We suffered through Bill Curry, Joker Phillips etc. Since Stoops arrived we have developed fantastic facilities and a winning football program. At a school whose only claim to Football Fame was having Bear Bryant as coach in the 1950s. Unfair assessment of Stoops and the program. LOVE your shows, though!

@@jaylucien669 Mark Stopps is a decent coach, not horrible and not great. He’s overall improved Kentucky. We’ve done lots of 7-5 and 8-4’s. I for sure like what Mike Elko is going to bring, there’s more upside there. Thanks but we’re good. You can keep em.

winning football program that goes 7-5 every year? I mean, c’mon. Thats winning? Thats what A&M is trying to prevent. Elko was the best hire and he’s been doing a kick ass job this offseason

stoops and elko were in a simmilar situation with the programs they were at. so the hiring of stoops wasn't a horrible call but elko is the better choice simple bc he knows the program and the program remebers the great defense he had while he was a coordinator

Yah, and A&M would have to pay ~70% of what they paid Jimbo just to get stoops out of Kentucky. THEN they would have to sign him to 9.5-10 million per year o. Top of that.

Aggys act like blew off stoops to hire Jimmy Johnson. Lol. You blew off kentucky 's football coach for dukes football coach. Lol. And then your god awful AD, he that gave jimbo all the gold in fort knox and was the last guy in the country to be told Texas was coming to the sec, left you for a far better job. And then you hired nebraska's AD. Lol..does nebraska even still participate in mens athletics?

Which Aggie broke your heart? Dang, you've got a lot of pain to unload!!! LOL First of all, Elko was DC for A&M and did an amazing job with Top 5 defenses each year. Aggies know and love him. Don't take it personal, dude. At Duke, with 2* and 3* athletes, takes a 2-win team and goes 8-4. He then beats #9 Clemson 28-7. Notre Dame had to score a last minute TD to beat Duke last year. Then their starting QB, Riley Leonard get's injured and still takes North Carolina to 2 OTs. You can keep Stoops...we're good...LOLOLOL

People dont realize that Stoops helped coach that 2001 Miami hurricanes defense, he is highly respected by NFL legends like Ed Reed, ray Lewis, he also coached Sean Taylor. He built the defense that Jimbo Fisher won a championship with in 2013. Stoops has built Kentucky into a solid respectable program, and whether casuals or haters want to admit it Kentucky has been a top 5-6 SEC football program over the last 6-7 years. He consistently has Kentuckys defense as a top 2-3 unit in the league, other than last season his defenses have been one of the better units in the conference. He just hasn't had any luck with offensive coordinators and cant keep a good one. I heard from people close to the program that stoops was gonna take the A&M job an then changed his mind, andnin order to save face A&M made it look like they changed theirs. Which wasn't true. It doesn't matter if the fans like it or not, a major university isn't going to make a coaching decision based off what some fans think. Lol. Im glad stoops stayed at UK, but A&M fumbled the ball on that one if its really true that they changed their mind, because if stoops ever got A&M football money and resources? He would reach championship level with consistent top 5 recruiting classes. He is one of the more underrated coaches in the country, but has a style that sometimes i think works against him. He plays too conservative sometimes and it has hurt him a bit. If he ever got a really good offensive coordinator to stay for a while he would he winning 10 games a year.

Think what you want, but A&M was never going to ink Stoops once word got out he was a possibility. You can LOL all you want, but its obvious you have no idea how things work at schools you aren't familiar with. A&M has a history of hiring coaches the fan base isn't on board with, sometimes with disastrous results. They were not going to make that mistake again. It really doesn't matter whether Stoops got wind of that and backed out first or A&M pulled the offer after he agreed to come. If you want to assert the former is true, fine. It may have been. It doesn't matter. Stoops was never going to be the A&M coach once his name was floated, probably by someone who didn't think it was a good idea. Period. There's probably a lot of truth in the rest of what you say here but not in regard to what happened with A&M.

