I was in the US Army 1962-64, but was fortunate to stay in the States. This song honors my brothers who served in Nam, and were so savaged when they returned in the 1960s. Powerful.

To the younger generations… there were no Rambo’s, there wasn’t any glamour. This was a brutal war that most won’t ever know the true story. 2.5 million BRAVE men and women served. 58,479 gave their all. Kindly remember this.

I was born in 70. My uncle served. One of my best friends served. I found him dead on his living room floor 3/3/20. He didn't die in the war, but it killed him nonetheless. I remember the men coming home as a kid. My house was like "Rocky Dennis' house in the fim "Mask", starring Cher, lol. I always knew which ones they were and remember crawling up on their laps. Mostly bikers, so-called "hippies" back then. They would let me touch their vests, patches and read their tattoos. Once in a while, one would seem "uncomfortable"...but I would just give them big hugs. I knew where they were returning from and was a pretty sharp kid. I'd seen stories on the news, heard adults talking. "War" felt intrinsically wrong to me, even at that young age...and it still does. I remember crying some nights when asking my mom questions about her friends & "The war", as she tucked me in at night.. I just wanted them all to come home and be like they were before. War destroys souls... RIP T Poe Varnado ❤

I was 9-10 years old when we were living in Salt Lake City and my parents took me to my first concert, Billy Joel River of Dreams. I’ll never forget how much I loved it and every summer we went on an epic road trip and blared Billy in the van. I’m 38 now and served in the military so when I hear Billy Joel in general let alone Good Night Saigon it just all hits different now.

I have never been able to listen to this song without crying. I cry about the futility of war. I cry for all soldiers who lost their lives and blood on foreign soils or seas. I cry grateful tears to the men and women who are soldiers protecting our country. The veterans singing backup is the best sound.

When this album was released and veterans heard this song many thought that Billy HAD to have been there. Nobody that wasn’t ‘in country’ could possibly get it THAT right! This, ALLENTOWN, and DOWNEASTER ALEXA show just how Billy can connect with such hard situations in life. He’s such a brilliant writer he can express what needs to be expressed to teach Americans something they don’t know about.

God bless the soldiers who had to lived through this nightmare of a “police action”, such a senseless waste of Americans. And to top that they were not recognized for their efforts and treated like crap when they returned, as if they asked to be put into the position they had to endure.

Banker David Lang verbatim quote at bankers confab discussing institution of a new international bank the "Global Environment Facility", which is anything but, despite the nice environmental sounding platitudes. "I suggest there fore that this be sold not through a democratic process - that would take too long and devour far too much of the funds - to educate the CANNON FODDER, unfortunately, which populates the earth...."
