Welcome to another Bipolar Disorder support video from Polar Warriors. So many of us feel like we've tried just about every Bipolar treatment option out there to no avail. I personally know the frustrations of medication side-effects, trying to find a (good) doctor or therapist, being able to afford medications, coping with symptoms - you name it! It's really common for people to give up on meds or treatment for a while, only to come back and try it all over again at a later time. For me personally, it took a while after a bad treatment experience for me to be ready for another go at it. I'd usually return to “the path” when I'd get desperate enough to not go through a bad episode again.
My approaches to treating Bipolar Disorder were all very similar... Go back to the doctor, get on some meds again, and try to watch what food or substances I'd put in my body. I kept experiencing the same frustrating results until I realized that my approach to treating the Bipolar was a big part of the problem. I needed some fresh ideas and a new approach, so I asked some very skilled counselors about this. They provided me with some tips that became the foundation of a very successful treatment approach for me. I'd like to share some of them with you all in hopes that it might help make your journey a little less bumpy.
My channel is completely dedicated to helping individuals, families, and friends who struggle with, or know someone living with Bipolar Disorder. My goal is to provide actual tools, tips, and discuss topics that can potentially help “Polar Warriors” grow to live a more balanced, peaceful, and fulfilling life.

I wanted to thank you, and I wanted to share. I'm 38 and have been suffering symptoms since I was a teenager, but only diagnosed this year. I realized that my unstable mood was affecting my ten year old daughter, but I didn't think I could do anything about it. One day, she said she missed "happy Daddy," and that all she saw now was "angry Daddy." This broke my heart and lead me to get the treatment I've needed for so long. The diagnosis of bipolar was simultaneously relieving and frightening, but the sadness in my daughter's eyes is what motivates me.

So glad you had the guts to act........i am on the other side, my wife has suffered with bipolar for 20 yrs now and I can hardly stop her from using cigs, alcohol. weed, etc. At 75. her 62 I now ? my own sanity....keep telling myself to get some mental eval. Guess I'm afraid of what I might find. Maybe some more good outcomes like yours will be my motivation. thanks for sharing....love you all, bobby

Great video! Working on yourself is really WORK....hardest work you will probably ever do. I try not to schedule anything on the days I go to counseling because I'm usually mentally and physically exausted. It's hard but so worth it. Having bipolar is exausting. I love it when you share your stories about karate...very fitting.

My goals right now (after about two decades of receiving my bipolar diagnosis) - 1. Recognize my bipolar symptoms as soon as possible and figure out what neutralizes them. 2. Learn what strategies work for me personally and write them down in a binder. This is going to be my "Bipolar DIY Manual" so I don't have to keep on reinventing the wheel each year or so. It's important for me to keep this information front and center for personal awareness and effective strategies to deal with it.

Really great video. I really needed to hear this looking at my goals I see that they are really not realistic. I stopped taking my medicine and going to therapy because I felt like nothing was working. But seeing this video is opening my eyes to the fact that I need to go back to therapy and try a new medicine. Thank you 💙

I was 12 when I first started suffering with bipolar symptoms. Unfortunately my home life prevented me from realizing I needed help, nor could I have gotten any anyway. It wasn't until age 23, after years of being told I was depressed and anxious, and tons of medication switches, that I got a diagnosis. All it took was the right doctor. In the first meeting with my new primary doctor, she suggested I talked to a psychologist and a psychiatrist about bipolar disorder. I had never considered that option, and I soon was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD. The PTSD was important, because the bipolar disorder and PTSD fed off of one another. That doctor change literally saved my life, and it shows you can't give up, no matter how miserable things are, cause you will find the help you need!

I have one friend who can't manage to take meds. He is one of the few people I know of who can manage it and not feel like he never makes mistakes. I can't do that. My Bipolar affected me in a way that any meds I took helped even if they were not the right meds. I've had symptoms since very early childhood so when I was diagnosed at 25 I was very relieved to know that life wasn't as tough as I thought it was. It was killing me.

