what about Songbird. I gotta say when it died I was kind of sad.

I actually teared up a little maybe more than I should of... even tho Booker and Elizabeth are afraid of him through most of the game. When Songbird starts to help you on the airship... you get that even if he seemed evil he was there to sort of protect her from everything he could. Then after you get beamed to Rapture when she was saying "goodbye" while she was shushing and calming him you realize it sort of made her sad but she wanted put him out of his misery. I was genuinely sad like saying goodbye to the only friend you had.

Vigor upgrades are ridiculously expensive, around $1,000+. I never could spend the money to upgrade vigors when there were also $300+ weapon upgrades in the other vendors.

Yeah I found that annoying too, but I figured towards the end that it's set up like that to make you choose you're own style of play, your own combination of weapons & vigors. I dunno, just a thought

I just finished this game and i love it! The only issue i had was how complex the plot was. BUT after reading more and understanding it all I love this game even more! I even like Infinite more than the original Bioshock.

I think that the final baptism was sort of a meta-universe, where basically all versions of Booker came together. I.e. every Booker in every timeline went through a baptism and either accepted or rejected it. Elizabeth, through her powers, brings all those baptisms together in one, (which is probably why we see so many Elizabeths) hence drowning Booker/Comstock in that baptism meant drowning him in every single one of them!

I liked Elizabeth as well. Got to the point where I didn't skyhook execute enemies when she was around. And she's practically essential in surviving later firefights in 1999 mode.

Adam, it makes me so happy and so pleased to see you as excited about this game as I am. I feel Bioshock Infinite has, not only raised the bar for gaming, but has redefined what a video game can be... Just sharing this feeling with other gamers is a unique life experience for me; I have never participated in this collective excitement for a game before.

I've heard a good theory stating that one iteration of Booker is the Songbird. Remember the head security offer Fink kept giving you that you never go through because you're busy making Chen live again? Maybe one Booker actually accepted the offer, getting that emotional binding that was so difficult to create (there was a Voxophone on that).
@MrJandslegate
@MrJandslegate 11 жыл бұрын
I think it might be Comstock. From a collection voxophones it's pieced together that: 1. Fink has stolen a lot of technology from Rapture/Bioshock 1 'universe'. 2. Some of that tech is used to take ailing/dying people and building them into Handy-men. 3. One of Lutece's voxophones confirms that Comstock is not only sterile but also dying. This is the catalyst that drives Comstock to seat the throne with his heir. 4. One of Fink's voxophones details seeing Big Daddies. At that same table we...

Yep! There's also a Little Sister crying next to the corpse of Big Daddy in a tunnel that you can see across from you when Songbird dies. To me, that just helps cement the connection between the two.

One particular example is the scene where it gives you the option to 'comfort Elizabeth', many people have stated that they would like to know what it is he tries to do that causes her to react the way she does but they feel disconnected from the sequence because they really can't tell. It creates a barrier between you and the character since you really have no idea what the character is doing.

First time you go down to the slums, after you save Chen and go to get his machines back, before you open the tear and the vox populi are having their revolution. On the far side of the slums there's a bar, you probably went in it if you explore. On the right of the room is a little space that leads down into the basement, where there's a guitar. Booker can play it and the singing scene happens.

I played it on hard, and I found it frustrating on occasion. The money loss + enemy health regain penalty for death was annoying, since the last save point was often too far away, so I was faced with losing lots of money or replaying half an hour or more of the game. Frankly, I hated the system. So I think, in retrospect, that it would have been more fun on normal, just to focus on the story and the fun of the battles. (And I usually enjoy my FPS's on hard mode.) Otherwise a great game.

Very well said. I think Bioshock Infinite was designed as a metacommentary on its own linearity, on the fatalism of existence and ironically of the 'gamer' in a linear experience that only gives you the illusion of choice. These subtle themes are brilliantly put together with the game mechanics just like the whole 'do that, kill that' was explained in the original Bioshock.

Fairly obvious DLC option: Daisy's Booker. There's a whole alternate story to tell there of a Booker who would play like the one we got, but has a whole different plot going on. They could do plenty of quick "alternate" stories set in that world that would not impact the core plot. I definitely want to see something that gives more exploration of the nature of the Songbird too.

There's actually a voxophone that Fink records in the Vox Uprising tear when you storm his building where he explains that he saw a comination of man and machine that's more than the sum of its parts. Above this voxophone on a chalkboard is a sketch of songbirds, and If I recall correctly, the title of this particular voxophone is "the Child needs a Protector" or some such. TL;DR Songbird is man/machine created by Fink- he got the idea from a tear that he saw.

that's exactly correct. Also the fact that the Lutece's can see every outcome and it ALWAYs lands on heads, hence their conversation about the Male Lutece being disappointed in how hes always right. Also while the game says its her "brother" I do believe they are one in the same person, "how we seem to finish each others sentences", each being from their own original dimension, the male from Bookers world and Rosalind from Comstocks.

