I'read that Bing Crosby was a very complicated person, but he adored Dean and liked singing with him.

Too bad we couldn't enjoy more of her as she lived. Silly, absurd mores and traditions.

Um many of us enjoyed Lena Horne while she lived. She lived a very long life. She was 92 when she died in 2010. People enjoyed her while she sang, acted and danced throughout her illustrious career. I saw her Broadway show "Lena Horne, the lady and her music", when I was 19 years old. I am 53 now. It was my first trip to New York and my first and only time seeing Ms. Horne perform live. Class act all the way around. Few entertainers of today match those old classic stars such as Ms. Horne.

footprints2gigi You're so right, there's nothing like hearing an old song you thought you'd long forgotten to bring back memories of people and times long gone. I even saw a TV programme a while ago where they demonstrated how they use such 'music therapy' in old people's homes to help people suffering from Alzheimer's to partially regain their memories (at least temporarily while the music's playing)

***** Bing was a complex man as we saw with his difficulties with his children. If anything, Bing was an aloof human being. And he wasn't all that friendly with too many in Hollywood. They tried to make a big deal of his not having invited Louie Armstrong to his home. But then again not too many were invited to Bing's inner circle. So I don't think his being a conservative has much to do about anything. All my friends from junior high to high school through college are conservatives. So let's not equate conservative with racist.as many try to do.

@Charles Collier...I've subsequently come across something that proves my point about political affiliations: that we must be careful with labels. Yes, Der Bingle was a conservative. But that doesn't equate to his being a racist, which he obviously was not. Take a look for a quote I found in Wiki as relates to his friendship with Louie Armstrong, whom he never invited to his home. But so what? That's not proof of anything hateful. He was just a closed man. But take a look: "Also in 1936, Crosby exercised an option from Paramount to make a film out-of-house. Quickly signed to a one-picture agreement with Columbia, Crosby dreamt of having his icon and friend Louis Armstrong, an African-American, who largely influenced his singing style, in a screen adaptation of The Peacock Feather called Pennies from Heaven." Yes, Armstrong INFLUENCED his singing style. Doesn't sound like a racist to me.

Bing did a cover of Lena Horne ‘s song so he couldn’t have hated her that much. And with Sinatra , he took her to a club and when they wouldn’t let her in he wouldn’t go in without her. So maybe looking too much into it. They just look uncomfortable to me more than irritated . Bing didn’t seem like a super sexual or social type of person.

Part of it is because Lena and Dean have great chemistry. Bing doesn't have Dean's charm, in my opinion.

@@ruthresetar5940 I think it was a matter of Bing being odd-man-out, the third wheel here. Lena and Dean were born in 1917, and attractive. Bing was born in 1903, and looked every day of it. It seems like he's intruding here, doesn't belong. But that doesn't mean he felt negativity about anybody.

Great footage but Bing is the third wheel here. Body language speaks volumes. Little eye contact. I feel quite uncomfortable for him. Such a pity.

Bing Crosby seemed distanced and indifferent and downright unfriendly to Lena, and even Frank, on this show. A jerk.
