Hi, any chance you can re-edit this video to show more detail, and be less "jumpy"? The beat synced jumpy+quick cuts seem cool if you're a film editor, but they're a REAL pain in the arse if you're trying to follow the directions and get some kewl new kit installed in my car. Please, just hang on each section of work a LOT longer so I don't have to back up and pause 10 times on EVERY SINGLE STEP to see what's actually happening. I think you could use the same footage and just re-edit it to make this a TON easier to follow. If its totally mandatory to sync cuts to the beat, please double the length of each cut, visually its like I'm still figuring out wtf I'm looking at and then.... bam it cuts away. :-P

The screen images didn't look stable. Can you reassure that it performs like the factory installed Apple Carplay on 2018 and later i3 models?

If you're referring to the flickering/video chopping that can be seen in the video - that's just a thing caused by recording an LCD screen on video. With the naked eye it looks exactly like OEM quality image - no different than OEM CarPlay.

I just got and 2016 i3 REX and I still have some warrant left and i am very worried about canceling the warranty. Is the MMI warranty safe ?

Hi! Every warranty is different, and it can depend on your jurisdiction. However, in the US, Canada and many other countries, consumer protection legislation allows people to install third-party equipment in their vehicles without voiding their warranties, assuming the issue being fixed under warranty wasn't caused by the installation or use of third-party equipment. As you can see in this video, installation of our CarPlay MMI Prime is non-invasive and doesn't require making any permanent modifications to your vehicle. Just plug everything in to the existing sockets in your iDrive system. That also means the kit can be removed just as easily, without leaving any mark on your car.

Is there any downside to leaving the CarPlay box under the rear seat? I saw another video where someone did that and it worked fine.

For i3s there are no downsides. We place it there using special extended quadlocks cause the head unit is located under the back seat. We couldn't do it in a regular car though since we wouldn't have enough cables.

I live in the San Francisco area and I’m interested in this, but I don’t want to make it a DIY project for me. Are there any installers that your affiliated with or recommend? Also, I have the smaller 6” display in my 2017 i3, can it work with the smaller display or do I have to upgrade to the larger display?

Hi! Sure, we have a few authorized installers in the bay area. You can take a look at the map here: www.bimmer-tech.net/page-installers for their contact details. This kit works with smaller screen sizes, too, you'd just have fewer icons per page on the home screen than you see here.

What's the difference between the MMI and the EVO?

Hi Jeffrey. CarPlay MMI Prime is designed to connect to your existing iDrive system, so you can switch to it to use CarPlay (as well as Android Auto and the other media playing features the unit offers), then switch back to your standard iDrive whenever you want. CarPlay is also available with the NBT Evo iDrive system, but if you don't already have it, adding it would mean retrofitting a whole new iDrive system with all accompanying hardware, and getting it activated for your vehicle. There's a lot more work involved and a higher price tag than adding the CarPlay MMI. Hope this helps!

Guys I have CarPlay in my i3 but can’t find a way to switch back to the IDrive while driving. Am I missing something. I need to get back to IDrive to use Sirius or Rex and no way to do it?

Hello, you can always toggle between the MMI and the iDrive by pressing and holding the MENU button from your iDrive controller for 3s.

Hi! The audio connection between the CarPlay MMI unit and your vehicle is through your iDrive's AUX port. Audio connection between your phone and the CarPlay MMI is like the video connection, either wireless or through a USB connection.

The battery is installed in the frunk (under the hood) but there is no easy access to it. We advise leaving the battery connected instead.

Hi, you can swap back and forth between the OEM iDrive and CarPlay / Android Auto whenever you want, so all the OEM features are still there.

Installing CarPlay won’t void your warranty, but every country has its own local regulations. In the United States, for example, the Federal Trade Commission says you don’t have to have your BMW dealer do all your repairs or improvements in order to keep your warranty intact. You are able to use any independent repair shop of your choice and can even do repairs and upgrades yourself using OEM, aftermarket, or even recycled or rebuilt parts. The Office of Fair Trading introduced a code that basically means the same thing for the European market.

This method is terrible. why take all those trim out, just to run the same cable that was already there. Just unplug the display cable from the head unit on the back seat and call it a day.

Hello, actually it is our older video, and the cable that is plugged to the screen after disassembling everything is different. It just looks the same as the OEM one. It is not possible to use older cable to make it work with the MMI Prime :) Right now, the cable that goes to the screen is blue, to allow customers to distinguish them by their appearance.
