#Bollywood and its problems with fair skin obsession and ridiculing individuals of darker skin tones is not a new problem! It has been carrying on for several decades and with the embarrassing commercial song that released recently, it seems like, it is not stopping anytime soon!

I have dusky skin. Growing up, I was constantly criticized and bullied by my classmates as to how dark my skin color is. Thankfully, I always had my mom who told me that I have a very beautiful facial structure and fair people don't define who you are. You work hard and you make the haters shut up. And I still stand by it. 💜💜

Bollywood has set some insane beauty standards in India now because of that bhale hi log khud kabadiyo ki tarah dikhte ho lekin partner ekdam hero/heroin jaisa chahiye rahega, apne app ko dekhne se pehle wo doosre ki galtiya nikalte hai, Don't worry you all you are beautiful the way you are, everyone is, no need to feel ashamed of something irrelevant, go on in your lives you will surely find someone who will value you for you :)

First listen to the song .... I'm definitely not a Bollywood fan , but that song was not to show ho w dark skinned Beyoncé is by comparing her to some stupid shit like Ananya Pandey. The song's about how mesmerising her dance moves are that Beyoncé " Sharma jayegi" . First listen to the damn song , don't write absurd comments. It's really dumb and annoying.

'Tujhe dekhke goriye Beyonce bhi sharma jayegi' is upsetting because Beyonce is not white? If the actor named was Jennifer aniston or Emma Watson would the song be acceptable then? I think the lyricist wanted to convey that the guy is praising the girl over the top by proclaiming her better even than Beyonce. Which means that Beyonce is actually shown to be very very attractive. I don't understand this big of a fuss over this thing. If you have racist thoughts in your mind, you will seek validation of every little thing and have problem with every little thing. If your mind doesn't have that racist bias, you wouldn't dissect every little thing so badly instead just enjoy songs.

Bollywood has many foreign heroines like Jacqueline Fernandez, Katrina Kaif, Nargis Fakhri, Sunny Leone, Yana Gupta, Barbara Mori, Lisa Ray, Alia Bhatt is a British citizen, etc. Kangana also told this in Republic TV that they prefer foreign actresses as Indians love pale / fair skin. They also show South Indians with dark skin and lungi. Also critics like Rajeev Masand write blind articles about less anglicized more desi people as per Chetan Bhagat’s tweet.

The problem with movie naseeb apna apna was not only how he mistreated his wife...it was still tolerable as he got maried against his will and he was not in love with her... The main issue was when his wife got makeover, along with straight hair, she automatically became fair ..I mean which salon can change the skin tone. And worst was rishi kapoor suddenly started liking her after that. That showed the shallowness of the movie... But Bollywood is not completely to be blamed....in indian mentality or all over the world, fairer sex has always given preference. It's a deep rooted ideology which will take ages to change. Black cat is still considered as a bad omen... What else to say!

And all my life, it has constantly been engrained in the back of my head (by every Indian around me) that I am one of the low-lives out there because, despite my talents and achievements, I am one of God’s ‘bacha-kucha’ maal. I still remember when a very well-intentioned acquaintance (my friend’s younger brother actually) casually said to me that the song “Kudiye ni tere brown rang ne” is a song created for people LIKE ME - his tone indicating that finally, people like me have some songs for them too. I have to say that only after leaving India and settling elsewhere have I finally been able to breathe, with regards to a lot of things. I felt quite suffocated in India.

Okay just tell me one thing, does racism only mean making fun of dark skin? The song brown rang says “white chicks, nah, I don’t like them anymore” which kinda in a very slight way does make fun of the light colour :). Nobody's still asking the real question! Why bhoomi had to be painted with dark colour when there must be, without a doubt, dark-skinned actresses in our country capable of doing the same role as well as bhoomi did. That itself shows the double standards and lack of conviction from the part of the makers of the film. I hope atleast this channel would discuss this issue in a video so that people start thinking. Btw, love for ur applause for malayalam film industry.❤️

right? i hate how people call it "acting" and question that why people had no problem with aayushmann playing a bald man. like how can you compare baldness with skin tone? and how many young bald men exist who are actors too? people will pull any ridiculous argument just to defend colourism.
@sakshikhatavkar3562
@sakshikhatavkar3562 3 жыл бұрын
@smeraldo The thing is you can't really compare baldness or sexuality to skin colour. Even if an actor is bald irl, they can easily take treatments/use wigs to help with it. And the film was about premature balding and they needed an established actor to promote that message. For SMZS they tried to cast a Gay actor for the role opposite Ayushmaan but the people they approached refused to do the roles because that would make them come out of the closet and they feared that they'd be typecast and never be given straight roles. On the contrary Skin tone is a VERY visible trait. And casting a comparatively fair skinned actress for the role when there ARE dark skinned actresses out there is not just disrespectful, but it reduces the impact of the message they were trying to go for. So no honey, your comparisons are not accurate.

@@sakshikhatavkar3562 agree with you. The bigger problem is also that western people also used the methods and discriminate black people in that way. That is know forbidden. They wanted in the whole movie to show that is a big problem in India to be dark. And they decided to take an actress who is even not. If she would stand for many days in sunshine and get a darker skin tone than it will be ok but in such a way by coloring? That is discrimination. To take an actor to play a homosexual it is ok. But a skin color is something what you can see from outside. After watching thw movie everybody were just like see her she is beautiful even she is dark. Stop it people. I never say to a girl you are beautiful even you are white 🤦🏽‍♀️

I honestly had no idea what "chittiyan kaliaiya" meant when I first heard the song. And at that time I had no means to understand it's implications as KZfaq was still not mainstream and the people around me weren't bothered at all. After coming onto KZfaq and actively participating in conversations around skin colour did I finally understood what's wrong with it. So, I'm happy that the current generation at least has this kind of content at hand, whether they actually understand or not is a whole another discussion. So, thanks Jammy for talking about issues that are obviously still relevant in a very helpful and kind way.

Cinema kind of does influence perception of viewer. As a kid I also had biased towards dark skinned persons , maybe because that's what society was doing or that's what I saw in movies. When I first watched a Hollywood movie and Will Smith as hero, I was really disgust that they put a black person as hero. But over the age that changed and now I am disgusted at what kind of child I was at time. But that's also due to cinema mostly due to Hollywood I learnt we are all equal and was able look past the "Beauty" defined by colour. P.S. my education also played an important part in this 😆😆
