Bishop Barron Speaks at his High School

Күн бұрынFriends, I was honored to return to my high school today, Fenwick High in Chicago, and to receive the Lumen Tranquillum Award. It was at Fenwick, when I was 14 years old, that a theology teacher first introduced me to St. Thomas Aquinas and his arguments for God. It changed the course of my life, leading me, by the grace of God, into the priesthood. God bless Fenwick High and all its teachers and students!

Why does Bishop Barron come forth as a welcomed guest and honored speaker? And when I ask myself this, the answer comes forth in a very parochial manner. He is a pastor. He is a shepherd. And he is a good one.

I graduated from Fenwick High School in 2017. I took four years of theology courses and we watched a few of Bishop Barron's youtube videos and parts of his Catholicism series in class. I wish I could have been there to hear him speak.

Why congratulate on awards?! Let's get back to the Salvation of SOULS. This is the only reason the CATHOLIC CHURCH EXISTS! Leave all your empty awards behind ......let GOD keep track of rewards! I've done this & vowed to be no part of or I quit! May have to be cloistered....?!

@@gm8072 It was my own choice to congratulate. How does it affect you? Do you mean I can't be doing a thing? And whom are you threatening? If the Church is that bad, is anyone forcing you to stay imprisoned? If I have to give you some info there are plenty many who left the Church and have come or are coming back to this very same Church. So get out in case you are feeling the pressure too much. It will be a good idea to look at what you left from at a distance. At times you can't see things from too close. I will guarantee you if your search is genuine and if you are honest and willing to put in some effort you have got to get at it.

He speaks about honor as a typical substitute, but he's basking in honors from man. All because he sounds like an intellectual. How many souls were converted by this award-acceptance speech? Or any of his homilies for that matter

@@brianheath5091 There indeed are those who come to the videos with wrong goals. If Bishop Barron merely 'sounds' like an intellectual avoid him. There are too many who are grateful to him for having led them to God. If you do not know that you may have just come out of some hiding. It is upto you to check facts.

@@marypinakat8594 I've been out of hiding for quite some time. Saw his Catholicism series years ago. Same as the rest, makes already decent Catholics feel good about being Catholic. And back to the original responder's point... I repeat the words of Christ, "they have already received their reward."

Let the record show that Bishop only started at Fenwick and was a Fenwick Friar for only one year. After his freshman year he transferred to Benet Academy and became a Benet Redwing. He then graduated as a Redwing in 1977. Go Redwings and the class of 1977 ;)

Indeed. Michael Voris is the greatest Catholic I know, just before The Bishop. The bishop just needs to clarify that and my respect for him will be though the roof.

Repents? For what, hoping in the unimaginable abundance of Divine Mercy, while accepting the possibility of hell? He's not rejecting hell, he's asserting that God is so loving and so merciful that we can hope that He can transcend our darkness, insofar that He ultimately annihilates our desire to alienate ourselves. To me, this is a profoundly beautiful image of God.
