There will never be a bigger star than Bing! 41 No. 1 records (43 including the second and third chart-toppings of “White Christmas”) - more than The Beatles (24) and Elvis Presley (18). His recordings reached the charts 396 times, more than Frank Sinatra (209) and Elvis Presley (149) combined. He was the singer of 13 Oscar nominated songs, four of which won. His radio show was one of the most successful, airing 4000 times (1931-1962). He scored three best actor nominations winning once for Going My Way. He was the top box office actor for several years in the 1930s and 1940s, and in actual ticket sales is the number three leading man of all time behind Clark Gable and John Wayne. Bing Crosby was the first multimedia star of Vaudeville, Radio, Recording, and Film. In the 1950s, he became a most celebrated television star. His career that began in the 1920s and exploded in the early 1930s continued until his death in 1977. His career is one of the most interesting to explore.

I was noticing that distance between Bings mouth and the microphone. Sinatra placed the microphone closer to his mouth. I believe. And I’ve noticed that Karen Carpenter had it very close to her mouth, maybe almost touching.

There are 3 singers throughout history that moves me the most, and this is one of them. The other two being Elvis Presley and Jussi Björling. All 3 of them completely different singers, but all masters at their craft. When singing at the highest level is made to look as easy as simply breathing, then you know you're looking at a master. Just as Bing is doing here. He is truly missed.

And the sad part is that three years later, Bing Crosby departed this life....... Who could have known? At least from his point of view, he died doing something he loved - he was playing golf. One of Bing's favourite songs will forever remind me of that fateful day - "Straight Down The Middle" and that's where he was, on the fairway of a golf course in Spain, driving a shot, straight down the middle.

@@josephforest7605 You're quite right, and I have no idea what made me state three years, other than it was in the wee small hours when I left my comment. Technically, it was 1977 when he died, but it was toward the back-end of the year - October, to point of fact. If I recall, Bing was in England, filming for a show, or just finished filming, and had flown over to Spain for a short break, and a round of golf. In any case, it was probably "two and a bit" years between the time of this clip, and his sad demise. Ah well.......🤦

What he did for race relations is not mentioned enough . When he was the biggest star in America he would duet with Louis Armstrong when that type of thing just wasn't done. Not to mention his impact on the recording industry by using tape recorders. Incredible talent and probably my favourite entertainer of the 20th century.

I know Bing went and saw “Little Night Music” in theatres and would always mention it and the context of the song from the show before starting the song, so Collins may have help inspire Bing’s version, but probably not the primary inspiration, though I could be wrong
