Jenna Hunterson is excels in many arenas: making pies, coming up with sentence-long names for said pies, customer service, and wrangling her downright horrible husband. But mostly pies. Follow along this week as we recreate three of her superlative sweets, and support the foundation established in memory of the film's writer, director, and co-star.

Fun fact, I was in waitress. I was one of the babies seen right before Jenna and lulu go home at the end. I was only in it because my parents were friends with the late director of the film, Adrienne Shelly.

I paused to read about the actress. Murdered by being hanged. Her husband's protests got her murderer caught. The murderer left a two year old girl to grow up without her mother. Good on you for putting the link to the Foundation in your description, and very generous to donate to it.

It’s phenomenal, and it’s only closing Jan 5, 2020 due to financial trouble that occurred in the summer of 2018. It’s my personal favorite Broadway show out of the eight I’ve seen so far,(Hamilton, Be More Chill, Mean Girls, The Lion King, Wicked, Oklahoma!, Waitress, and Dear Evan Hansen) a ranking that is not to be confused with the best Broadway show I’ve ever seen, Hamilton. It will be playing in Philly next year, but not for long. Do yourself a favor and see this show!

It's so unfortunate that shows get awards by year instead of by worthiness. How many years has an undeserving show gotten an academy award because it was in a drab year? How many times has a show like Waitress been cheated out because there were so many good shows, too? I wish the academy could just choose shows based on how good they are.

The only thing I did wrong was putting in 12 ounces of chocolate for the filing instead of 9 and the pan was weirdly wet with something from it (no idea what but this was my first time and first time isn't the best) but should be fine...hopefully. In case someone needs metric measurements for the cheesecake: 101g crackers 66g brown sugar 71g AP flour Pinch of salt 100g butter 1134g cream cheese 156g + 141g sugar 1 tsp salt (~5g) 77g sour cream juice of 1/2 lemon 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 large egg yolks + 6 whole eggs Brandy + pecans for topping This recipe is quite sweet (as usual for US recipes). If you're from europe 225g sugar for the cream is probably enough. Depending on the fat content of your butter the base might also be a bit oily. I read that US butter has less fat than for example french butter. Mine had 82.3% fat content and next time I'll try to use only 80g. Also keep in mind that this is a recipe for a 9 inch spring form. If your spring form is bigger or smaller you have to convert with the factor of the areas - not the diameter. For a 24cm spring form that is about 10% more of each ingredient.

I worked with Adrienne Shelly’s niece for a couple years! Didn’t even know until about a month before she left the company. Roz and Daphne are both hot, and Frasier never went downhill it just ... fell victim to the same old storytelling machine as everything else - it had to end somewhere. To this day the scene where Niles nonchalantly places his damaged flour sack on the living room table and then poofs of flour fly out of every unsealed puncture wound as he gives it a couple of pats makes me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. That dream about kidnappers stealing his “child” and then sending him muffins in the mail - I will never tire of it. David Hyde-Pierce’s delivery was consistently top notch on that show. I also can only talk about Frasier. I’ve learned to accept it.

I feel so bad for the Adrienne Shelly family. I never heard of Adrienne Shelly when I looked her up and read about her I feel nothing but sympathy for her family. To think the only thing she did was ask for the noise to be turned down and was killed because some stupid fool could not control his temper. It's sad. I am sure had she been alive today she would have had a promising cereer.

