My friend Abbey who I've known ever since childhood, ran the Brum half with me in the hope of achieving a target of a sub 2:10. She's put in the work since Christmas and I knew she'd be capable.
She asked me to help her achieve the target of sub 2:10, of course I very happily obliged. I absolutely live seeing my friends smash their goals!
I thought the best way to do it would be to negative split the race. A risky strategy considering Abbey had only ever run 10 miles during training.
A calm first 11/12km, and then drop the hammer.
Abbey was running for Breast Cancer Now, a charity dear to her heart - all in memory of one of her closest friends Fran, who sadly passed away. On raceday she was up to £1,400 - a tremendous amount to raise ❤️

@6:00 into the video you go past me I’m the bloke walking, I completely burnt my self out in the first half of the race, and struggled for the rest of the race, but I got to the end of my first half marathon, and will definitely learn from this experience

No shame in that Liam, I've been there many times! Don't be so hard on yourself, it was very hot and the first 4 Miles were extremely tough in places. Well done mate 👏🏻

That's me in the Superman costume at 5min 38secs in on the left side of the screen, each run I do is in a Superman costume and has been like that for the past 11 years of doing them for charity. Doing 8 of this year for Alzheimer's Society and Macmillan Cancer Support, did 7 for both charities last year. Took part in the Great North Run a couple of weeks ago too. Next for me this weekend, the Robin Hood Half Marathon. On the cape, I actually have a lot printed upon it, why I'm doing the runs. My Father, Aunt, best mates Father suffer from Alzheimer's & Dementia, close friends Mother passed away from it last year, best mate passed away from Cancer last year. Cheers.

@@itsonandy Cheers! Thanks! Took part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon, completed in 2hr 21mins. 3 more left starting with next weekends Great Eastern Run. Worksop Half Marathon after that then the Derby 10 Mile.

Well done to you and Abbey. Great video. I'm tempted to run the B'ham half again after seeing the new route. Best of luck for tomorrows event at Weston. I'm running in Exeter at the same time and the weather forecast is predicting a warm and sunny morning for us both , so I will be borrowing your negative split strategy. All the best.

Thanks Andy. Exeter was a little warmer than WSM! I managed to equal my PB of 03:40:28 so very happy with that! Hopefully catch you at a race one day!

Awesome video Andy. Massive congratulations to Abbey, what an amazing effort. Love your encouragement for her and I'm sure it made a massive difference. I loved the new route yesterday and the medal is brilliant. I was watching Fordy runs live this evening and he was asking about your other favourite you tube channels. I am glad to report there was a few mentions of your channel and he said he watched your Manchester vlog which he really enjoyed and he said he left you a comment👍

Well done to you both! A great run and both of you finished strong! I 100% agree Andy, enjoying the race, taking in all of the atmosphere, sticking to the plan and finishing strong is pretty much ideal!

Thanks bud, it was a great day out in the sunshine, glad I factor 50'd up! It was so nice to run a race like that, rather than actually feeling like death the whole way round. I guess I'll be feeling like that this Sunday 🥵

Great video Andy, I watched your 2022 run to get prepared for this years. Wasn't expecting to see myself at 8:11, wish I'd have seen you but that last km is a complete blur (wish I knew what a negative split was before the run)

Well captured as always, Andy! I'll add this to the list for next year, I reckon! What else are you up to? I've got Amsterdam booked(!) and I will of course be doing the Worcester City Run (not sure on 10K/Half yet). Had my eye on Weston, but haven't run since Manchester sooo... (Got married and had my honeymoon, which I hear is a common excuse, haha!)

I'll 100% be doing WCR, so see you there! I've got a race every weekend this May, which I'm excited about! Then the big ultra 50k in July, race to the stones 🙌🏻

Had to be done for Strava… Pending a successful parkrun this weekend, I’m looking to keep busy again. The not-in-Worcester Worcester Half might be my next one… I’m contemplating one of Maverick events for Trails… That 50K you’re doing looks awesome. Honestly, as terrifying as the distance is, there’s something magical about trails (in additional to the uphill walking breaks!)
