I used to be able to see 10 or more varieties of birds, many migratory in my yard seasononally. Once the council allowed all trees removed from residential properties new owners cleared trees. I now have a few bees, 1 or two butterflies annually and a few birds that do visit my native garden. My trees used to buzz with honey bees during the day then flying foxes nightly. . I'm so very sad. My new neighbors took out 2 of the Melaluca quinquenervias that were used by possums and other wildlife. The reason they removed them was because butcher birds used the trees for nesting and raising young. All because the woman doesn't like birds. Every year the butcher birds would leave the fledgling with me as i worked in the garden the babies by my side. Across the street more trees removed because their trees had hollows where possums lived which caused their dogs to bark. possums had hollows in the neighborhood trees as did lorikeet etc. My street is bare. The electricity companies have compounded this problem hacking trees in a manner that causes street trees to topple in storms. Do they do it on purpose.
