Bill was just fooling around with his guitar with Marta during some down-time. It wasn't originally supposed to be part of the episode. |Irwin Allen liked it and told them to perform it as part of the episode.

OMG - how i dont remember ever seeing this episode - and i've watched this series so many many times. Ah I know why i dont remember that scene - because by the time i saw this series - it was being shown at 5:00 in the evening and whittled down to a 20 min episode - this was one of the many scenes that was cut out.

Funny thing is, by the plot of the show, this real life then recent success would be god the Robinsons a very old song from a forgotten past. A bit like us singing “Oh Suzannah”

Not really. They launched in 1997. The song was written in 1916 and has been played and recorded by many. It has been published by at least four dozen groups since the 1950s, up through 2022. So it would have been likely it was still a popular and fun song to learn and sing even in the Lost in Space universe. Besides, old songs have a life of their own. Amazing grace was written in 1772 and published in 1779, yet 190 years later, it was being recorded by stars like Elvis and Aretha Franklin. You thought it would be "ancient" because you thought of it as the Beach Boy's 1967 release and hit.

It’s a pity that a television show which started off with so much potential and greatness went from being a show about the Robinson family to a goofy Dr. Smith robot and Will Robinson show.
