The A prayer song is like raw art because it’s the epitome of how life really is never seen vulnerability like that in a Christian song.

And it sucks a Christian store refused to sell any of their stuff because of that song. Even though A Prayer, one of KK's best songs, doesn't bother me, it's one thing to not sell that song in your store, but to not sell ANY of their other songs that have no explicit words over one song, that's just wrong.

i appreciate this conversation and found it thought provoking. It touches aspects of my faith walk that I have been wrestling with. I didn't surrender my life to Jesus until I was 30, and since growing in the love of Christ and Biblical understanding, I have been trying to understand what it means to be in the world but not of it - what it means to be holy as He is Holy. When i got saved, one of the very first things the Holy Spirit put His fingers on in my life was what kind of things was i feeding my soul - namely music. I threw away literally thousands of dollars of music. Some was blatantly and overtly anti-christian and some was just focused on worldly things. This was a conviction God gave to me and I seek not to place my personal convictions on others, but at the time, I was raising a teenager and felt strongly that having my home belong to God meant that we honor Him with what we watch and listen to. I forbid him to listen to music like Kanye West out loud and if he felt like that was something he wanted to listen to, to listen on his headphones so i didn't have to hear it ( despite my desire for him to listen to things that glorified God). I have since become a youth leader in my church and I am ministering to kids who have been raised in the church, and without exception, listen to secular music and surround themselves with non-believing friends who are not being influenced to follow Christ from the church kids. They have not experienced the pain and destruction that I have by living a life in conflict to God and His righteousness and I so greatly desire to see them (and my son who is now 20 and rejecting God in word and deed to his and my detriment), on fire for Jesus. I want my kids to understand that sin pinned a Holy God to the cross to take the punishment we deserve. If music overtly promotes sin, then we are actively participating in an " artform " that caused Jesus to be scourged and nailed to the cross. Should we who died to sin continue in it that grace may abound - certainly not. I absolutely love Kings Kaleidscope's music that honors and points to God because it focuses on Heaven where there will be no more sin. We will sing praises like Mia coppa and defender to our savior forever, but I doubt we will sing Kanye West songs. God is merciful and forgives our sin, but shouldn't we cast off the unfruitful works of darkness that hinders our closesness to God? I hope for thoughtful replies as I truly want to know how to minister to others in a loving and non-legalistic way.

Until Kanye West made the album Jesus is King. I appreciate your testimony bro. We can't put God in a box of our own perspective. You never know what lessons others are learning while appearing to not be walking with The Lord. Grace and mercy bro! Blessings

Kanye’s art doesn’t glorify God, unless it’s actually godly. His new song, “I Love It” isn’t something that glorifies God.
