This is by far the BEST rendition of Freebird and Billy, I've ever heard. You are fabulous! Gave me chills. Billy is smiling down from heaven! 🕊🎹

Dude, I’ve probably commented on this before, but my lord this couldn’t be more perfect than if Billy Powell himself was playing it. I have to come back to it from time to time because of how ridiculously deep your playing captures the EXACT emotion of the solo. It’s scary almost. Those who happen to stumble across this are quite lucky.

This is so beautiful. Such a great, emotional, tribute to Billy and his live Freebird solos, with your own personal touch. When I was a kid, I’d rewind the live videos and cd’s that my dad had and would watch/listen to Billy cut loose and rip his white piano during that part over and over again. And now I’m watching this video over and over. Just beautiful. I was born in 91 and grew up worshiping Skynyrd. They were the main band that made be get into playing music, and I always thought, outside of the skynyrdshpere, if you will, that Billy Powell was the best, most underrated pianist, ever. And was one of the main reasons, out of many, that made skynyrd as a whole, such a unique band. Hopefully it wasn’t like that in the 70s during Skynyrds prime and that Billy got the props he deserved, but I don’t know of anyone who had the style and groove and talent that he did. When I first saw this video I damn near cried. Thank you so so much. I’m glad his spirit and influence lives on

I've watched this video probably 200 times (no joke). Your performance is astonishing! It's the best cover of this song, and so far, the only one done with such accuracy to the version done by Billy Powell! At 1:57, you sound exactly like he did at every concert before his death. I know right now, he's looking down at you, smiling for how great of a job you did bringing his piano playing back to life again.

Thomas, words do not suffice to describe the emotion you put into your playing. Free Bird is my all time favorite song. I play the piano as well and would describe myself as a decent player but I am nowhere on your level. Your right flows effortlessly and your left keeps impeccable rhythm. Thanks for sharing!

How'd you learn Billy's part? Just by ear?
@paulrichard84742 жыл бұрын
TOM...PLEASE...Digitally record this with high quality and then put it on KZfaq! Your intro and rendition is NOTHING SHORT OF SUPERB - you could stand-in as the pianist for the latest version of Lynyrd Skynryd - but is muddied down acoustically from where you performed it.

Nerdy piano playing - Elton John doesn't play like a nerd. I listened to about half of it, and I didn't hear any Free Bird
@Account-ru8wt7 жыл бұрын
Frank Collins it's in there though. And "playing like a nerd"....... funny because music is what makes us all the same no insults no one higher up or anything, too bad you can't find that beauty in life through music
@1091Floyd217 жыл бұрын
I do find that beauty in life through music. Don't be so quick to assume. For me, this doesn't really sound good to listen to. Okay, it's fast and hard to do... I get that much. As for sounding enjoyable? I don't know!
@landn7511 жыл бұрын
first part was ok. second part kicked some serious ass though !!!
@lilysdaddy0811 жыл бұрын
Kathy, don't be ridiculous. Billy Powell wanted his music to inspire people. He wanted his music and his tradition to be kept alive. Thomas is doing exactly that. You think by making an ignorant "revelation" that he's NOT Billy Powell is educating him or something? He never said he was Billy Powell. Take your ignorance elsewhere.
