I'm 13 and when ever I hear this song i rember waking up as a little kid going down stairs and either seeing my dad cooking brakefast or helping him in the garage, both of witch he was never wareing a shirt. I will never stop loveing this song and the memories it brinks back.

Billy Joel is a talented musician. Anyone who does not believe that, well... let me put it this way. He is nicknamed "The Piano Man" for a reason. He has composed over 100 songs in his career in addition to "Piano Man."

In Jr High, I was in choir, and I loved Billy Joel, and so did the teacher, he ended up making 30 kids learn 3 or 4 Billy Joel songs... this was one of em. The vocals are great with that NY accent. He almost sounds like a mad gangster.

This song and "Video killed the radio star" were the two songs that kicked off the 80s. 1980 was an interesting year - that little era between disco falling flat on its face a year earlier (after being absolutely run into the ground during 1977/1978), and the beginning of MTV a year later, so I guess it's appropriate to have a song about changing trends (and expressing a degree of indifference towards them) during a big "changeover" era for trends

I tell my son “you can’t dress trashy till you spend a lot of money” and he looked at me like “huh?” So I used it as a teaching moment to introduce him to the songs of Billy Joel. He bought a $600 pair of Air Jordan’s …then another, then another… he still dresses crappy in my opinion but his teachers tell me they love his shoes