Trin vas Qwib Qwib (You may legally and freely use these comments how you see fit Mr. Babish) The secret to cooking good food... playing by sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. The kitchen is like a chemistry lab, all your senses must be engaged in the process for a successful dish. Follow a recipie as closely as possible a few times until you get what it is SUPPOSED to look, taste, smell, sound, and feel like. Then take a little liberty here and there and branch from that recipie in small batches to find new ideas and different ways of doing things. Sometimes, if you ar not working with a recipie, you need to freehand stuff. Think about the taste, texture, and smell of what you are trying to make. Imagine it, picture it as a 3 dimensional design in your head. Look at it mentally from every angle and look at what ingredients you want in it. Then, add ingredients a little at a time until you get a "pre-cook" taste, smell, and texture. If it has raw meat in it, you will have to rely more on temperature, texture, and smell than taste. Taste each ingredient (seasonings, spices, and such) seperately and then mix your seasonings and spices together first. Dry in one dish, wet in another. Taste each and then mix the 2 together. Taste test and see what you came up with. Adjust and experiment as needed. Just be careful not to cross-contaminate anything with raw meat juices from anything. Take your dry ingedients, like flour and corn meal and baking soda and stuff like and mix them together and see what each ingredient tastes like seperately and then together. Do the same with wet stuff... again being careful not to cross-contaminate with raw meat juices and animal matter. The key here is tasting EACH ingredient SEPERATELY before you cook it to see what it tastes like. Now... take each ingredient, a little at a time, and lightly toast a little of each of your dry ingredients and taste what they taste like lightly dry roasted. Then let a little get toasted until it is just before it burns. Taste that. This way you will know if something tastes better raw, lightly roasted, or heavily roasted. Sometimes this is called "blackened", as in it is juuuuust before it burns and turns bitter. It is still good, but in a different sort of way now. BLACKENED IS NOT BURNT. It is a legitimate cooking style that came out of the South, where in someone's Momma somewhere (and yes Momma down here is a proper noun as we respect our parents... or we loose our ability to taste from getting backhanded so hard :-P ) ALLLmost lost dinner from almost burning it, served it, and it was actually GOOD because the seasoning had been roasted to the point juuuust before burning. It is an extremely challenging technique to even remotely get right and is NOT for the beginner trying to serve dinner. Experimentation with it is REQUIRED to get it right before it is recommended serving anything "blackened" as until you find that sweet spot in your cokware and your stove and oven and the temperature and oils and spices and all the other factors, it is VERY easy to drop right into the charcoal range that is juuuust over blackened. Also some spices and herbs do NOT lend well to blackened as they char and burn far too easily. Now for the dry burn a little and taste what that tastes and smells like. It will not be pleasent, but your mond and body needs to know the good AND the bad. You need to be able to recognize the food by the smell and instantly recognize when you are singing or charring something so you can get it out/off of the heat. Now do the same as you did for the dry ingredients, for the wet ones. Simmer a little, let it cool and taste it. Boil a little and taste. Burn a little and taste. Again, not pleasent, but you need to know and recognize bad AND good. Now... ... get a GOOD set of pots and pans. Calphalon is a good brand. Expensive, but well worth it. Royal Prestige is a great brand also. I have a set of those and I LOVE them. DO NOT get the financing plan through the Royal Prestige financing company... they are a foreign scam financing company that charges between 18 and 27% interest. Save up or buy one piece at a time. DO NOT FINANCE COOKWARE... learn from my mistakes and stupidity. A good set of knives... look on here on KZfaq and see what professional cooks use for knives. There are only 5 or 6 knives you really need in the average kitchen and believe it or not, even Wal-Mart does have some decent kitchenware... but get the basic main knives from GOOD brands. You'll know a good knife by the feel. If it feels good in your hand, is made from good steel, has a FULL TANG (extremely important feature) which is essential for a good knife then you will know it is good. The important thing is the knife should be good quality and FEEL COMFORTABLE in your hand. An uncomfy knife is a dangerous knife. Just asdull knife is a dangerous knife. Learn to SHARPEN your blades. Do not send them off to be sharpened, as most "sharpening services" are overpriced crap that will damage your knives beyond repair. Dropped and cracked blades are common. Full tang does not have to be an exposed tang, just so long as it runs the entire length of the handle and is not a cheap welded on bar tang you are fine. Bar tang is fine... flat tang is best, even rat-tail tang is great... so long as it is ONE PIECE and not welded on AFTER the blade was stamped or forged. Stamped knoves can be ok, if they are made from good steel billet, but forged blade knives will ALWAYS be superior.

