I think Bitoku is a huge step for the Spanish boardgame designers, it reach a difficult level no one had until this year and it will be develop this year with other title, stress botics. It's a nice game, I have been in the testing team of the project and I think everybody can enjoy it, but specially people who enjoy games from Italian masters as Luciani or Taschini. Keep an eye in German Millán nice projects are coming

I'm always impressed how deeply you dig in to the gameplay whilst hardly missing a beat. I was just wondering, do you have notes or do you try to record the review while the metaphorical buns are still hot out of the oven? The game looks lovely. I wonder if David Turczi gave any design tips to the designer?

iirc dave did work on the solo rules (i could be wrong about that though). i don't have notes at the ready while filming... i'm just going by memory and seeing where the game takes me (while trying very hard to push it in directions that let me demonstrate as many unqiue things as possible)

Thanks for the runthrough! It really looks gorgeous. But thanks to your video I can see, that it is one or two notches too heavy for my taste. But that's okay and saves me the time in Essen ;-)

I really want to see this game in person. Everyone I’ve seen talk about it says it’s beautiful but in video and photos I just see colors and shapes and busyness everywhere and I can’t distinguish anything. Starts looking like a magic eye picture to me. I’m hoping it’s easier to see things in person, I would have to assume it is. Great vid, as always though :)

I've been very close to pulling the trigger on purchasing Praga Caput Regni, and then I saw this one in the feed. I just checked and you have yet to award this one a Geek Rating, so I'm curious where this one might fall, or at least in comparison to Praga. I don't want you to have to give up all your secrets before the end of the month roundup, in one of the most important gaming months of the year.

i'd rate praga over this, in part because it's shorter, in part because dusty old beige euro building stuff is my fave theme (not that the bitoku theme isn't wonderful) and party because i feel a bit more tension at 2p in praga. but bitoku is wonderful as well :)

This is exactly what I was wondering, gonna get one of either Praga or Bitoku but play usually at 2, particularly these heavier games. Thanks!

Ιt's interesting that you compare it to a Lacerda game. I actually saw a lot of Feld in it. It's a mechanic/point salady game but, like Bora Bora, even though the board makes it look overwhelming, at it's core it's actually quite elegant. As someone who despises Lacerda games but has Feld as his favorite designer of all time, the distinction is crystal clear to me, even though they both, at first glance, seem to make mechanically overcrowded games. And this game has obvious Feld influences in my opinion.
@rahdo

to me the lacerda comparison comes from the unique combination of complexity, interlocking systems, and most importantly strongly integrated theme. it's jsut that lacerda does real world themes as opposed to fantastical ones :)

This one's just a bit too big and complex for me. A little sad because I really like the theme and the artwork. Also I can't imagine how long this game takes to set up LOL. All those components!

Silk is a small game, extremely abstract, except for the box cover, and rather vicious. To my wife and I, it felt a little underdeveloped, if not exactly broken, as some edge cases are problematic. Not the kind of game I think of when I think of Rahdo. YMMV.

if everyone does their own board and you keep the various stuff in separate baggies, i'd say it takes about 2 min to setup :)

it is a lot, but bear in mind watching a video where the entire huge board is crunched down to fit on screen makes it look worse than it really is. IRL it's absolutely beautiful, and of course, your eye focuses on the key parts of the board :)

My first observation while being taught the game last weekend was sensory overload. But after the first couple of rounds, it’s like the Matrix, you no longer see the falling symbols, you see what the iconography means and it’s actually super clean and intuitive.