Great video!!! I feel like I give up too easily sometimes. And on top of the bipolar disorder I also have this borderline personality disorder thing where I can't seem to maintain steady friendships or relationships and I'm not even sure what I'm doing wrong sometimes, I'm used to feeling abandoned. I don't trust people at all, I've had a lot of fair weather friends. I feel stuck in a rut, I want to go back to having a part time job, but I haven't worked in years and job interviews cause me so much anxiety.

This video really opened my eyes. I thought it was just me, stuck in suckyville that kept getting suckier. I'm religious about my meds, doctor and counselor visits. I had no clue bipolar progressed that way. Here I am at 63 years old wondering why it's been so many years and I still struggle with instability. I twice in my life had around four years (each time) totally immersed in a job because I loved every second of it. I didn't know others with bipolar lost a lot jobs. This is my favorite video by you and I know I will watch many more times. Thanks for everything you share.

Also this happened to me this week. While manic I signed up for a gig and went through all the covid testing to appear in the production then on the day of the filming I felt tired and anxious that I don’t have the right outfit when I saw we weren’t allowed to wear logos. I was also feeling physically unattractive and because I’m homeless I couldn’t just walk into my bathroom to take a shower it involved driving to the gym and packing alll the supplies necessary to get ready and being seen by people

Thanks again for another good video. I can relate to so much of what you talk about. I think my main motivation for earning my black belt was desire. It was something I wanted all my life. The work and sweat involved in getting my black belt changed me. It gave me confidence that could take on anything and do OK. Getting in shape calmed my nerves. It quieted all the voices in my head. At the dojo, I could just be in the moment. I could not worry about tomorrow or feel bad about what I did yesterday. Plus, my teachers were excellent role models.

My GP was a psychiatrist and he didn’t pick up on anything. I only had 6 months treatment and support , that’s only 6 sessions seeing the psychiatrist and then I was discharged. All my friends are gone because they dont understand when I have to cancel appointments and social activity. I isolate myself so aI dont have to feel the pain over and over when people get enough of me. I Suffer every Day........you make it Sounds so easy. I have the biggest personal motivation to get a better life for my childrens sake. I live in Denmark and take my medical treatment serious. But a lot of the medicine is not an option for me. The medicine put my organs out of funktion. I tried for 20 years!

wait,Rob U have a Black Belt ? I watched this video a few times. My mind races & skips here & there.HOW did I miss that??? U should be so proud of that. I took karate, I didn't even know anyone w a Black Belt, not even the teacher. Then we got a new teacher who did have a Black Belt. I felt so proud because MY TEACHER had a Black Belt. That's AMAZING... AND, NOT AN EASY TASK!!!!!!!!!!!!! God bless U !

I’ve watched so many of your videos and had no idea you were a martial artist! I also practice karate and find it helpful to manage my symptoms. I know if I’m not in class that’s a huge red flag for me because I need to be feeling seriously crappy to skip training. I’m blessed to have fabulous instructors who understand my crazy and my limitations; I can tell them when I’m too depressed to safely do certain things. They have a variety of their own diagnoses like depression, ADHD, and others which really helps because we all know we can be honest with each other. There really is no brother/sisterhood like we have in martial arts IMO.

Thanks Robert. I really needed to hear that today. Also, it's probably likely that someone else out there did too. There are already people who said similar things. I'm just thinking of the silent audience right now. Hopefully they were able to listen to the encouragement at the time. Maybe that compassion can be contagious.

Thank you. The more it is communicated in various ways that one can manage symptoms, there is hope, and life can be meaningful, the more likely that a variety of types of people might hear it.

Thank you so much. What you are doing right here will help so many of us! I'm really lucky that my treatment is not invasive and extremely helpful. The extremes are kept to an acceptable limit and I feel okay. Not too good, not too bad. It was a real challange to go to the doctor (neurologist in my example) and I needed a kick in the bottom (which is not the way for everyone, of course!!!), to do so. And for me that worked and now I can live a pretty normal and happy life. If you have any questions or think, that I could help you, just let me know! It would make me very happy to just help one peron.

Tried again recently, but the awful side effects just Stopped me in my Tracks, so am back to No Meds again... Sick of being So Angry/Exhuberant all the time, but don't want to spend my Life in the 'Bathroom' Either, due to meds !!
