Marisa Tomei won an Academy Award for this movie. It’s very rare than a comedy gets nominated for anything, let alone wins an Oscar. She’s incredible in this, as she is in everything.

Vinnie was able to get a good night's sleep in prison because supposedly he was used to the noise of people in a city. It was a constant din, not a sudden sound in the midst of silence. (Many urban dwellers have a hard time getting to sleep when it is too quiet, minus even the sudden noise that wakes up Vinnie.)

Bisscute I stuttered all the way through highschool and after years of speech lessons it was difficult but that scene was funny as hell. Don't feel uncomfortable about laughing, it only hurt me when I knew the intent was to mock or embarrass me. My friends would often laugh when I got stuck on a word but not in a derisive way, often laughing myself

The film was written with Vinnie being Dyslexic, and thats partly why it took so long to pass the Bar exam, and partly why it takes him so long to get through the book on proceedures (the dyslexia was cut from the final script, but Pesci still plays him in a way that gives the impression, anyways)

I'm with you on the stutterer. As an ex-stutterer (it sometimes comes back with anxiety), I always get sad when I hear someone else stutter in real life. But here, I don't think the joke is "hey! He has a stutter! That's a funny sound!" so much as the fact that it comes out of nowhere. Stan has already lost faith in Vinny, thinks he's safe, and he's left with this guy who stutters (no biggy in itself), spits on the jury by mistake (uhoh), chooses wrong words (big trouble now) and hands arguments to the prosecution. The stutter is just the prelude to the joke, and the punchline is "I'm getting better".

You have to remember Bisscute, comedy is an over exaggeration of humor. At comedy shows and comedy movies it's all in fun. To let out the tense real world and have a laugh. There is a comic that has a delayed stutter and he's very successful. He pokes fun at himself and he expects you to laugh other wise he's not doing his job lol.

grits are wonderful. they're mainly eaten in the Southern USA (in history, it was considered food for poor people). i am from Texas and grew up eating this type of food. it is made from hominy which is a type of corn product. then it is dried and ground into a rough meal. then boiled into a porridge. (think of it as a sort of "loose polenta"). grits can be eaten with cheese, shrimp, eggs, pulled pork, bacon, or with milk and sugar as "sweet grits". if you ever have a chance to try grits, do so. some people do not like the texture (it's a little "rough") but aside from that it is a well loved food.
@stanleymyrick4068

How I grew up eating grits is alongside eggs with the yellow runny. Mix the eggs up with the grits (with salt/butter of course) and it's fire. My wife wouldn't eat grits like that, if she ate grits at all. Then went to a restaurant and she got a breakfast bowl that had grits, bacon, and eggs all mixed up and she was like 'this is great'! I said, yeah, I know. It's the same thing I do at the house that you turn your nose up on.

My star rating on this is a solid 3.5, mostly due to the amazing performances. When you're ready for a 4.9 star comedy with an incredible ensemble cast, check out Steven Spielberg's "1941" (1979). 2 True Stories about this movie.......... 1) My nephew and his college roommate were going back to college when this movie came out, and they almost got arrested traveling through Arkansas on their way to Knoxville wen the police were on I-40 near Little Rock looking for a white Ford Explorer like they were driving. They were not arrested, but were detained for about 45 mins. We got the "Hello, Mom, we need you to talk to the police here with us." call from them that night. 2) The University of Utah "Utes" used the Vinny and the Utes joke during their football and basketball games that year.

Once again Marisa Tomei was pretty, cute, supportive and very smart in "My Cousin Vinnie", "Untamed Heart", "What Women Want", "Unhook the Stars", "Spider Man", "Slums of Beverly Hills" and many, many other movies as well. Joe Pesci was in "My Cousin Vinnie", "Good Fellas", "Home Alone" and few we others. Fred Gwynne was the Judge in "My Cousin Vinnie, and Herman Munster "The Munsters", "Disorganized Crime', "The Cotton Club" etc. and Macchio in "The Karate Kid" and a whole lot more. Also you have to keep in mind that people from the city have always thought that people from the country thought that people from the city.werr just plin stupid. Also that as long as I remember is that guy's do not want to admit that women are equally as smart as they are or even smarter because it makes them feel dumb and stupid. That is what they call "Battle of the Sexes" even though they are both on the same side and not competing against them at all. But anyway back to the picture. But anyway the guy that was a studder practice by practicing how to as well as spitting all over the place and that he was also like Vinnie new to the lawyer business thing too. He was the public defender who said that he will get better as he goes too. Remember about six o'clock in the mornings the stupid rooster will crow to wake everybody up In the movie eailier. To explain some Americanisms, the South has two faces: one that respects conduct and decorum (i.e. the judge), and the other that rejects it (i.e. the rednecks at the pool hall). Even though Vinny is a New Yorker who clearly stands out when he enters the pool hall, he's still a brash Italian-American tough guy likely brought up in a working class family, so he understands the rednecks and speaks their language when dealing with them.

believe it or not, they're called a screech owl, and I don't know about Louisiana. Or wherever this is supposed to take place. I guess Alabama, but here in California, they are a real thing, and they sound just like that .

That particular kind of owl is called a screech owl...for obvious reasons.

Marisa Tomei is so great in this! Have another comedy for you; “Oscar”, which also has her in a supporting role. Seriously funny film with a cast of talent, including Stallone who is the lead. Brilliantly scripted & one has to pay attention because of the underlying humor throughout. Hope you consider, really think you will enjoy it.

Love your reaction!! You sound like you may know a few things about the law and courtroom. I think you’ll enjoy “A Few Good Men” and has quite a few sarcasms you can certainly appreciate and enjoy. It’s a great movie and a star studded cast. I look forward to seeing your reaction to this

23:12 "At this point I just hope she can take over the case." She cannot. She didn't go to law school or pass the bar. She's not a lawyer and it's illegal for her to represent a client as if she's a lawyer.

I used to have a screech owl in my backyard that would screech like the one in the movie. It liked it because it kept my cotton tail rabbit problem under control.