This game seriously has one of the best stories i have ever experienced... that ending where you just sit through the credits wondering "what just happened?". But i still almost agree with TBs statement that the game is better watched than played because i played through it on 1999 mode with the konami code and spent about 20 hours exploring and emersing myself in the world... but at the end... the ghost fights, the handymen and the airship battle just made me want to break something

I see your point but I don't see that as a flaw necessarily. What you mentioned, I feel were more like sandbox elements. You could buy the upgrades to enrich the experience and be as powerful as possible, but the game won't penalize you for focusing on something else. I thought it was smart. As for weapon variety, yeah, I see your point, but it's all choice. I used Hand Cannon, RPG, Shock Jockey and Bucking Bronco. On my second playthrough I used the Carbine, Volley Gun, Devils & Posses.

i actually love all of the allusions to Disney, specifically Disneyland, throughout the whole series, with the level design and world-building. Ken Levine said in an interview that as a child he was inspired by the automated rides where they presented these tableaus and you could control where you looked and thus how you saw it (like then with videogames), and the whole idea of utopia with a sour undercurrent is very much Disneyland. smart stuff :)

personally i played the game on hard my first time around, not because i felt like some badass, but because i did the same with the original bioshock and i felt like i got so much more out of the experience. it forced me to slow down and take stock of myself, and it encouraged me to explore more to find resources; in doing so i felt so immersed in both the setting and feel of the games, that i was alone in this world and i wasn't invincible. i found just about every audiolog my first time too

Here's a crazy idea; a Bioshock game, that is fully aware of it being a Bioshock game? Not breaking the fourth wall type, but knowing there is an infinite number of universes, maybe traveling through them, with different time periods, different characters and a full knowledge of the multiverse, but with a linking plot throughout. Either way, Knowing how Irrational is, it will be a long, LONG time before we know of it.

I have an interesting experience from Infinite that I hope Adam reads at some point. The thing is I couldn't find a skyline to jump to from the zeppelin that was attacking the Vox. It seemed to have flown too far away from any foreseeable skylines. I hadn't been downed in battle at all yet and the crashing ship killed me aboard it. I revive next to Elizabeth, who says, "That was amazing." Since I hadn't died yet, I thought, "Was that the game showing me how a "death" ties into this world?"

I think Sessler was one of the first critics to get what Bioshock Infinite was about in terms of motifs involving narrative and how that relates to multiple realities so he's really been the best source of discussion about this game. Disappointing to see certain other people, who would be well suited to deconstructing the imagery and themes of the game, instead take a contrarian POV and wallow in how the game is mechanically different form the first.

I personally liked the Handy Man. Because he was a challenge, where I really needed to use and also NOT use the skyhook system. I constantly need to hide, move and find resources. On Hard they can be a little pain in the ass, but they are supposed to be like that. That's why there are only 3 handymen in the game. Take their fast and "tanky" abilities and what do you get? A boring, slow, big guy which you shoot down like the rest of them. They brought atleast some variety to the opposing party.

I was dead set on the idea that Songbird was Elizabeth's step-mother. I was under the impression that Comstock used his resources in order to turn his then wife into his daughter's mute and deadly protector. This way he could frame the Vox Populi leader for her feather and have someone to defend Elizabeth against Booker all in the same stroke.

Well the reason why TLoU and Bioshock Infinite was so great was because of how well written the story was, and the acting as well. The story is the reason why the games are amazing and they both set the bar and standard for gaming. There's not much else you can do that can be truly revolutionary.

As soon as i saw the city of Rapture again, I knew shit was about to hit the fan, story-wise. The final 15 minutes gave me goosebumps to the point where i couldn't talk to people for about a few hours while i processed it. This game is a testament to gaming in general and an exemplary measure of storytelling. Ken Levine and his team should be revered as the Gods of gaming experiences. Let me tell you a thing about Bioshock as a series, its a creative nightmare. To be able to come up with the idea for Bioshock takes so much out of a guy that asking him to make another one in another place is like asking him to make lead into gold. Also another problem with the series is you can't make another one set in the same place because a lot of what makes the game good is discovering the city so revisiting it is meaningles

In short, each decision made creates two different timelines. So Comstock is the Booker who was baptized and grew to power and insanity, who sent the Luteces to kidnap non-baptized Booker's daughter Anna because his experiments in messing with the timelines made him sterile and he needed an heir. The playable Booker chose not to be baptized after what he did in the war and as a result did not become what Comstock turned into. He was a drunk and a mess, but he did have a daughter Anna who he sold

Robert and Rosalind are dead, theyextensively make reference or parody scenes, dialog and themes from Tom Stoppard's Rosencratz and Guildernstern are Dead, a play which deals with the themes of inescapable determinism, the passage of time and the nature of existence. I think this should be it for the Bioshock series. Infinite was such a swan song that putting out another game within the same vein would just feel unnecessary. I'm sure Ken Levine and his team can come with something radically different yet still as amazing as Bioshock.

