They are in another dimension… us mortals, musicians, buffs, can only wonder how they do it, how they think…

Was privileged to see them 5 times in the early 70's. Stunning live. Stunning today on KZfaq.

More than 50 years ago and it still is unequaled. Matteo Mancuso comes close but his band doesn't have Billy Cobham and Jan Hammer. Truly monsters

Man I thought that this song was incredibly fast on the inner flame, but Billy is playing it even faster live. He speed and ability is superhuman.

I was thinking the same thing. 😂 I got that album when I was 14, and it changed my entire perception of music.

I love Billy Cobham when it comes to drums that’s why I clicked on this thumbnail. There has to be some love to Jerry Goodman because he’s a fiddle playing maniac lol. The original lineup was my favorite.

I wonder how many musicians could be able to perform this holy crap live: The Mahavishnu Orch was a revelation when I was a youngster, amazing Cobham even though my fav drummer is Joe Morello.

Never watch something like this, then go try to practice, you will hate everything you play. Wait a day, let it absorb, then go woodshed.

Nah man, I've been around long enough to know it's super slow going at first. Baby steps @@BigWesLawns It's already paying off.

I loved this stuff in ‘72 and ‘73. Not sure what I think about it now. Looking back on early live footage, it seemed to some extent, Billy and Jerry’s band, more than John’s.
@frannckenfrey2 ай бұрын
All the compositions are from John........ therefore it's John"s band

Unlike other band leaders, Mclaughlin always WANTS his musicians to overplay as much as possible. Just ask Dennis. No instructions just go for it! There is a cool short clip of Billy and Mclaughlin on a red strat just jamming like kids in the garage with no band yet (Montreux). Would love a DVD of that show.
