Bitumen Plant
Not so popular, but very important from civilization point of view!
Bitumen could be optain by changing the operation conditions of vacuum distillation unit in order to achieve desire properties especialy penetration and softening point, but it is true that the quality of product and flexibility are not so high.
Different types of bitumen shall result by combining pitch and resin from deasphalting unit, residue from visbreaker Plant, vacuum residue and even heavy vacuum gas oil adding varrious additives or polymers.
The most important step of the process is oxydation in special reactor where air is provided using a well design distributor under continous mixing, the temperature and oxydation time shall be set in order to obtain the desire quality.
The gas resulted from process is cool down to separate any liquids and if contains acid components could be treated, but the normal way is to be burned at higher temperature in an incinerator keeping Environmental constrains.
Bitumen unit could be inserted in the Refinery scheme downstream Vacuum Distillation or Deasphalting Unit / Visbreaker.
