(Sorry about the drumming - haven't played them for nearly 9 months!) Recorded with Roland CS-10 binaural earphone mics - audio has not been processed.
Also, the drumheads are all at least 5 years old.. if anyone has any recommendations for new drum heads that would be great - although, I don't play regularly enough to really warrant new drumheads!

I bought the headphones based on your video. An awesome piece of equipment, well worth the price. It covers the whole sound spectrum from deepest bass to highest treble. It sounds mildly V-shaped but it's fairly easy to EQ. It is capable of capturing ridiculously loud sound levels. I was able to record a live metal music performance where my own ears were overloaded and distorting, my body was vibrating from the ridiculous pressure of the sub-woofer in the club, yet the microphone's output was surprisingly clean. It can also be plugged directly to any video camera which has a stereo microphone jack with plug-in power. It works perfectly with my Panasonic HC-V750. Although this particular camera has a minimum microphone volume setting which is too high for recording very loud stuff.

+Czech MGTOW hi I got the headphones too, but they say not to plug into your computer.. you said you used your video camera? Can I use my iPhone, computer or video camera to use the mic headphones? I'm searching the 'net for answers maybe you know :-)

Jenni Nexus This is what I've recorded with the camera (I had them in my ears): /watch?v=wmL1oEtFHkg Here is a gig I've recorded (I had them in my ears and used a pocket recorder Roland R-05) /watch?v=U_BBOD_yGl8 As far as I can tell, they work even with PC sound cards. I have recorded my voice (in stereo) by plugging their microphone jack to my laptop's (MSI GE60) microphone input. (I had them lying on the table in front of my face) /watch?v=5Q7Ft1EJEEs I haven't seen a mobile phone with a jack microphone input, though. Mobile headsets have a combined out/in jack instead of separate headphone and mic jacks.

+Czech MGTOW Oh OK thx for the insight. I think that I will indeed try them with my laptop because in FL Studio there's definitely stereo sound option.

Great! Glad I could help :) This wasnt the best showcase of my drumming, luckily this was just a demo for the mics ;) They are really good mics.. not only for stereo instrument recording, but ambient/foley sound etc.. If the source sounds good, then these pick it up really well with little colouration!They can be a bit bass heavy AND fizzy/hissy on kickdrums+cymbals but nothing some EQ cuts cant fix, which is much better than trying to boost something that isn't there! I'll check out your work!

no worries! If you get something like that, just check it has the right connections. just a stereo mini jack mic/line input, that supplies the right voltage for the mics (4-10v on the roland specs)

Thank you! The mics are connected to a Boss Mirco BR... portable guitar/audio recorder. The mic outputs connect straight to the stereo line/aux in (mini jack) and the recorder has an option for 'plug in power'.. low voltage phantom power. The mics are rated 2-10v so as long as your device can provide that power, the mics should work fine. The mics are very flattering and accurate, not alot needs to be done other than a low cut to get rid of any sub sonic rumble!

Thanks for the response. I've got a similar kit. Its a 22 kick with 10,12,13, power rack toms and a 16 floor tom. It comes with a matching 14x6.5 snare. Also stage white but mine are yellowing a bit more. Also pre-yess. I agree with you about the pinstripes. I think they choke these shells. Been saving up for clear ambassadors. first time to come across a kit without a 12, but the toms sound great. My missing piece of the puzzle is an 80's era stage white 8x8 RC tom. Awesome mic!

@msg563 Thanks! Yeah, the sizes are 8, 10, 13, 15, 16, 20(kick) and the snare is 14x8 (matches the rest of the kit). As I'm down in London at uni and play guitar/piano a lot more, I haven't had much chance to keep up with the drumming :( It is a really nice kit though and would probably sound even better with a full overhaul/all the heads replacing - was never impressed with the pinstripe heads.. could have been down to my tuning though!

@ssshyguy Thanks! Yeah it's all live - however the quality of recording is pretty much governed by what you are trying to record! Thy should pick up the sound in a similar way to how it is really heard, so the recording can only be as good as the original sound source :D I mounted the headphone/mics behind me on the shelves (not the best position really, was just out of convenience!) using a workbench clamp and some clothes pegs! The mics work great for 360 sound illusions - enjoy them! :)

@msg563 Yea, I dont think these pinstripes do my kit any justice :P I'm not sure what the reason is, behind the 13 and 15" toms.. I would have thought 12/14" would be more in keeping with the rest of the kit tbh. The mic is pretty amazing!.. Its a pair of in-ear binaural mic/earphones - they pic up everything pretty much exactly as it sounds - great for stereo/3d effect recording!

I use a Boss Micro BR recorder.. you'll need something that has a stereo mini jack line in, that can supply power to the mics (2 to 10v). For monitoring, it's a standard stereo mini jack. The split cable has enough length to reach the input and outputs on my recorder. Not sure what other portable recorders have, but mine is perfect as it has the mini jack line in and supplies about 5v of 'plugin' power I think. Hope that helps!

Ah! sorry,. yes. They were connected to my Boss Micro BR portable recorder. If you're trying to use them directly connected to your MB I'm not sure if it will work :( The mic output on the headphones (red plug) needs phantom power/additional voltage to work (the mics are condenser/electret.. so need external power). I don't think the mic/line input on MBs can do that :( sorry. I think the Rolands work best with a portable SD audio recorder.

Nothing else, just the Roland binaurals :) I think i might have put a tiny bit of Eq, just even out the low end.. not sure tbh.. actually I think this is just the raw sound from the 2 headphone mics

Toby, very nice demo. I really liked it. Thank you. For those confused by their listening results: Binaural mics require binaural capable playback for best results. The MUX into mp3 or mp4 does not give you that. Binaural is not 'like' stereo. When one has the binaural playback of a binaural recording it is as near a perfect 3-D rendering as one can to get. It is not a vague experience.

+Mona D Do you need the Roland recorder? Or can you record using the binaural mics with another recording device & what software can you use? :-)
@M0NAD33

+Jenni Nexus Use any recorder that offers at least two isolated tracks. So two isolated channels in and out for playback. Users must orient headphones correctly otherwise the effect becomes strange. Improper playback can make the entire experience unpleasant. This what you're going for: watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA I have a binaural recording of my wedding from many years ago. When I listen and close my eyes, I feel physically transported in time and space. It is totally convincing, more so than the KZfaq example I've provided. I think for many people, this kind of experience would be more disturbing than pleasant. Here's helpful info, mebbe: binaural dot com/SunBinArticle.html and theguardian dot com/education/2001/nov/01/highereducation.research

How did you feed the outputs of the Roland CS10EM earset, electrolytic condenser microphone outputs? Did you plug them into a part that has "phantom power" enabled, such as an energized input into a Digital Camera or Digital Stereo Recorder? I'd like to know and understand more about how you processed your video, Sir! I find the pickup quality to be absolutely amazing here! Thanks! More Info. please! :-)
@rastAsia
@rastAsia 11 жыл бұрын
So the CS-10EM's not in your ears but on separate sides of the shelves behind you? If it is, that explains the great audio capture. It acts as a baffle / gobo causing good separation to the L/R mic which is what is required to get good binaural recording apart from the human head. :) Each shelf now acts as large ears which feeds the separate L-R channel of CS-10EM. That low kick and tom frequency is so well picked up or even doubled, as standing waves needs bigger surface area than just ears. :)

I have MacBook Pro too. My novice thots: These mics are analoque, so they need to 1st go into an audio interface that converts the signal to USB. The Zoom Q2n video recorder I'll be getting should do that I hope!
