I feel so bad for Yuhu, constantly having to look into things for the Emperor (like checking the stitching) and investigating the deaths of concubines, and royal heirs, all the while the Emperor is an incompetent fool. She really goes running around solving a lot of the harems problems, half of which are caused by the Emperor's inability to see evil and good right in front of his face. Yuhu has probably known the whole time what a catch Ruyi is (I mean look at the relief on her face when the stitching didn't match), but has to watch the Emperor go after gold diggers that just want him for his title and create problems in the harem. I hope Yuhu got to retire at some point, away from the palace, and lived a peaceful life with a happy death. That woman deserves it.

Zhou Xun’s acting as Empress is v dignified with an aura of class. Well done . The emperor acted well too and hence everyone dislikes him .)

This show should have been called Ruyi's Royal War in the Palace. She just wanted to love the emperor, his children, and her sisters. But some od her sisters are crazy af.

The background music for this drama is so beautiful, haunting. Gets me right in the feels. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. It suits this series perfectly and I love that the same music is used throughout every episode. Was there ever a soundtrack made? If no soundtrack, does anyone know who the music artists are so I can find it? I’m in the state of Tennessee, USA.

This is the reason he became quite agitated with her throughout most part of their live. Towards the end of her life, he ended up rebelling her on certain things he didn’t want to do and became quite an adulterer. Hence he regrets things that he couldn’t understand. Like when she said in a letter that she is “free.” Meaning she no longer tied to the trappings of royal life and felt like she can wonder on her own terms as a commoner within spirit. The actress that plays Ruyi definitely looks a bit like how most of us would think of her on one portrait that probably survived.

This Emperor stunk to high heaven in his narcistic insecurities. Ruyi has finally had enough; the look on her face said it all. She was worth so much more than what she was so stingily given by such a despot. He was NEVER a likeable character; his lust was never satiated and his greed was unattainable; all it did was make him want more.

I think Ruyi should have played the conversation to her side rather than making the emperor angry. I think at this point, the emperor is finding someone to vent out his anger and because Ruyi was hard headed- he eventually vented it out on LYC. Ruyi should have chose her battle, because she had people she cared for who will pay. I get at this point she hated the emperor so much already possibly because also of her jealousy with Rong, the flaw of her character is that she only wanted to preserve the love she has with the emperor while others are after her position and title. She never fought for her position and title already at this point which ultimately led to her downfall. She forget that her she was installed at her position because of his love for her so women who are after her position poisoned the emperor’s heart. Unlike modern wives nowadays, if their husbands find comfort in other women, they go for the gold instead😂😂😂

By far, this has been the best Chinese epoch I have watched. I can watch it over and over again. Its so much better than the dramas you see in C-Dramas. The actors here got under your skin in a good way and a bad way which is a great way to get me to watch it again and again!!!!!

What did Maoquin think was going to haopen? If she had succeeded in framing her husband as having an affair with the Empress those two would have certainly been executed, but did she think she'd walk away scot free with all the marital assets and whatever reward was dangled in front of her? Defiling the legitimate bloodline by participating in adultery with the legal wife, the Empress, sounds like a kind of treason and that was a crime that got your whole clan suppressed if not executed. Being divorced and sent to a remote village to live in poverty would be a better fate than should have happened if she had succeeded in her wickedness. I have seen clips indicating that Maoquin was a little too determined to impress the neighbors so obscure poverty far from the capitol is a fine punishment.

Ok, this emperor takes the 1st Place award for being the biggest disgusting narcissist in this drama. The actor is doing great because I can't stand the sight of him in this role. His character is SO disgusting I often fast forward through his torturous scenes. He was cruel, hateful, paranoid, and had an insatiable lust for women. He may have liked Ruyi the first few years of his Crown-Princehood, but when he got a taste of the kind of power he had, he indulged himself to the fullest, disregarding ANY and ALL that hindered or suggested he was wrong in any way. I loathe this character, a truly despicable stain of a human being.

I definitely don't like the emperor, but I also have a problem with guard Ling. Although he is a nice man he should not have allowed himself to stay infatuated with Ruyi. If he had controlled his feelings better they both would have been safer in that regard. He also didn't deserve what the emperor did to him. It's just too much going on. If life had been different, he and Ruyi's kind hearts would fit together better tho.

The emperor really made me upset, I could never understand how he couldn't see through the jealousy of his harem! He just said the concubine just got out of trouble, how did she find time to investigate a rumor about the empress. He never outright stood up for Ruyi, it always had to do with protocol or tribal relationships as to why he could never just shut the mouths of those against her. He had to know what was going on in all of the times she was accused.

These concubines are first class detectives. It seems like they only have bureau of punishment so if u don't have the ability to prove your innocence then you're good as dead😅
