In this video, you will learn how to produce biochar from date palm fronds waste in the lab pyrolysis process.
Pyrolysis conditions: Temperature (500 C, 1h and 10 C/min)
Biochar is a carbon-rich product and can be used for soil conditioner, water and air purification and construction applications

sir, why are there holes in the tube? Also how can we ensure that the atmosphere is oxygen limited? Also can I use crucible bowl without any lid?

To have burning in unlimited air

The combustion creates fumes/gases. The holes allow these gases to go out and be inhaled by the lab-oven.

We use fume hood for flushing out gases from the oven, don't burn it in the open lab

Sir once I have attempted to produce biochar with some kind of leaves. but the result was white powder. I dont know where it went wrong

They probably got burned with oxygen, that creates ashes instead of biochar.

Sir in biochar making more ash content will produced that is biochar or not pls suggest me
@materialsandtechnology8956

You can prepare hydrochar as it has lower ash content as compared to biochar

@golaganitriveni1660 dear you need a stainless tube with some perforation or holes for making biochar , other parameters like burning or pyrolysis time and temperature depends upon your objective

Sir, you said it takes 50 minutes to reach 500 degree and the furnace was kept in furnace for 1 hour under 500 degree. so the sample was kept in the furnace for a total 50+60=110 minutes?

I used charcoal powder (below 500micrometer) as an adsorbent to remove colour. It is removing colour but the solution becomes turbid or a bit cloudy because the charcoal mixed with the solution even after using whatman no 1 filter paper. Do I need to change the filter paper to whatman GF/B type? That's my question.

You should wash the powder very well with deionized water and then wash wash with acetone . You can use vacuum filtration using cellulose acetate or centrifuge it

sir may i know about stainless steel properties that you used.and i need to know why there is hole in tube?
@materialsandtechnology8956
@materialsandtechnology8956 Жыл бұрын
The tubes are made of stainless steel so as to avoid contamination and holes are provided for burning in partial air or o2. Also it is burnt in limited air supply not in nitrogen or argon gas

Are anoxic conditions possible in this furnace to ensure pyrolysis?
@materialsandtechnology8956
@materialsandtechnology8956 Жыл бұрын
Not possible, for this we need to use tubular furnace. However, this furnace can be modified to provide inert conditions
