The Rio Grande Valley of South Texas is one of the premier birding destinations in the United States. On a trip to the valley, we made it a mission to find as many life birds as possible. On day number two, we came across a species that would prove to be one of our greatest nemesis birds.

I live in the RGV, and I've told people of a little green bird I've seen around and no one knew what I was talking about. Thanks for letting me know it is an Orange Crowned Warbler.

Those were cool birds to see. I have seen more than 200 species of birds. I think you've seen a lot more than I have.

Love LovE the Rio Grande Valley :) Was just there 2 months ago. I also got my lifer Buff Bellied Hummer :) Still need Tropical Parula, and for that matter, I need 'better' shots of Northern Parula. I've gotten Altamira Oriole on a couple of trips, but still could do better with my photos of them too. Hey about that cold Southern weather , its funny, but while you guys have super cold weather up North, your humidity can often be very low during those times. In the South (and in Cali) our most humid times are during the Winter, and it definitely intensifies the cold ! I had a buddy who moved down from Alaska, and complained about the cold in Cali ! Wait, what ?!?! Great video guys :) Anxious for part 3.... Why do I feel like your going to kill me with Green Kingfisher > my South Texas Nemesis bird !

We are headed to South Padre Island in February 2024. Soaking up all the Texas birding videos I can get until then. A lot of these birds in this video would be lifers for me.🤞

I have a few days off in January & am debating whether to go to RGV or Port Aransas (whooping cranes). Currently there is a Cattle Tyrant in downtown Corpus Christi. Really wish I could drop everything and go see him! Thanks for the great video in the RGV!

I watched this last night after having a horrible birding day. The day was a bust filled with rude people. When the NWR says your car is your blind and to stay inside that includes not standing up outside the sun roof! Tons of people doing that and wondering where the short eared owls at! I'm still miffed! And i get to feel guilty that I didnt take my dog out instead. Rant over!

I didn’t get my Lifer Aplomado Falcon until my 3rd visit to the Valley, and didn’t hook up with a Tropical Parula until my 4th trip there. Finally scored great looks at King Ranch, along with Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl.

Man, y'all are WAY tougher than I would've been...five entire hours in that cold rainy weather?? Eeesh, that really is rough. If I were a tropical animal I'd probably be hunkering down in shelter of some form. Too bad about not getting to see the target bird, but it wasn't a completely wasted trip, right? Giggled at the way Derek was just deadpan about the Laughing Gull!

My current nemesis bird is American Wigeons. For whatever reason, I can't seem to find them. I'm trying to get to 200 birds on my life list before mid March 2024. I only need 18 more but that wigeon would be helpful...
