LYRICS:
Dream Of Goodbye Gavin Dunne 2014
I begin at the end
Time will buckle and bend
Child of the profane
Tied to the great chain
Forlorn faces running from the cold regret
Empty spaces something that I can't forget
All I wanted was to wish the past away
But time's the cruelest ruler that we all obey
Chasing shadows, breaking bones and twisting nature's limbs
Elemental, wreck the gentle feed each violent whim
There is beauty in the madness
I just can't see it yet
The purest artist strives for
Profuse extremes!
The elegance of mortal frailty
I dream!
Slaves wait for master to dictate
Blood and fire in the deep sea
No empire is gonna keep me
Odes to transience I create
Blood and fire in the blue sky
Leaders broken waiting to die
Forlorn faces running from the cold regret
Empty spaces something that I can't forget
All I wanted was to wish the past away
But time's the cruelest ruler that we all obey
I begin at the end
Time will buckle and bend
And I dream of goodbye
Sinking sea, falling sky
And I dream of goodbye
No more tears
Well's run dry

But even they in a way are. They are trapped everywhere and nowhere at once. You have to wonder if they interacted with anyone but themselves until booker and the events. And even then, they are forever stuck guiding him, and not knowing who he his or why he matters. Their whole existence is a quantum nightmare.

I think there's an audiolog in Burial at Sea which features Rosalind musing about her brother's suggestion that they return to where they died. She seems to think doing so would tether them once again to the standardized time stream, but allow them to... er, have children.

***** actually in Columbia they have to obey time because they died in Columbia but returned as flesh so they can be killed and time rules over them in the world of Columbia if they were in rapture where they didn't die that would be a different story

I'll miss the bioshock series. Never before have I played games that make me think so much about the endings and then rethink everything I thought during the stories. Each one is a changing thing. With each game i began to question more and more I saw in them yet they always stayed 1 step ahead of me. They're just so good. Words fail to do them justice.

And yet, at the same time, it wraps it up in a nice little bow; Hell, the same wrench Atlas uses to cave in Elizabeth's skull is the one Jack picks up!

And Elizabeth follows in her father's footsteps. Wrapped up the sad tale of the DeWitts nicely. She left the girl to someone who would be there to take care of her. Something Booker never could.

I'm just happy knowing that out there, somewhere, is a Booker who still has Anna, and a Jack surrounded by a bevy of beautiful daughters. And, hopefully, a Subject Delta who found his final peace before his death, and a rehabilitated Charles Milton Porter, who has finally moved on.

Wow. Just wow. This is so beautiful and haunting. I love that you kept the theme of "and I dream of the" throughout all three Bioshock songs. It's especially amazing since you wrote Little Sister with no idea Dream of the Sky or Dream of Goodbye would ever exist (although I bet now you wish you'd named it Dream of the Sea). This is such a fitting send-off to both the series and to Elizabeth, who is one of the best characters the video game industry has ever produced. Thank you for another masterpiece, Gav. Now I just hope you'll eventually somehow combine these three songs and make an ultimate Bioshock tribute.

miracleofsound I'm sure you've already thought of this and either plan to do it or have discarded it for whatever reason, but just in case you haven't: I think it would be cool if you made a new song about the original Bioshock(s) called "Dream of the Sea" which would of course keep the legendary chorus that started the pattern, but also covered more than one theme (like the other two do, i.e. maybe some parts about the ideology of Rapture, Andrew Ryan, the fall of the city, a few subtle hints about "would you kindly", etc.). If not, it'd still be nice to just get a new recording of Little Sister since, and I hope you don't take this as an insult, the sound quality is nowhere near the level of your newer songs.

+ofir beck Write your own ending. I like the think there is a last booker as there was a last comstock. He picked a door to go back and break the circle once and for all. No Anna taken, no pinky cut, no tear powers, no columbia. Booker raises his daughter and they move to paris.
@plaguenumber3
@plaguenumber3 8 жыл бұрын
+John Clark here's a better theory...the fact is Elizabeth didn't undo time....instead she stopped the perpetual cycle. 1 so when the last illiteration of her died, well that's it. But you can see the similarities between herself and your daughter in Bioshock 2. she killed the power, she killed the versions of herself that would spawn DeWitt and Comstock, but her final self doesn't get to go to Paris with daddy....Mother was too much of a bitch.

Actually, if you stayed to the end of the credits of Bioshock Infinite, there's a rather perfect ending to the game. SPOILERS BELOW Booker wakes up from his desk, hears the tell-tale sound of a crying baby, like all those flashbacks, but this time, when he looks into the crib as the scene fades to black, you hear the giggling of little Dewitt in her crib. I think that was a pretty telling ending. Bring us the girl. Wipe away the debt.

