In the summer of 1987, Billy Joel accepted the Kremlin’s invitation to the U.S.S.R. for six fully-staged rock shows in Moscow and Leningrad, fulfilling a longtime desire to perform in Russia and permanently affecting the spirit of the country ahead of the Soviet Union’s dissolution in 1991.

That's the greatness of 35mm film!! When things are filmed digitally they're permanently stuck at that fixed state,even with upscale. Transferring film to digital will look like this!!! I'm LIVING for restored film!!😍

This version is on a faster pace. It sounds better than the original. Moreover, this song is on a higher key than the usual Billy Joel songs, it shows the versatility and range of his voice. What a performance!

Billy Joel has a quality that has made him so successful, beyond his massive talents as singer, musician, composer and lyricist. That quality is stage-craft--or you could call it showmanship or pageantry. He knows how to connect with his audience and show emotion through gesture, acting, stage position, dancing, facial expressions, interacting with his band, as well as music and singing. It's on display here more than usual as he works so hard to communicate the spirit of the songs to his non-English-speaking audience.

He's doing well to stay so energetic, hardly taking a breath, moving around a lot - no wonder the sweat's streaming down his face. And it doesn't detract from his performance at all, in fact its a lot more uptempo than the original.

My Dad died 02. Jan 2024, and my Grandpa died 15. Jan 2024. They both liked and loved Billy Joel and his Music! It was their both wish to meet him one day but sadly it never happened. Now it is on me, i hope one day to meet him and just make a Picture with him, like Tom hanks in "terminal", this woud be the greatest gift for me, my dad and grandpa. I miss you both! And Billy? keep on rocking!!

Песня знакомая, а об исполнителе впервые узнала вчера, когда искала кто поет Pressure, уж очень она мне по радио недавно понравилась.. Печально, что после таких веселых американских концертов так жестко поломалась наша жизнь.

Aurora also does things like that. For example in her song "churchyard" near the end she starts adding an "erè orò erè" in between pretty much every line. But that's just an example, she does it in most of her songs

All the videos from this concert are really so good. The video quality is somehow more clear than a lot of modern videos. Not to mention the downright amazing musical performances. Another video from this same concert "Big Man on Mulberry Street," it is hard to believe it's a live recording. So impressive!

This was my mum's favourite song in the 1980s. I can't swear to it being her all-time favourite though - one of the questions that I wished I'd asked before she died 35yrs ago. I've avoided listening to this song over the years, as it's got the power to choke me up (as it's doing right now). But I'm drawn to it today and I'm glad that I watched it (several times). Never take your mother for granted and ask all those important family history questions, while you can. I lost my mum when I was still a teenager - I didn't ask enough questions and now I'll never know the answers.

Still listening in 2019 This reminds me of what I said to my husband when I met him back in 1998. He "tooted" from the "dark side of his moon" 😏.. 🍃 I was appalled! 😨 The way I was raised I was told it's rude to "let one rip". *"Uptown Girl"* I was. 👸 He broke me of that. 😁 Truth! I like this song It is very upbeat and easy to hear. But I think It is too difficult to sing. There is no break during verse. I was almost dead while singing this song. What a great performance!
