I love both versions of this song, but in different ways. Birdys cover gives me an emotional feeling and it really touches my heart and reminds me of loved ones that passes away. Mews version makes me think about life and reminds me to always treasure it. I love them both so much. (And just because this version may not be as good as mews version to some of you it doesn't mean this one sucks) it's actually very beautiful

She never ruin covers but neither make them "better" She just makes different "versions" of them sounding also really good. She is amazing, a truly talented artist!

For me, I believe this to be a pretty well accomplished tribute to my favorite song of all time. While I do appreciate the velvet-like quality of her tone and the frailness and vulnerability of her deeper vibratos, I however am not being sold on the emotional triumph that so invariably characterizes Mew's own performance of this song (most likely due to some weird phrasing decisions and the obvious distinction between her voice and the rather direct string section at the first few minutes of the song; what made "Comforting Sounds" so beautiful to me was the way in which Jonas' voice seemingly blended so nearly seamlessly with the less-than crisp string section, which was aided by, besides the similarity in tone of his voice and that of the strings, the help of the distortion of the continuous guitar riff). Nevertheless, the last few minutes of the song, as performed here, (i.e. the ones that really make this song come alive), are truly beautiful and reminiscent of the grandeur that Mew personally imbued into this song.

Its crazy that people hate this piece of art because this version is more famous than the owner one. I mean, she doesn't have to go 'everywhere to tell 'everyone' that this is not her song right? If she never did give him a credit, mew's could charged her already. But he didn't. Why? Well, from here you can guess why, because birdy is a well known artist too. She said million of times that the album is a cover album, the whole songs except 'without a word' is covers of other artists songs, she never said that this song is hers. Like come on, don't be butthurt about it. Mew doesn't even call her out!
