Hiya and welcome to part2 of the restoration of the Gulf War Scorpion CVRT.
Its coming together a bit slower than i had hoped but we are getting there slowly.

Wow! Just came across your channel from Mr Hewes channel. That Scorp is one of my old troop wagons. I am in the picture showing the wagon in the background. The picture was taken just after the radio message of a ceasefire. Kuwait 1991. I was 21 years old. I'm just behind my Troop Leader Captain Jeremy Denning ( front and centre in full desert cam). Just my fat head showing with the dodgy tash. 🤣

Ha that’s awesome. Thanks for commenting. I’m hoping to get her back and running this year and eventually on the road and get to a few shows. I have been in contact with a few of the crew who were on it on op Granby and keeping them up to date with its progress 👍

Interestingly Denning was on C/s 21 (04FD59)whereas this was c/s21a (03FD65)have all the crew lists and details of vehicles if they are of interest.

@@BenoCam cheers pal. If memory serves me. 21A was Dez Hawkins, Commander. Simmo Airey, gunner/ operator and Russ Myers, driver. 👍🏻 I was the gunner/ operator on c/s 23 with Arry Beaver my commander and Paul Rothwell the driver. The troop of 8 vehicles were split into two. I was in c/s 21 split with 21A, 23 and 23A. The other half was the Staff Sergeants (Les Critchlow) with 22 as commander vehicle . 22A, 24 and 24A. Thanks for keeping these beautiful military machines going. 👍🏻

I got my H licence on a Scorpion when we changed from Saracen to Sultan armoured cars. Seems a long time ago now.

In the 80's when I was a teenager I got a placement on a YOPs scheme at the Proof and Experimental Establishment at Gore Cross on Salisbury plain. I used to unpack the 76mm L23A1 Barrels and Breech blocks that came from the Royal Ordnance Factory, Nottingham and put them together and mount them on an 25 pdr carriage for proof firing, then clean and disassemble, re-pack them to be sent back. I used to really like doing it and knew the Barrel and Block assembly like the back of my hand, only one in ten Mantlets were proof fired. I may have had your gun in my hands.

Yo! Ben. Great update. Just recently found your channel... I live opposite your entrance and sometimes hear the other tank on it's way out 🙂. Fantastic! I grew up near to where you got them from and remember them sat there all those years. Cheers.

That was exciting for me. Great progress. The Scorpion is a nice option. A proper tank, but on a more manageable scale than an MBT.

Bought that cheap because it was getting water in the oil slowly over time. Was all totally original one owner from new. Turned out to be a cracked block so it wasn’t my best ever gamble but at least now it has a new engine 🙂

Have someone make some 3D printed dummy rounds. They can be painted and except for weight, will look pretty accurate.

I live just up the road from where you bought the CVRT, I've always wanted to strike some kind of deal to put some time into one of these and get one running and get some drive time. My wife won't let me buy one so I've got to find away around that rule.... I've got 2 classic tractors and a 70's bronco (you may have seen driving around, to get fixed up first anyway. Looking forward to following this!

The ones that are left are pretty grim, need a lot of work putting into them. I looked at one of the chieftan (there’s a vid on my channel) from outside but again it needs a lot of work ! The abbot I also bought from there which was a good project. Took 5 years to do though !

You should add the British flag sticker back to the front where the original sticker was as well as the designation number it had during the gulf war and any other markings it had in the pictures you have of it as a tribute to the crews who crewed it.

Great job on the bodywork. What is the coating on the reconditioned gear box and engine? Some kind of protective coating, or paint?

Cheers, it’s getting there ! That colour paint is just what the MOD use to paint them, duck egg blue ! I guess it identifies which bits they have refurbed themselves rather than other non MOD spec kit perhaps.
