One of the darkest parts of One Piece is Brook’s humor. He developed a sense of humor that could work anytime, because it’s making fun of himself, to entertain himself during the 50 years he was alone. It’s a habit that formed out of loneliness

The fact that he had to live with the corpses for fifty years adds to his character as a whole. His whole crew died but he kept on smiling

Brook's backstory was the only one that just made me sad. The other ones were turned into mini or full arcs and made me feel a range of emotions. This was just depressing.

When he then goes and says to Luffy that he's glad to be alive is such a heartwarming moment, almost at the same level of Robin's.

The thing that really makes this a tearjerker is the fact that’s it’s as beautiful as it is sad. They died laughing, singing, and being with their friends, but knowing that brook has to take on the burden of being both the last to die and the only survivor is just heartbreaking

Nami, Chopper, and Robin’s backstories made me shed a tear, but Brook’s absolutely broke me

In Spanish this part when Brook is counting to the Solo broke my heart "Solo" in Spanish at the same time mean "Alone" so... At the end...I feel he was saying "I'm alone."

personally, after watching tens of anime’s, i find brooks backstory the most touching and heart breaking. something about how brook is so pure and kind at heart and endured all the hardships he’s been handed (considerably some of the worst possibly for someone who valued his crew) and still maintained his sanity and joyful demeanour. seeing them all sing together once more made me happy, then seeing them start dropping you realise the situation again but you still remember they’re going out in a way that they wanted. then hearing brook count done the musical groups until it’s solo, while tears flow down his face... honestly made me cry a river. it hurt me to think about how such kind hearted crews would face such cruel fates. then dreaming about their good memories together only to wake up painfully alone, feeling like a reminiscence of someone he used to be. brook became my one of my favourite character story wise after that scene. it was just really touching and well done im happy hes content with having dear friends again, that he wont have to deal with that solitude again.

I just got my girlfriend into One Piece (evil i know) and we just finished reverse mountain and the encounter with Laboon and are heading to whiskey peak tomorrow. It took all my self control to not spill the beans about Brook because i knew it would be so much better if she didn't know it was coming. But God there is so much between now and then, I'm just thankful that she's loving One Piece so far and can't wait to see how she likes Alabasta

Am I the only one who thought it was heartwarming seeing cello guy still smiling after death, he wasn't afraid he was just happy to be with friends playing one last song.

This is one of my favorite one piece scenes of all time. It’s so horribly sad, but there’s so much raw emotion, like a mix of happiness and sadness.

As tragic as this was, you can't help but respect how rather than wallow in despair and die miserably, they went out with dignity doing what they love most

I still think this is one of the most messed up and heartwarming scenes in One Piece at the same time. It's just so tragic seeing his entire crew die one at a time but still really happy because they all know they're going to die and choose to go out doing something they always loved. Thriller Bark was my favorite arc of the show still purely because of Brook's backstory

This song just served as the soundtrack to one of the most perfect send offs to a dnd character I've had. Bless Oda for writing such an emotional and amazing story and bless Kohei Tanaka for writing this masterpiece of a song.

Brooks story is the saddest one to me. I too am a musician who has ended up alone. Often feel dead inside but I live through it all. Regardless of how tough it may be, I am glad to be alive.

Fun fact:Brook died 50 years before the events of the anime and Roger died 20 years before the events of the anime meaning that Brook only knew that Roger died when he entered to Luffy’s crew

This is one of the most saddest moments in one piece some people say there are more sad moments in other anime’s but this just broke my heart to even see it’s sad that he had to watch his whole crew die but he still lived on that ship for so long he heard instruments playing behind him fall and he said “it’s a solo” sad as hell 10/10

It's sad. They knew they were going to die and weren't going to be able to say goodbye laboon. But they spent their final moments giving not only brook a final goodbye but for laboon as well.

This is one of the scenes I'm most excited to see in the live action remake, and also the one I worry about the most. It's easy to make comedy with a bouncy rubber man, or badass action with a badass samurai, but it's a lot harder to do emotional scenes, when you just got done writing something super silly

When I started watching one piece, it grew on me so quickly and honstely every episode is a joy or treat. But these episodes discussing Brooks back story, I can't lie it got me good. To bear all that for 50 years and still be so optimistic and joyful... Brook has become my favorite character so far. I can't stop tearing up when I hear this song now lol.

Imagine you in Brook's situation, having friends that are considered brothers who traveled with you in adventures for years, and then watching them die slowly and becoming corpses/skeletons... At first I was crying because his crewmates died. But then you realize that he died too... he watched everybody die and went right after...😥 He didn't even know if he was gonna resurrect or not. And even if he did, he wouldnt know how long. Imagine. You watch your family die 1 by 1 knowing your next... to die at all is pretty scary. That's prolly why he so courageous. This backstory broke my heart. The thought of watching as all my friends die one by one and being the last one to croak only to come back to life and be stuck on a ship with all my dead buddies for 50 years is beyond sad. Out of all the Straw Hats, Brook suffered the most crippling loneliness and has arguably one of the saddest backstories.
