Today we're experimenting with violet dye to create new purple Bionicle masks and characters! The brand used is iDye Poly, which is especially designed to work on plastic. See the results for yourself! #bionicle #lego #experiment

Fun fact: Toa of Gravity typically have purple and black armor colorations
@KingOfSciliy8 ай бұрын
And since the Maori word for Gravity is "tōāpapa", you could call it Toa Pahpa. Unless you want to use the "Ba-" prefix, then it could be "Bapa", maybe?

if Voriki were canon, it'd be pretty easy to retcon him into a Toa of Gravity. perhaps his original tool channeled his powers in a way very similar to electricity, and he gets a new tool (along with a new body) that better exemplifies his real powers?

The light gray limb pieces look kind of like Sand Purple. If you've got a piece in that color, they might be worth comparing to that. I actually prefer the dull purple limbs for Kopaka, and maybe you can use the black shields for the purple Bohrok! Very nice results for the pieces that worked.
@freddoesvox90339 ай бұрын
The colour of the shields wasn’t the problem, its the type of plastic used. He does mention that.

I think you are supposed to dip into the dye and then take the piece out and dip into a bowl of water. Repeating the process until you get the color you want. As for the soft weapons, I remember seeing a method for making paint stick by lightly torching the plastic pieces. That way the surface can accept the paint without chipping off. Of course it's risky. PS: It would be interesting to see how Nokama Metru mask will turn out if you dye it like this. I think the darkening will really make it match the rest of her body.
@Bionickpunk6 ай бұрын
I would very much like to know if this method works on the softer plastic, most armor parts and masks after 2003 went for the softer plastic. Im surprised nobody dyed socket pieces, since they are the same hard plastic as those Mata limbs.
@ryanstephenson73125 ай бұрын
The soft plastic would probably be best to be painted. It would probably work because it's not ball joints, it's just axles and you're not going to see those anyways because they'll be in hands

The Rahkshi parts you tried dying were likely all Pearl White parts - which, as an aside, is a colour exclusive to Bionicle as whole. The only color in which they are all found as non-Pearl is Dark/Metru Green; the Rahkshi head from Rahaga Iruni, the Rahkshi feet from Toa Kongu Mahri, and the Rahkshi back from the Lego Vikings set 7018 “Viking Ship challenges the Midgard Serpent”. Incidently, this means the only other fully buildable Rahkshi is a Dark/Metru Green Rahkshi.

Posca has some matching paints as well. They don’t change the plastic color, but you might want to paint over failed experiments or different plastics like the the Bohrok weapons. I have also used spraypaint / graffiti and those look great as well. The chromes are less shiny then original chrome pieces sadly, but if you paint everything on one build the same it’ll still look good and cohesive
@brickthumb9 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely gonna have to look into paints to get some of the soft plastic bits covered. Posca, eh? Thanks for the tip :)

Even before it appeared in the hand sockets and 7M wings as part of the "Electro/Energy" Slizer (8507), the aforementioned shade of purple known as "bright violet" first appeared in sets from the "Competition" subtheme of Technic in 1998, and many of the first parts which came in that color were exclusive to that theme itself. The Slizer limb in this color first appeared in the "Spark" Slizer (8522) in 2000, which was also its only appearance overall. In addition to appearing in Onepu (1389) and the Nui Jaga (8548), this color began appearing more regularly in system parts during 2001, in a set from the "Life on Mars" theme (7317), and in four early sets from the Harry Potter theme (4702, 4709, 4722 and 4723). Most of the time after this, this color appeared almost exclusively in "Belville" sets, though some parts in it continued to appear in education kits until the color was phased out completely in 2010. Largely being replaced by the color of "medium lilac"-a color which is celebrating 20 years in use this year. The shade of transparent purple used in the Bohrok eyes, first appeared in a Harry Potter set (4721), and the eyes themselves in that color made their only appearance in a set (3808) from the "Spybotics" theme in 2002.
