VIDEO DESCRIPTION
The LOOP aquarium is a brand new design recently released from biOrb. It is currently available in 15 litre and 30 litre sizes and in either black or white gloss finish. But, you may need to shop around to get the one you want and at a good price!
The basic sales pitch, from retail suppliers (THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS!), is:
- Unique innovative ellipsoidal design
- Made of highly-resistant, clear and light acrylic
- Includes aquarium, light unit, air pump, transformer, air stone, filter cartridge & media
- Safe 12 Volt technology
- Option to have standard LED lighting or Multi Coloured Remote controlled LED lighting with auto sunrise, daylight, sunset and moonlight function
"The BiOrb LOOP Aquarium provides a deceptively spacious looking aquarium on a small footprint. Its unique oval shape makes it ideal for a small space where you wouldn't normally be able to enjoy an aquarium. Its design provides an uninterrupted viewing experience."
My view on this tank's distortion:
It's always very difficult to describe this! The LOOP does suffer from distortion, but all biOrbs (in fact any aquarium with a design that includes curved glass does!). The biOrb distortion varies according to each of their designs. Each is fairly unique, but not necessarily unpleasant! The LOOP distortion is seen more when viewing the tank directly from end-on (i.e. when looking down through the aquarium when viewed directly from the side). I'm not sure this would be a common view of this aquarium though... it depends on where it is placed. To be clear, it isn't a horrible distortion at all, but it does magnify the inside of the aquarium when looked from a particular angle. Overall, I would say that most front views into the aquarium are reasonably free from obvious distortion and any distortion is perhaps better than that offered by the biOrb Flow, Tube etc.
Thanks for watching!

Yes, Betzie, totally agree with you! The small aperture lid is a pain on biOrbs. The ability to remove the lid, like on the TUBE biOrbs, is a great idea and I'm not sure why the same approach can't be applied to some of the other models. But, I guess, "design" takes priority, before practicability, in the biOrb company world! Best wishes, Mark

Thanks Sarah. I'll cover the decorating in the next video... watch this space! So, this is my fifth (ignoring another one I have in the garden that is basically a "wildlife tank" with water beetles, snails and other things, but no fish), but I am going to replace (decommission!) one of my duplicate tanks (I have two white 30l Flows) with this one so that I am still maintaining the four tanks. I have an elderly neighbour who has long wanted an aquarium so I'm going to let her have that one, set it up for her and add some fish. Best wishes, Mark

That's great Denise. xx. Yes, always add bacterial product at the same time as adding fish and then keep adding it. If you plan to get your fish numbers back up (from what you have), you basically need to follow the same process... add fish and also add the bacterial product... then keep adding bacterial product each day until the tank is cycled.

@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb Жыл бұрын
Hi Goncalo. Nice to hear from you. Yes, the trend with biOrb is normally to also produce a 45l and or 60l. They released the 15l LOOP initially and then the 30l came out later. so, perhaps the same with any further sizes. The only problem with a larger size of this model (due to the length of the tank) would be the ability to clean the extremes of the tank from the small lid opening. It would be good if biOrb designed this model so that the whole upper lid could be taken off to aid cleaning and adding decorations etc. Best wishes for Xmas and the New Year.

Love your videos. I am a new subscriber and a new Biorb owner. Question- if you go through a treatment cycle (ie Bettafix), do you suggest a full water change in the Biorb?
@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb Жыл бұрын
Hi Gina. Thanks for watching and for giving your support to my Channel. Much appreciated. If using bettafix, and after completing the treatment, I would suggest removing and replacing the majority of the tanks water with fresh. I assume he is the only fish in the tank? If so, place him in a bag with some existing tank water whilst you do this. It would be best to go through the normal method of acclimatisation to introduce him back into the tank (30 mins would probably be fine). Hope that helps. Best wishes, Mark

Hi. I have occasionally heard from people who have had this. I've had it myself perhaps once or twice. It can often happen with new fish especially during the first couple of days of adding. It's the first time i've heard of so many doing this in a single tank though and over this time period! What species of fish do you have and what size are they? Fish may often try to get down into the media to get food. Do you have wasted food sitting below the media (that is attracting the fish)? Best wishes, Mark

Yes, I agree. Not sure why biOrb didn't do that but I guess it might be related to an oval shape not be structurally sound without a fixed lid.

