Married 12 years and I fully endorse Bishop Barron's message. To the extent my wife and I place God first in our lives, our marriage is like experiencing Heaven on earth. In the times we fail to put God first, life can get very hard and we begin to turn on one another. A marriage without God is like an airplane that loses its wings.

@wolf175 Come on, man, that's so simple-minded and unfair. Some of the greatest commentators on baseball never actually played the game, and some of the best military historians and tacticians were never soldiers. Attend, please, to the arguments I'm making and judge whether they're true or false. That's all that matters. And I could introduce you to lots of married people who would much rather go to a priest for counselling, precisely because he's more objective.

There is no such thing as being "married to the church". Aren't you the same zealots yelling about how the only true marriage is" between one man and one woman"? You can't even argue without contradicting yourselves, it's embarrassing.

I'm a Catholic and am engaged to be married next year. Fr Barron, though your answer is a standard answer to "Why do you wish to be married in a Catholic Church?", your answer is very strong and true. I want to find the fullness in my eventual marriage, and this continues to help me direct myself to God rather than just the two of us. Great work Fr Barron. Hope your talks in World Youth Day will be recorded and reposted on KZfaq.

Thank God for this message. as a person who was molested as a child, I never liked the thought of marriage because I had problems accepting motherhood. As a christian, cohabiting was not an option. I bought my copy of Three To Get Married early this year. I read and prayed. I read and prayed. I read and prayed. God is faithful. I got a new mind on the subject of marriage. Marriage is not about me, it is about God's purposes. Oh, might I add that I am not catholic; however, I cannot begin to explain the impact of teachings such as yours, and Ven. Sheen's on my life. Thank you, and keep doing what you do.

Exactly what you are saying in this vedio is what I told a young couple just a week ago, I refered them to Jesus words, Met10:37, God's will between the two has to come first before our own wills, in saying we have to love Him more than the other partner He is not taking anything away, but in loving Him more He teaches us how to better love our partners more than we did the first time.

I think God should be involved in every marriage. Remember when Jesus went to a wedding at Cana with his mother, his apostles and his mother Mary said, "They have no more wine." And Jesus said to her, "Why does this concern you. My hour has not yet come." And eventually he did. He had 6 water jars filled up and he turned the water into wine. He saved the wedding ceremony. His mother Mary also said, "Do whatever he tells you." As for me, I have a girlfriend that I seriously love and she is determined to marry me. And if I do this right, I have to find her ring size and make sure it's not sterling silver because she's allergic. And plus I have tell my mom about and her parents too. So if anyone sees this comment, please only positive feed back.

Your are right Father, when I got married 12 yrs ago, I never thought of all these, although my spouse and I are very much imperfect, but we compromise and came back forcefully with God's help, in prayer and penance, then everything went back to "order" our marriage was convalidated (2010 Divine mercy Sunday)in Catholic church in obedience to the Priest in the confessional and it brought us so much peace in our life, through marriage in 4 because we consecrate our marriage to the Mother Mary.

Bishop Barron this is among your BEST KZfaq commentary video. All young couples should view and study this teaching before thinking of marriage. When I think of any couple that has had a long successful marriage, they tend to fit this "transcendent third" formula. Yet doesn't this concept go back even further than Aristotle - all the way back to the Book of Genesis when God created man and woman? When God said "...it is not good for man to be alone" and created woman from man's rib, wasn't God actually the implied "third" entity right then, too? I think so.

I believe that God puts people in our lives for all kinds of reasons. For me, I have prayed through the Blessed Mother to intercede for me to find someone I can love and be loved by. In hopes that same person loves God and the Catholic Church as much as I do. As, I mentioned before, God does put people in your lives for other reasons as well. Sometimes...it's just a homeless person who has not eaten all day and your kindness is feeds that person which brings that person hope and the thought thar God does love them. God works wonders..even as small as showing love and kindness to someone you do not even know..

continued- it has multiple manifestations. Those called to marriage find that answering this vocational call empowers them to do God's work more joyfully and abundantly. As Father Barron has reminded us continually, love is not an emotion or passion, but a response of the will, willing the good of the other as other. Homosexuals, as well as Heterosexuals, are call equally to the vocation of Married life, a life that glorifies God in togetherness.

You're right. They should. The translation even uses smoother words to describe this give and take relationship which sounds slightly abrupt in the english translation. The quote in the bible you originally mentioned is emphasizing that 1 member of a heterosexual relationship should never use dishonest means to withhold from his or her spouse. This is one of the few quotes from the bible I agree with.

I am not devout Catholic, I just watched the video again, and re read my comment from 5 months ago, basically what i get from this is: "IF the ideology, WHATEVER that may be, is STRONG enough, AND the SAME, THEN it will last." As he basically summarizes at the end of video starting at 5:24. He bills it as it has to be centered around God, 'the third' has to be that, & I am saying that it is the principle, that can help make it easier, it does not specifically HAVE to be God.

@Trev S God provides us with all good things as He shepherds us through this fallen, broken, lost world. Sometimes He puts us through the fire to refine us. This world is the obstacle course we must all negotiate, walking by faith and not by sight. We don't curse God because of how much this world is suffering. We accept this suffering world for what it is because our final destination is so much brighter than this current darkness.

The Real Problem is the Breakdown in Marriage: Have you seen the rise in Annulments from 1968 compared to today within the Catholic Church? The rise in Annulments was a tsunami of Annulments: In 1968, the American church granted fewer than 600 annulments; today in 2020 it hands out more than 60,000 a year - From less than 600 to more 60,000 in 40 Years!

When I realised I loved my wife and wanted to be with her for the rest of my life - that was the moment when I became "married". You could say the sun went down one evening and in the morning when I woke up I was married. "Marriage" in it's more usual definition to me is just a ceremony of public advertising. It is primarily a way of just telling the rest of the world what I already knew. It is also a good time for a party and for the women to buy new hats but the essence remains that it is an "after the Lord Majors Show" event - if you see what I mean. In no way did the ceremony of marriage change or add or create anything that I didn't already know.

FaithandReason101 In the English language, words do change meaning. We often re-define the meaning of words. Many new words are also added to the English language every year. Isn't it wonderful then how our language develops as do our thoughts and morals - unlike the Catholic Church...."Yeah, let it be known that the word "marriage" shall meaneth and only meaneth ... blah, blah, blah blah, blah").
