The fact that Gen Z seriously thinks shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe are evidence to a secone "Golden Age" of cartoons is really fucking sad. Like, no insult meant, it is legitimately sad. Shows like Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog and/or Hey Arnold (among lots of others from the 90's-early 2000's) were evidence of the sheer potential cartoons fucking had. They took notes from the past generation of Hanna Barbara and Looney Tunes shows and blended them into things that was genuinely hilarious while also having a lot of heart. I'd argue The Tower of Dr. Zalost from Courage the Cowardly Dog and Hey Arnold's Christmas episode are among some of the greatest cartoon shorts to ever fucking exist. What do kids have nowadays? Incohesive, stupid momentary material from Teen Titans Go that is simply trying to capitalize on internet meme culture? Ugh. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we didn't stop watching CN and Nick because we "got older", past 2005 they just genuinely started airing some actual garbage, and by the time they realized what they were doing wrong everyone had left and their standards had been lowered.