2 questions Mark. 1 how big is the base that it sits on please and 2 is it a small or large mcr light. I might replace my 30 litre cube with the 30 loop and wondered if I could get away with the cheaper led version and swap the lights 🤔 thankyou
@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb Жыл бұрын
Hi Paula. The "actual" base is the clear acrylic base which is smaller than the aquarium base section (white, in my case). The clear base gives the impression the tank is floating. The clear base is approximately 36cm by 19cm. The aquarium base is approx. 46cm by 29cm. The light fitting is the small MCR/Led lighting. I would say, if you intend to go to MCR in the near future, that it is a bit of a false economy to go with standard lighting when buying a new tank. Hope that helps, M.

@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb 9 ай бұрын
Yep, the lids are not removable on these. Only the biOrb Tube designs do that. But, in my view, I'm not convinced that biOrbs (regardless of model) lend themselves well to being reef tanks. There are many larger alternative products on the market that are specifically designed/suited for this. Best wishes, Mark

I would suggest at the very least 80 litres but ideally 150-200l. If you are a newbie to wanting/having a reef tank then bigger tanks are far better, say 200l - 300l.

How hard is it to make the Halo 8Gal tank salt water
@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb 10 ай бұрын
Hi. It is less about converting the biOrb to salt water (that's really easy) but the issue relates to the difficulties of maintaining a saltwater tank, especially in a biOrb/small tank. I would generally say that freshwater tanks are far easier to own and maintain compared to saltwater. Freshwater tanks are mainly focussed on using tap water, whereas saltwater tanks generally need to maintain a much higher quality of water. Freshwater fish are hardier and far more able to cope with changing water conditions when compared to saltwater fish. Therefore, far more effort is needed to maintain a suitably stable salt water environment which also needs to be supported by a good (i.e. much better than biOrb) filtration system. Much larger tanks are far more suited as saltwater aquariums. Larger tanks (i.e. larger water content) help to support more stable water conditions. Saltwater means less fish! Due to the reduced oxygen content within saltwater, saltwater tanks tend to support roughly 15 to 20% less fish for a given tank size, compared to freshwater. Arguably there are far better (more suitable) tanks available on the market than those offered by biOrb, including tanks that are specifically set-up for saltwater habitats/use. My general advice, if you are new to having an aquarium and if you also have a biOrb, is that a freshwater tank is far better as a starting point. I hope that helps. Best wishes, Mark

Can you turn biorb tanks into a saltwater tank?
@StepbyStep-biOrb
@StepbyStep-biOrb Жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes, you can and biOrb produce the conversion for this. But... if you are really wanting to have a saltwater tank there are other (larger, non-biOrb) aquariums that would be far better suited. Tanks more suited to saltwater will tend to be supported by a good water filtration system. I would generally say, that freshwater tanks are far easier to own and maintain compared to saltwater. Freshwater tanks are mainly focussed on using tap water, whereas saltwater tanks generally need a higher quality of water. Freshwater fish are more able to cope with changing water conditions etc, compared to saltwater fish. Therefore, more effort is needed to maintain a suitably stable environment (hence, the need for a good filtration system). Freshwater fish tend to be more hardier than saltwater fish and can tolerate broader variations in water quality. Going back to my original point, there is a tendency to need to have a larger aquarium if going down the saltwater route. Larger tanks will support more stable water conditions. Due to the reduced oxygen content with saltwater, saltwater tanks tend to support less fish (roughly something like 15 to 20% less fish for a given tank size, compared to freshwater). If you are new to having an aquarium, freshwater tanks are a far better starting point. Best wishes, Mark

@@StepbyStep-biOrb This is all true, but particularly true is that small tanks make marine aquaristry massively more difficult. Having said that, once one has made the move from freshwater to a saltwater tank, there’s no going back. One is a decoration housing a pet that requires negligible care. The other amounts to a hobby that borders on a lifestyle. But yes, one should have lots of experience with a comparably sized freshwater tank and months of research before getting into marine aquaristry. It’s a true commitment-financially, with respect to schedule, etc.
