Would be nice to see a total checklist at the end of these videos of all the species spotted. Either way enjoy all the videos

I actually saw the female Elegant Trogan. It’s my favorite birding spot in Texas.

Whoa, that Common Pauraque was so cool! I wish I could find Common Nighthawks as easily as Ryan found that Pauraque.

Interesting fact regarding Estero Llano Grande. About 10 years ago I met a young man at work by the name of Don Adams (not to be confused with the gentleman who played Maxwell Smart on "Get Smart"). He informed me that his grandfather was the owner of the land that would later become Estero Llano Grande. The subject was brought up as I was explaining to him that I guided field trips for the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. Estero was one of the prime birding destinations for the event. Just a weird coincidence as this was in Omaha, NE. I've also birded several times with Justin during the RGVBF. He's a very knowledgeable and friendly gentleman.

I love Estero! It’s probably my favorite place to go birding in The Valley. I also missed that Elegant Trogon when it was being seen, but did manage my Lifer Groove-billed Anis.

I birded there in Feb. 2012. Got my life photo of the Common Pauraque at the same location you both had it. Great Birding place.

Great video - thanks for posting. I doubt I will ever get there but I would if I could! Was in TX last summer for more than likely my last trip to the states in this lifetime. Davis Mountains. Very nice. Where I live here in Thailand, we do have quite a selection of Caprimulgidae species. Equally hard to spot! Cheers

Loved this video and all of the different birds and waterfowl you shared with us.

Yes I've been there before. The birds are incredible, but the wind is ferocious; it kept knocking over my scope. So if you go, be sure to have a more sturdy tripod than I had!

I was there a few weeks ago, and it was very hot, and not super birdy. Not sure of my odds of finding a Pauraque in September, but I wish Id have at least know to look... Cool place though. Id love to go back :) You guys got great looks at it :) Awesome !

The water near the deck is really low! Last time I was there the Cacophony of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks was deafening! I love that place so much and can't wait to go back.

I wonder if the black winged kite, the white tailed kite and the black shouldered kite are truly distinct species… they look exactly the same.