This was a very good discussion. What I'd really love to see though, is Sesslers in depth response(s) to some of the very harsh critiques that Bioshock: Infinite has received. Two relatively recent articles on Kotaku were very hard on the game, one about the violence (I tended to disagree with logically) and the other, a somewhat abstract but well written piece by Leigh Alexander.

see schematics for songbird. The picture somewhat resembles Comstock. Granted it could just be another man with an epic beard. I think we may possibly discover from DLC (hopefully) that when following the 1984 timeline we visit culminating with Old Elizabeth is that once she succumbed to the conditioning and accepted her mantle that Comstock becomes Songbird either before dying or (immediately after?). We see at one point in the game that Songbird is capable of traversing tears. To me what...

May you consider that there was a Booker that didn't go to the baptism in the first place. So there could still be a Booker after dying at the baptism. You know? Because he didn't was there. Unlimited possibilities and so on. You know? And Elizabeth was left at the end, because she existed just like the Luteces on the horizon probability and Bookers dead had no influence on her.

would make this great is that a Songbird-Booker-Comstock also drowns essentially by Elizabeth's hand. TLDR: Songbird is Comstock from the 1984 timeline, possibly capable of traversing tears or simply one that is relocated. Also, I could and more than likely am completely wrong.

I don't think so. The ending is either one of two things: either Dewitt is alive because the drowning only killed off all Comstocks (hence Comstock never takes Anna), or because Elizabeth has overcome time and space, there's a paradox in her father dying before her birth. Perhaps the ending is time trying to correct the massive hole Dewitt's death creates.

with regard to the moments where you can make a choice in this game, i think they nailed it. A) when you are presented with a choice it has no effect on the story what so ever, which in turn stays true to the story that choice is an illusion and the outcome is the same regardless. B) the choice may not effect the game (pick a neckalce, ring the bell or bull gun) but you remember it as a player so the game has more of an impact on you rather than the game. goty 2013?

Yeah I feel the same way. The way they ended Bioshock Infinite with the Infinite realities/Infinite possibilities in my opinion is actually a nice way to wrap up the Bioshock franchise. While it does lend itself to saying we could make anything Bioshock it also says that choice is irrelevant and those choices all really lead to ONE ending.

To be honest, I preferred how TB delievered his version "final conclusions" sort of video. Although simular to spoiled games, TB delievered both his opinion on the story and research from various discussion forums that more deeply analyzed the ending and the more quantum mechanics side of the game. I feel although "Spoiled Games" is a great serious, I just feel like I am hearing first impressions from people who finish game, yet lacks detailed research on what elements really meant.

There are a lot of inner ear disorders that cause the first person perspective to create severe nausea, dizziness, motion sickness and in some cases people have been known to faint/pass out. This is almost specific to the first person perspective due to the fact that it tricks your mind into 'feeling' the imbalance. This type of ignorance is exactly why I wish more people in the games media would talk about it because so many people just plain don't know.

I think the DLC for this game will be from all the trailers that we saw prior to release. Those will be used as the other dimensions. Hopefully this will be made true.

I have had to replay the ending 3 times. It is just one of the best story ideas.

I'm guessing none of them played bioshock 2? That game really expanded on the plasmid upgrades as well. In fact the "Crows nest" upgrade is ripped straight from bioshock 2.

The man as I understand it is the man behind the city, the man with the vision, not the player character. Andrew Ryan in Rapture and Comstock in Columbia.

While they talk about deaths, I realized I never died with Elizabeth with me. Never saw that scene before

My biggest hope for a DLC: Play as Booker that becomes the hero of the Vox Populi. Did he die for the cause? Who killed him really? It could even start when you actually die as we know that happens but we just don't know how it happened.

You don't really die per se. Elizabeth just saves you by injecting you with some sort of health potion. I think it's better that way in this case. I was reminded of Prince of Persia.

I would love to see a DLC segment exploring the Columbian system of government. An audio log by Lady Comstock mentions the Prophet "moving against his political enemies", so Columbia isn't a complete oligarchy. I'm willing to bet they have some sort of elected legislature, with Comstock serving as an executive for life. Exploring the government system, especially as a member of Columbia's senate that Comstock is targeting, would make for a great story.

@Joseguy the reason the luteces don't do anything to prevent Anna from being taken is because they couldn't. They made their choice and even if they go back to that moment they can't change it. They have to relive it because it is just a memory. When Dewitt is taken back to the moment he sells Anna he keeps saying he won't do it but in the end he had to because it already happened that way.

And the reason they can't change that decision is because its a constant , giving Anna away will always happen In each universe a constant will remain the same throughout each universe but a variable will change a variable would be booker refusing the baptism . The variable is a decision that can be made to change the out come so literally there are an infinite number of outcomes thus the name infinite ..

If they make a DLC that could flesh out the Luteces' would be great in my opinion. I wanna learn more about them and interact with them more.

@Sessler and co. There are only 3 Vox Populi codes. One in that bar, one in the clock shop, and one in the bank.
