"No bacon in my sandwich, if you please". Hmm...an acknowledgement to Morrissey being a vegan, I wonder? At any rate, great version of this tune. I love the whole vibe and feel of it. Very fun and lively. Been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since i discovered them (late) in 1986. Obviously Mr. Bragg is a fan as well. Dig it! Thank you, Billy! Well done, sir.

They shared many a stage in the 80's. Johnny Marr plays on and co-wrote a handful of songs will Bragg as well.

Thought that line made the song Billy's. Tough thing to do on a Smiths cover, huh?

@bigbadbillb Morrissey was a vegetarian at the time, not a vegan.

why do people compare it to morrissey's version? it sounds good enough and sounds like his song. good cover

Because the Smiths version is better than this redo. that having been said Bragg does a great rendition of the Smith's - Jeane

Braggy is like a god. A man of the people. He did once receive a $1M advance. Nice to see virtue rewarded.

@@Harry_84 almost as though he were just playing a part, or a character. I do wonder if he just lost the faith. or if he ever really had the faith to begin with... you have to remember that he joined the Queen's army (AFTER he had already began his early music career). And, according to online sources, he then 'bought himself out'. So we have a good socialist. a poet. but he isn't having any fame. So this proven bootlicker signs up for the army. Willing to kill or be killed for his paymasters (at that time, his masters would have been Queen Elizabeth II and MARGARET THATCHER). He accused me of 'not caring about other people' because i wouldn't get a government-enforced experimental vaccine. Because he's a dirty little charlatan...even the (famously stupid) Nicky Wire has called ol' bignose out for being a hypocrite.

i especially liked it when Bill met with the old Queen. When he was mocked for his hypocrisy he claimed he done it to 'make his old mum happy' we see you bill.... we all see you. I remember being mildly involved in the SWP back in the mid 90s. a few folks back then had already seen through his facade. At that time i couldn't really see it. But (especially once you take away his genuinely beautiful love songs) it's so clear to me that he was always a dog in a sheep's jacket

@@fuzzy1237Disgusting of you to compare your antivax delusion to the atrocity of apartheid. Nobody is oppressing you. You're free to refuse the shot. And the rest of us are free to avoid you and whatever diseases you're carrying. Pretty simple. Unlike actual Apartheid, under which people face real oppression simply for being born the wrong color. Turn off the Facebook and try reading a history book. I think you've had enough internet for the day, Granddad.

Foreshadowing is my favorite narrative tool. Billy calling for an end to NATO and here we are with WWIII on our doorsteps because Ukraine won't back down from their NATO ambitions. "It's the bombs that will bring us together." :(

@@TechWeb68 If Zelenskyy agreed to not pursue NATO membership this war would end tomorrow. Russia, German and America were all ready to sign a peace agreement before this all started but Zelenskyy declined because war is the only way for him to retain power. Sorry but the truth hurts sometimes.

i think the thing is, i love his voice, but bragg doeesn't have a convientially "good" voice, unlike Morrissey. I do agree, I enjoyed his political spin on it as well as his tongue in cheek "no bacon in my sandwich if you please".

Well, the music wasn’t bad, it’s just that the vocals sound utterly horrific - like some drunkard in the pub on a Friday night! Now, I’m not saying Billy can’t sing a decent song, you only have to listen to “A New England” to see that, I’m just saying that this was unlistenable
@tendercomrade23305 жыл бұрын
I think that's what I mean by the Billy charm He's never been renowned for a great, conventional singing voice But I just love that he has the balls to sing a song by a singer who is so different to him

Ghastly. He sounds like a drunk Paul Weller (even worse, actually) and butchers the chorus with his merciless grunts.
