The nether portal glitch is pretty common. It happens because the block on top of which you went through is not the same in the overworld. It happened to me constantly in a survival world. Its quite annoying to fix.

fun fact: dripstone wont damage you if its on the ceiling, here is why: They can generate on the floors and ceilings of dripstone caves, and come in two variants: stalactites and stalagmites. Stalactites generate on the cave ceiling, and can fall from the ceiling and deal damage to mobs it falls on top of. Stalagmites generate on the cave floor, and will deal damage to any players or mobs that fall on top of them. if to be short, there are 2 types of dripstone: stalactites, an stalagmites, stalactites generate on ceiling, and ONLY when falling on a player, deals damage.

3:45 Bionic, it depends which side the eye of ender is facing. If it was facing LEFT, it would ignite the LEFT. If it was facing RIGHT, then it would ignite the RIGHT side.
