Great video I took my 2007 X3 to BMW Roseville $950 later not fixed and recommend a $2800 computer DME.My car is not worth it in this market.I was told by BMW how much do you love your car OMG! How about if you put the original ignition inside with the new ECU etc… would that have worked? Do you have a set up for a 2004 BMW 645ci, and if so what is it going to Cost me ? Last question is how do I take out the ignition cylinder of my 645ci. I tried turning the key one click forward, and placing a paper clip into the hole and it’s not coming out.

My 2006 BMW X5 turns over but won't start. It was not turning over at all before the last time. I figured to get it to start by Rolling the windows down and up fully all of them a couple times lock and unlocked it from the button on the middle console then get out and use the key in the door to unlock and lock a few times get in and it would start. I'm pretty sure it's the EWS module but my kicker is the last time I drove it when it didn't turn over etc at all and went thru all I just said, went to store turned it off and immediately tried to start it and it just turned over and when I let loose of the key, it was stuck trying to start. I had to manually turn the key back from start position. It was stuck trying to start. When I took the key out the metal part of the key was really hot!! Can you help me with this so I don't spend any more money I already bought a new Ignition the plastic module under the steering column. My gut feels it's between the key and the ignition. I think there's a short in the system in the stirring column but also the security system itself. I need some help please... Thanks in advance. Please PM me so I get an email. Jerry

I recently did this swap from 01 x5 e53 m62 donor to fix a intermittent no start no crank. This fixed the problem. THank you. Now we changed also the transfer case cause mine had chain problems and the tranny due to some problems in automatic mode. My question is do I have to swap the transmission computer as well or it wont make any difference?

I recently had my X5 diagnosed that required a new DME. I was told that my DME could not not be reprogrammed or fixed. The few companies saying they could did not make me feel comfortable .

That was fixed in the CAS3 that is why programming is needed. The rolling code will not be align

Hey bimmermerchant I'm stuck here, I'm working on a 2004 BMW x5. The car has no power at all, you turn the key on none of the light come on the dash nor does the engine turn. I've checked the power from the battery to the rear fuse box and there is power going there. When I check the fuse box in the passenger side there is no power going to it just ground. There is power going to the alternator, thank you .

I am fitting a v8 E39 into a E39 ^ cylindlinder body - both card were running, the v8 will not crank -have changed EWS and it has the V8 DME - havent changed the key yet - any suggestions why it is not cranking

Thanks for the video and wisdom, however I seem to be having a similar problem with my ignition not turning motor. 1st time it happened I worried something electrical was going on. Before anything, I decided to try valet key and to my surprise it work with out a flaw Thank God! Unfortunately it just happened again and I don't have anymore keys to test last scenario. I had just replaced fuel filter and was trying to get fuel system going when ignition stopped turning engine. Everything lights up with no other problematic symptoms. Please shed light on my situation ! Going to replace FOB Diamond key battery now.

I just purchased the same components and swapped them all over from the same car and now my 2002 X5 E53 4.4i cranks on and off but won't start...? Got any tips on what to do? I also swapped all the original stuff back in the car and still no start. EWS, DME, Ignition and key.

yes sir the main question alot of us have is , what vehicles can we interchange these systems of course the 740i 2000- 2002 also has the 4.4 engine but i dont think these combo switches are interchangeable. i have an auto dismantling yard in duarte california and we interchange 328i dme combos, 325i and 323i combos etc.. some of these are interchangable but not sure about the x5 . will a 330i interchange with and x3 or an x5 (3.0) ? i have doubts due to the AWD systems but not sure??

Can I swap a DME, Tumbler, EWS 2 (Matching downer). If my E38 has a EWS 3 system. It appears that the ports all match, know that ews 3 uses rolling code, but if i swap DME, Tumbler from a EWS 2 is there something that will stop ignition.

EWS holds VO / VIN / coding. DME software might be different EVEN if the same engine. You will never be able to get a key from the dealer if goes bad or lost. This is very stupid way of doing a simple DME swap. You should stop telling people these things.