Ask around on FaceBook and such to find your local forge/blacksmithing group. Many of those groups will be part of your state's Forge Group Council, meaning they will be a club of blacksmiths that is well regulated and pay dues to be members of the club, and therefore are required to follow the club by-laws when selling any product for profit or barter to maintain membership. Violation of club rules can and often will get them permanently black-listed/banned from the blacksmith's community nation-wide and often results in the disreputable one's shoddy workmanship disappearing from existence as the blaggards go out of business. We hate nothing more than a charlatan saying they are a master blacksmith... only to find out they are taking shoddy or even dangerous corner-cuts to try and cheat their customers for more profit with less work. The local blacksmiths can usually find or know someone in their guild or another local guild who can craft you a set of knives that will last, with proper care, for the next 500 years at least. Lastly... buy... cast... iron. Get a couple of the essentials. A griddle if you do not have one, and a 12 inch skillet. The sikillet is the bare minimum you need, but I like a griddle sometimes too. Lodge is one of THE best brands on the market and has been for over 100 years. The griddle, if you get one... get a FLAT griddle, not one with a bunch of silly ridges or a goofy oil drain or flat handles that stick out and make it not fit on your stove top, or a reversible side o some other such nonsense. Plain, flat, one sided, has an ridge around the outside edge to catch oil but not an "oil groove" or "oil drain" to make oil drain away from tne food. The oils are part of what keeps it from sticking, so SOME on the cook surface is NECESSARY. Once you have your skillet and/or griddle (get the skillet first, it is extremely versatile) season it/them. The factory seasoning is ok, but it will only last a short time. Every time you use the pan you CAN wash cast iron, with mild soap and HOT water, and it is in fact necessarh if cooking foods high in acids like tomatoes. Yes you can cook tomatoesnin cast iron, it is just not recommended as it can eat through the seasoning and into the metal of the pan. Acid becomes more acidic as it gets warmer, as it reacts with what it is touching more readily at higher temperatures (see, a kitchen IS a chemistry lab :-) ). So if you must cook high acidity foods, I recommend using stainless steel cookware and leave the cast iron for stuff like searing meats and such. Once done cooking with cast, allow to cool either completely or at least to room temperature. Not only does this keep it from cracking from cool or xold water, but keeps you from going to the emergency room due to seared hands. Again, you may wash, but do so with mild soap and HOT water. Once rinsed of ALL soap, towel dry with a paper towel or super absorbent towel and IMMEDIATELY coat with lard or a thin layer of oil. If you do not have time to season right that moment, lard is best as it will stay on the pan more readily than oil. Store in a cool dry place until you can season. If seasoning right then and there, a LIGHT thin layer of oil or grease (flaxseed oil seems to be best from what I have read and watched online) and bake it in. Look up a tutorial on properprocedure, but 3 layers of thin oil will build up and give the best results. DO NOT USE SPRAY ON COOKING OIL. It has lecithin and a HOST of contaminates that will permanently ruin your cast iron as it will permanentlh coat it in an EXREMELY toxic plastic. When you cook with that stuff, you get a low dosage of the stuff in it so the FDA (corrupt as they are) has deemed it as non-toxic. Non-toxic does not mean it is good for you, it just means it won't outright poison you from a single dose. Crayons and Elmer's School Glue are non-toxic... does not mean it is edible. But when you bake that spray garbage into your cast-iron pan, you are literally burning it to carbon and plastic. This chemically converts it to a plasticized chemical that is 3 times more deadly than teflon. And yes... teflon flakes in your food are poisonous. ... and it NEVER comes off of cast. It literally takes hours or even days with and angle grinder to get thag crud off, and your pan is forever ruined as once you grind it down, it will never hold seasoning again as you have ground the pores that hold said seasoning flat and smooth. Learn from my stupidity.

The chocolate-strawberry pie looks rich and super sweet. I have to b careful with pies because I eat half of one or more, I just love them.

When you brought up the foundation that supports women filmmakers I got teary eyed. I'm a videographer, and growing up filmmaking has always had a "boy's club" element to it. When there are men filmmakers that understand this and support ending it, it means the world. Thank you :)

I just watched that movie again the other day , it’s such a cute movie. Always wanted to try one of her pies, so this is so awesome. I didn’t know the filmmaker/ actress died like that, so sad, very nice of you to do that for her foundation. So so sad how she died, way too young . She was beautiful!

This movie has been my favorite since my mom rented it back in 2009 from Blockbuster. I watched it soon after I learned my parent's were getting a divorce and this movie just gave me a little escape from reality back then. It's SUCH a good movie and the musical is fantastic as well. Thank you Babish for a great episode
