locals which is fun, too.

it’s interesting to see you included a Colima place in the list, while not many other youtubers mentioned this place, do you have some detailed video when driving, visiting there? How do you feel the safety there in Colima? there is a reason because US States included Colima in Do Not Travel section, while other Mexican states are only in normal Exercise Increased Caution When Traveling, - Colima state due to crime and kidnapping
@BillDallasLewis
@BillDallasLewis Жыл бұрын
Yes, when I was headed there for those videos, there were comments about things going on in Colima. Things being burnt and and things like that. I was checking out the Expat groups of people that live there. But I had a guide as I mentioned in the video. She has lived in Mexico for as long as I have, and she decided that Comala, 10 mintues from Colima, was the best place to raise her 2 year old daughter. The place, Comala, we wonderful. I had no problems and I decided right there that I could live there. i was wonderful. So, whatever. I go places that other KZfaqrs don't go to. Mexico is great and safe all over. Best, Bill the Geek

Hola Low Flyer, Just pick a spot and sign up for that spot, then look around while in that spot. I think that Ajijic is a good spot for starting out because people speak English there, and you can ask a lot of questions. Ajijic is not my spot. I lived in the area and it was great, just not my spot. I have lived near the ocean in Puerto Vallarta and now here in Mazatlan. I have learned that being close to the ocean doesn't matter to me. I have fallen in love with Guanajuato. It all depends on how you live your life day to day. Take a good look at that. Hope some of this helps, Best and Good Luck, Bill The Geek

Howdy Mrs. P, I would say the thing is to find a landing spot. Don´t get married to that spot. Maybe this spot is a one year spot. Use that spot to travel around and see what you like. I liked Durango, but, I was there in the winter and it was 30 degrees in the morning, but, it went up to 72 everyday. I like it, but I am going elsewhere. Find a landing spot and then travel around, Mexico is vast and great. Good Luck, Bill the Geek

Hola Mr. Gomez, Jocotepec it about at 20 minute drive from Chapala or Ajijic. I would say it is about an hour and a half drive from Guadalajara. If you are checking out the Puerto Vallarta area, check out Bucerias, that is about 10 miles from PV and the prices should be cheaper. Good luck and thanks for watching. Best, Bill

Be sure to check the US Travel Advisory on Mazatlan. The last I saw, US residents were strongly advised against going anywhere except Centro, the newer beach north of Centro and the airport, without stopping between. Centro was pleasant, but check to see whether the beach suits you.

It's right above Plaza Mexiamoras, which is right above the Teatro Principal. Check it out! I found them in my Lonely Planet guide to Mexico. I have been to Durango as well. My astrologer pointed that city out to me, since I have two grand trines there by relocation. My natal Ascendant is in Scorpio, and I went there and discovered that the city mascot is a scorpion!
