Christian Scott trumpet / reverse flugel / sirenette, Logan Richardson sax, Lawrence Fields piano / keys, Max Mucha bass, Corey Fornville drums, Weedie Braimah percussion
Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah reaches a wide audience with innovative music. A new highlight is his recent album Ancestral Recall, which connects all kinds of rhythms: West African, First Nation and Caribbean, as well as rock, hip-hop, trap and 808-beats. With beautifully designed instruments such as reverse flugel and sirenette he creates a sound that is embedded in the music, drawing comparisons to Jon Hassell and mid-80s Miles Davis.
Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah has conquered important festivals such as North Sea Jazz and Transition, and reached the top of the Downbeat Critics Polls, as a trumpeter and as a composer. He has collaborated with big pop and rock stars such as Prince, Jill Scott and Thom Yorke, and with influential rappers such as Mos Def, Boogie and Vic Mensa. His roots are in the jazz of New Orleans: as a teenager he played in the band of his uncle Donald Harrison Jr., with which he made his Dutch live debut in 2003 at the BIMHUIS.

Some used to complain about Miles, why he didn't talk or why does he turn his back to the audience. Let Mr. Atunde Adjuah & Band be who they are, and do what they do.

Adorei Ouvir!

@@emmouroger7455 What @edge60able was trying to say, is that if you can't appreciate an artist's verbal content, then you don't truly appreciate them as a person and their music. As Christian says, this music is fundamentally about communication, he's talking in his music and he talks verbally too for the sake of getting to know him. Word is power.

As Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah makes clear at the start, he values being intentional about what is being communicated. It follows that most of the conveyance is via music, and it also bears some explanation in words. Personally, I understand and feel the music he leads more clearly and deeply by knowing the stories behind and intent of the music. And having heard him convey the stories and messages he offers--in words--I find them to be integral to the music which is also being offered. In the end, it's his/their creative expression, so if they got things to say, that's their prerogative. It's part of the legacy of the music. People listening can choose to take it or leave it. What I also appreciate is that he invites the audience to be free and say what they feel moved to say as well.

@@rumblepac6823 I agree well said. I have seen him play several times and always think he has a lot to say and that it adds to the music. I have met him twice, once after a concert in NY and once just randomly in New Orleans and he is the same offstage as on. Articulate, intelligent and personable.
