Thanks Demetrius for taking the time to react to my fight. I'm humbly honored to listen to your advice and breakdown. This was my first MMA fight. My opponent executed a good game plan and my lack of experience in this rule set was evident. I stepped up to challenge myself and fell short. Life is like that sometimes but all in all I had a great time. I'ma maintain, always learning always growing . Osss❤

I once trained at a BJJ gym and asked my coach if we could work some wrestling too. His answer was "I don't teach wrestling this is a BJJ gym". I quit the next day and went to the local Muay Thai gym instead. If I'm not gonna learn complete grappling then I'll at least learn complete striking. Too many grapplers neglect the ability to close distance in a fight. They say a lot of fights go to the ground, but all fights start standing. (For those wondering, there weren't any MMA gyms in the area so I couldn't go somewhere that trains both. I had to pick between specialist gyms)

its the dumbest thing- i had the same experience. The BJJ guys are like a cult and honestly don't even condition themselves or even train for a real fight. we start from our backs and learn positions from there, but very little incentive to get to there I once sparred with the gym brown belt, as a joke i left my lead hand in his face, and danced around him (a little game we used to play in the muai thai gym), he couldn't get around it and couldn't get me close to the floor.... i was stunned

Idk if you will see this, but I just started Judo (my first martial arts class) and was wondering if you had any thoughts or advice on it? What does turning judo skills into mma skills look like? Big fan sir, amazing that such a legend is just spitting game here on youtube

This is the biggest problem with BJJ they train grapling exclusively yet dont know takedowns.

I am sad to say, I only watched a few of your fights. You know the way it is. Heavy weights always get the spot light. But you are smart and funny as hell. I am glad you have this platform. You and Dominic Cruise are the best at explaining fight tactics. I loved your fight with Rodtang. He is one scary MF.

Sure he’s a BJJ black belt, but you still need a way to get to the ground. Train wrestling for the takedowns, and BJJ to finish the fight. Neither art is better than the other, you should train both to become a more complete fighter.
