*_The rules are rather simple:_* You get an arbitrary amount of points for being interesting or correct, conversely you lose 10 points for falling for their trick questions by giving answers that are both wrong *and* considered obvious enough for the "QI elves" to flash them on the big screens. If you give a wrong answer that is wrong but is interesting or funny enough then you don't lose points, you may even gain some.

@@Voltaic_Fire the rules are also completely arbitrary. After all, on both the regular and XL airing they end up with identical final scores. It's just an anchor to have people answering questions for. Not for a victory or defeat.

Re: average temperatures: during the height of the COVID pandemic locally, a facility a managed care facility a dear friend was living in had instituted an automated system to screen for people running a fever. My average temperature when I measure is usually in the range of 97.0 degrees Fahrenheit. The system was set up with an acceptable *deviation* of 1.5 degrees without regard to whether it was positive or negative from that 98.6 "average". So, it would flag me as out-of-bounds and not issue me an authorization to enter the residents' area of the facility. I joked with the staff about the too-low temperature trigger, and asked them if it was to prevent vampires from getting in and bothering the residents. (By the way, I learned to trick the system by rubbing the heel of my palm against my forehead a few times, since it was using an IR sensor to read that part of the face. Someone with a cold can of soda and a few functioning brain cells could have tricked their way in while feverish just by holding it to their forehead for a few seconds before entering. Not exactly going all out to protect residents and staff . . . except, presumably, from vampires).

I was amazed by the Hungarian answer - back in 1987, I was teaching population dynamics to 6th form students, and even then the Hungarian birthrate was below replacement levels.

Ben-Hur is also well-known for killing the most horses in a single movie. In fact, a lot of animal standards in Hollywood happened AFTER the atrocities in Ben-Hur.

@Caitlin, I am pleased to put your mind at rest about the horses that appeared in the 1959 version of Ben-Hur. I have yet to find any corroborating information to support the assertion that more horses were killed on that film than on any other film. In fact, I have found reliable information to the contrary. Snopes makes mention of problems on the set of the 1926 version of the film caused rumors to circulate in the press about the 1959 film starring Charlton Heston. Andrew Marton directed the chariot scene in the 1959 film and was exasperated with the press circulating rumors that were patently false. At a press conference, he snapped at reporters, "Twenty men and a hundred horses died while filming the race. That's what you want to hear, isn't it?" He wasn't saying that actually happened. He was telling the reporters off for continuing to circulate ridiculous, unfounded rumors to sell newspapers. Unfortunately, the press - being the sensation seekers that they are - printed that nonsense because it sold papers and people have accepted that lie as the truth for years and kept perpetuating the lie by saying, "it's well-known." There are a lot of falsehoods that are reported as truth (Catherine the Great having sex with a horse; George Washington had wooden dentures; Richard III was a hunchback; Albert Einstein failed math, etc.). Pololine reports that "...while some of the actors or extras suffered minor injuries while filming, it is worth noting that no horse was damaged in the shooting of the impressive scene..." Yakima Canutt was the horse trainer on the film. The article went on to say that "Canutt's safety methods are still used in movies that require horses." All of the horses used in the film had veterinarians, stable boys, trainers, and excellent care, but that doesn't sell newspapers or make for good TV coverage.

The US Army will still use a rectal thermometer for heat casualties (i.e. heat stroke) as it provides the fastest accurate temperature reading. Under the tongue is almost as accurate, but takes longer than a few seconds, which is less than ideal in life-threatening conditions.

I would assume sloths would be terrible at swimming, but apparently they are excellent at it. The chimpanzees not swimming is part of the reason that bonobos are different. Long ago, when their ancestors could cross the Congo, the rising river separated them leading to similar apes with different personalities.

There's incredible footage on KZfaq of a baby giraffe that's been chased into water by predators. I don't recommend looking for it unless you have a strong stomach... it's honestly one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen.

The beggining of the show was a promise it's back on its track of being a genious comedy at times. The rest was interresting.. I have again a lot of facts that will fill some space in my head.. Either way: I am fucking blaze. ❤️ .. you know that the whole atmosphere of the programme changed when David is funnier than Alan, btw. Sandi is a Temple of Warmth.. Good thing she rediced the hugs. ❤️

When it comes to the thermometer situation I believe it's exact. Yes, the thermometer is a few degrees higher however with a few degrees shy you get from your armpit logically would even out. Unless explained incorrectly on the show. 😉

i think you are mistaken in implying "all" skidmarks are the heating of asphalt. this could ONLY be true in two circumstances, if the pavement is indeed asphalt, or if the tire carried asphalt to the concrete(by osmosis?)(and if this were true it would be in proper vehicle maintenance to "clean the tires" often). i am sorry but "false news" said in a confident voice is STILL false news. this is like mythbusters contention that "tailgate up" is better on gas than "tailgate down", because of "trapped air" circulating under the tailgate.--- it is crap. "I" drove the same road for six hours in my truck about 100 times, and experimented with variables. windows up a/c on tailgate down mid-grade gas was best FOR MY 1992 GMC SONOMA! not two different trucks with two different drivers with different variables--- but they sounded confident so my lil brother is a dick to me now--- sandi please stop tearing brothers apart with confident lies!

I like a good XL Qi despite Nish, this is a better episode because of Mitchell. I owe my Youtey Online Life to David Mitchell, I created an account so I could watch Mitchell&Webb and discovered he had done other shows, Mock the Week, Would I Lie To You, Have I Got News For You, which opened the Universe of Brit Telly to me, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Pointless, House of Games, Sarah Millican's Television Programme, Taskmaster, The Box, ...

Any chance of dumping the pro-life ads I am bombarded with while trying to simply watch a video? Talk about first-world issues - pregnant university students, struggling to get by. SPOC? Saving lives? More like adding to the burgeoning over-population of the planet. Neither do I care about creating my own ebook. The ads are boring, non-informative and interrupt my viewing, nor do I want to go to South Korea; I've been there and was bored shitl*ss.

What HAVE you been looking at. Ads tend to reflect the stuff you have already looked at. It's extremely rare I get any religious ad. You might be able to complain to YT and have particular ads not shown to you.
