Great video. Very well produced and you make it so we can actually see the board. You've convinced me to get my game off my Shelf of Shame. I'm only through the 1st round so far, but I look forward to continuing through the rest of the game.

Thanks for your playthrough! Like you, I wasn't sure I was going to like Bitoku, but I bought it and tried it, and now it's one of my favorites! However, I've only played 2p, not brave enough to try the Tengu solo mode. Maybe I will give it another look!

Definitely have a look at some player help bits on BGG for the solo mode, it really helps to keep it a bit smoother and quicker! It's a difficult one but I find it very rewarding!! I hope you love it!

Just a dozen or so months ago, I would have jumped into this title with enthusiasm. But currently it "scares" me = it's a very difficult game. I'm in a calm phase now🙃 - I have great fun with light titles: Grand Austria Hotel, K2, Castles of Burhundy, The King is Dead etc... (more serious titles: Barrage, Pax Pamir, Anachrony, Robinson Crusoe etc - they are gathering dust 😉) --> waiting for a better well-being = maybe in spring ??? 😀 I need to find some time to watch your game carefully, because I've heard a lot of good opinions about this game in solo mode ;-) Thank you for the video... 👍

It definitely scared me a little too - you're not alone there! It does take time to get used to, more than usual, but I think it's completely worth it! I think this game is a real gem and I keep thinking about it, even now it's off my table. I want to get it back out even now! Definitely a good thing to have more relaxing games to fall back on as we work through these winter blues - mine at the moment is Cascadia with the little solo campaign :)

No unfortunately not! That would have been fabulous. They just mention their inspiration for the game but don't go into any details :(

@@bluedogboardgames oh well. Uwe Rosenberg, with Feast For Odin did an amazing job in providing a context; pity the designer/s didn’t see an opportunity with Bitoku.

I’ve been leaning towards heavier games in the new year, and this one was on my list. It’s appealing, but I grabbed Scholars of the South Tigris instead until I could see this one in action fully, am glad you did a full playthrough! The automa does look a little intimidating but you did a good job selling me on the idea that it gets smoother after a few plays, especially with the aids or an app.

Ohh wow I'd love to play Scholars - how do you like it? Yes I really hope the app gets picked up again, at the moment I can still only get half a game out of it before crashing but it helps so much! The flow chart is the next best thing and makes it a lot smoother. It definitely needs a lot of effort for the first few plays but I just love it, I think it's definitely worth it.

@@bluedogboardgames I’m quite taken with Scholars. The color mixing concept, using workers and dice colors together to get specific shades and specific values can take a little getting used to but it’s far more intuitive than I expected. And while it’s heavy, I never feel like I’m at a loss or forced to do something unsatisfying. A lot of options. And the automa so far is great, typical of Shem’s games. I play games two handed a lot of the times these days but as they get heavier the brain power required to run both sides can make games take multiple days so appreciate a smooth automa.