@@scott1564 I'm glad stoops didn't end up at A&M, but even if Alot of fans didn't like the hire partially because their not educated on the man, and don't know much about him, I'm sure A&M would make the hire the athletic department thinks would have been the right guy, regardless of what fans think. If they actually did hire stoops and he came in there and started winning they would change their tune I'm sure. Just like I said stoops was Jimbo's defensive coordinator at FSU ultimately before he left and took a head coaching job at UK. People who are actually plugged in with college football in general knows stoops was the guy that built that FSU defense that ultimately helped Jimbo win his only championship. You give stoops any of the rosters Jimbo has had in the last 5-6 years and he would have made the playoffs once or twice.
@scott1564
@scott1564 Ай бұрын
@@Wetrockstah2116 the idea that Stoops would have succeeded at A&M where Jimbo failed is almost nonsensical. Stoops' record at UK over his 11 years is 73-65, which puts him 10th in the SEC for schools during that tenure. You can't blame lack of talent, which is HIS fault anyway, or the school's lack of ability to draw football players, for all of that. I've seen him coach and actually lose games due to his immaturity on the sideline. He's drawn more than one 15-yard penalty because he got pissed off at a call (that was correct, by the way) and took his team out of position to win. His record is worse than schools like Pitt, West Virginia, Stanford, Washington State, UCLA, and even Baylor. Not to mention SEC schools like State and Mizzou, neither of which have football powerhouse recruiting programs or the name to draw talent. Plus, pretty much all of those schools have had multiple coaches during Stoops' tenure at UK. I'm glad you like him, but frankly, no one else thinks a lot of him. He's got more 5-7 and 7-6 records than anything else. At some point, HE has to take responsibility for that. The 2 10-win seasons were flukes, and were 3 and 6 years ago.
@Wetrockstah2116
@Wetrockstah2116 Ай бұрын
@@scott1564 you can't really count his first 3-4 years at UK against him really. He came in and the program was literally down torwards the bottom with Vanderbilt. Had a 2-10 season, and really didn't get a full roster of recruits he recruited until 2016. Since then he has finished with a winning record every season other than Covid and even during covid the team ended up being better than the record indicated, and had some close games against some solid teams. Although he experienced a death with his online coach John Schralman dying of cancer. Which hurt them a bit. He has built Kentucky into a solid program since hired, and no he hasn't made a playoff, or Atlanta, but he definitely has had the team in good position multiple times to make it to Atlanta. Which is pretty good considering Kentucky just started investing in the football program since his tenure. UK has known to be a basketball school and for good reason, they dominated the SEC in such a fashion in hoops through history that football never got much attention. That's not the case anymore. You never would have thought Kentucky would beat out programs like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Michigan, Florida, Auburn, Penn state ect for recruits 10 years ago. That's where he has the program now. Consistently recruiting in the top 25, landing top 10 transfer portal classes, just landed a high profile target today as a matter of fact that picked Kentucky over Alabama and other high profile football programs. He would have been in Atlanta playing for the SEC championship in 2018 and 2021 if it wasn't for Georgia. He couldn't get past Georgia. His teams are consistently one of the toughest, most physical and well coached on defense in the country almost every season, he is highly respected and when you say he isn't, you are just stating your opinion because of your lack of knowledge on what the man has done, and where he comes from. Look at his resume, he has been a crucial part of some really strong defenses in college football, from the 2001 Miami hurricanes, to building the defense that have Jimbo his only championship. Give the man his credit he has built Kentucky into a solid football program, and yeah with the resources at a place like A&M he would be in the playoffs. Like his brother Bob stoops who won a championship as the head coach of Oklahoma in 2000, the man could at a program with more investment. Although Kentucky is coming.
@Wetrockstah2116
@Wetrockstah2116 Ай бұрын
@@scott1564 and to correct you stoops has been more successful than literally every single program you mentioned over the last 6-7 years. He has beat Missouri more often than not, and Mississippi State as well. He was a huge reason why Florida has went downhill, say what you want but starting in 2017 Kentucky all of a sudden started to compete with FL, almost beating them, ultimately beating them in the swamp in 2018, should have beat them in 2019, and currently has a 3 game winning streak against the Gators. See Florida had a good team in 2018 when UK beat them at home, Florida started to feel like their program was going downhill and ultimately fired Dan Mullen, which was stupid IMO, because he literally just had them in Atlanta playing Alabama for the SEC championship not too long ago before they fired the man. Stoops has struggled with Tennessee, even in years where Kentucky was a better team, like in 2018, and 2021. But he has beat the vols twice, but he has owned the Gators and South Carolina as well. He has wins over a top 15 penn state team in the 2018 citrus bowl, and a top 15 Iowa in the 2021 citrus bowl. I think it's safe to say although he has not got over the hump in winning an SEC championship, or making a playoff, he has had Kentucky as a top 5 program over the last 6 years in the SEC. You have to consider that nobody else is beating Georgia either, and Alabama, well while Saban was there, because we don't know what bama is gonna looks like now. But look at the overall SEC over the last 6-8 years, Stoops been pretty solid, especially competing in the SEC, if you say he hasn't your just hating.