One thing I love about the bioshock songs you've done is that throwback section that's in each one that ties them all together tangentally the way the games were tangentally related. It's not something you see a lot of anymore but the way you've done it is still unique in each song. I like it :D

An excellent sendoff to the Bioshock franchise. I still can hardly believe that the series (at least as we've known it) is really over. But damn if 2k didn't do a hell of a good job making an end of things. Gav, I don't know how much the opinion of one guy can matter, but in my eyes you matched the finale with a song fully worthy of it. If this were the last Bioshock-related thing I ever came into contact with, I would be content.

Oh hell yes. I'm just saying that if this were the last thing (and I'm certain it will not, for which I am very grateful) it would serve as a fitting way of putting the franchise to rest. Though now you've got me wondering what some good modders could do...perhaps a plasmid that lets you blast Miracle of Sound music out of your hands and make people's heads explode from awesomeness buildup.

Well kinda depeds if Irrational lets them. Pretty sure the reason you can't find any atm is beacause there's no platform to do it and Irrational have refused to release one. Maybe now they're basically dead in the water they'll change their tune. Imagine if someone made a mod of a campaign literally between Infinite and 1/2, so you could say tear to the other city to try and avoid certain situations. Or hell with the new stealth mechanics I doubt it's an impossible task to literally turn it into an open world RPG. Mock me, but thats what Infinite was nearly before they settled on what it is now.

When I've completed the DLC, I was like "It'd be nice if Gav made a song out of it, would be a nice send-off to the franchise. Eh, I'm sure he has enough on his hands without having to dedicate so much time an effort for just an additional content pack. Too bad though." And yet, here we are. I understand how frustrating it could be to hear people saying that your new work is not as good as your previous one, but I did like Dream of the Sky better :) However, I will say this: I'm just a sucker for its type (and I do mean the titular Dream of the Sky segment). This song is not worse, it is just very different, which is good: I (and probably other people too) wouldn't want you to just re-hash your songs. All in all, keep up the good work.

I love how you made a song per city before this song and both were about dreaming of something. Rapture's song was about dreaming of the sea (more or less), and Columbia's song was about (well a lot of things) dreaming of the sky and being free. Then you combined them into one amazing song, just like Burial at Sea did but with the cities. Well done.

Now im in my first year of college and have an amazing boyfriend. And wouldnt you know it KZfaq again recommended me this. thank you Gav for being awesome, your music is beautiful

I have to say, at first I didn't think as much of this song as the previous installments in Gavin's BioShock "series." It didn't click as readily with me as "Little Sister" or "Dream of the Sky," especially when my initial introduction to "Little Sister" so deeply moved me that I picked up BioShock for the very first time because of it (an unending amount of thanks to you for that, Mr. Dunn!). It wasn't until I started listening to what the lyrics were saying, how happy the characters were trying to sound in spite of their circumstances, that it suddenly clicked for me. This is a beautiful commentary on two characters embracing an escapist mentality to the fullest, and vividly and accurately portrays both the reality of their situation and their stubborn belief that they can make it better despite the odds. Well done to you, Mr. Dunn, for this stunning piece of art, and my hat further goes off to you for your development of your BioShock motif throughout your trilogy. I eagerly await what you bring to us next.

Stumbled across this after forgetting about it for years and now it is once again stuck in my head. I love the contrast between the flowing vocals and the staccato (well, almost) instrumentals.

I know this is a joke, but in case you didn't know, Lorna Dollery did the female vocals, as well as on Dream of the Sky. and pretty much any other song with female vocals, she did them. Her twitter is @Lola_Dee

I won't lie, the ending of the DLC depressed me to the point of nearly hating the game, but...This song actually really remedied that, ESPECIALLY the end of it. I just...Dude, seriously. I don't know how you keep making me feel so many good things from your songs, but you're genuinely my favourite artist. Bar. None. Never stop being amazing.

I'm pissed because I wish to have the feels of Burial at sea, but even though I have the money, it's all in cash, and the version I have is on PC. The only way to convert is by buying steam cards, which come in 20 and 50 dollar increments, meaning, if I want to buy both episodes (30 in all), I don't want to end up wasting another 10 dollars. Already did that with actually buying the game.

I thought this to be the weakest of Miracleofsound's Bioshock songs on the first listening, but when I listen to all three, in a row, it all blends together. Seriously. The temptation to try and get a cosplayed musical rendition of these songs on a stage is just burning right now.

I love how songs for the same games or game series always seem to have some sort of link. The Bioshock series of songs definitely makes this very apparent but it's clear with the songs dedicated towards Skyrim and Elder Scrolls Online as well. It always gives the songs a special little edge.
