I never knew the UK had these until I saw an Inspector Lyndley and they were solving a death mystery at a caravan park. I am from the coastal south USA so "trailers" LOL are a way of life. I live in north Florida where mostly only poor people live in them usually on country land but further south, it's not so much of a stigma on them. Down there, they're called mobile homes or manufactured housing. Nice parks exist for them with community pools and tennis courts and activities the like. My uncle sold these in Central Florida for years. I love touring them and this is a very nice channel.

Ours are generally smaller than American mobile homes, but most people don't live in them. There are a few residential parks that are generally for people aged 55+ only and no children. These ones being shown here are more cramped than a residential mobile home, but these are sited on holiday parks. The holiday parks tend to be near a beach, have pools, launderettes, bars, games machine arcades, shops, cafes, takeaways and a cabaret bar for evening entertainment. Generally the evening kicks off around 6:30pm with cash bingo, then approx an hour of party dances and dressed up characters so the kids get an hour of dancing and learning routines to cheesy but fun songs. Then they'll have an hour show, which could be a comedian, a magician, a singer, a band, or could be the site entertainment staff doing song and dance routines from musicals, that kind of thing. Then they play dance music until approx 1am for those who want to keep drinking and partying. (Can you tell I've been on *LOTS* of these holidays! 😁😁😁) They also have outdoor play areas and sports courts. If you own a holiday home, you also pay yearly site fees. They vary depending on what facilities each of the parks has, but are approx £2000-£3000 a year. This includes access to all facilities, pools, entertainment, maintenance services, refuse collection, and water usage... You pay your own gas and electric separately, but some sites do include those as well in the site fees. You can stay in your holiday home for approx 10 months of each year, (some are open 50 weeks of the year) ncluding Christmas time and new year, and the sites close for maintenance, new staff training, upgrades and additions during January and February. That's also required by law, as they are NOT licensed for residential living, and you CANNOT buy a holiday home without being officially registered as living full time at a permanent address elsewhere, where you pay council tax. These holiday parks are probably THE most popular holidays for people in the UK. As well as European beach holidays, particularly Spain. But there are also sister holiday sites dotted around Europe too, run by the same companies that own the UK parks. If you own a mobile home you can keep it just for yourself to pop down as often as you like, or you can also choose to rent it out for so many weeks of the season to other holiday makers. Hotels are nice for an evening or two for an anniversary or something special, but for me, you can't beat a good old fashioned caravan park near the sea! I've been to at least 100 sites around the UK, and a few in France. I've also toured round Europe with my parents when I was younger and they towed their own touring caravan back then. I wish they still had it, I'd make it into my own little she-shed in my back garden! Funny that you're watching our UK mobile homes, they must seem so tiny, but remember these are not classified for full time living. I watch a channel from America, Chance's Mobile Home World... I think that's what he's renamed his channel, it used to be Mobile Home Masters. OMG the American mobile homes are so beautiful! He showed one yesterday and I could have cried! It was literally like it had been made to match my ideal mobile home! And I was so upset because I can't afford the front door let alone the rest of the home! I'm obsessed with all things "caravan", it brings back so so many happy memories over my lifetime, growing up, watching my kids and nieces enjoying the same fun, and now they have kids too who get as excited as I still do, car loaded up and heading off for a week of fun! I am desperate for a week away but coronavirus has ruined this year! Some sites are slowly opening, but with very limited access to facilities and entertainment, and I wouldn't want to experience a holiday under those circumstances, I'd be so disappointed! Anyway, sorry for barging in on your comment and typing you a novel! I lost myself for a while in an almost astral projection way! My head was right "there" as I was explaining things! I'm almost sad I ran out of steam, and snapped back to reality! I just found it interesting that an American would find OUR mobile homes / static caravans interesting! You can also buy the double wides over here on a few sites, but then you're talking much bigger money! These types, as in this video, are the more common family holiday homes over here. Cheap and cheerful, rough and ready, mainly somewhere to crash after a day at the beach, or visiting a castle or theme park, followed by bingo, entertainment and a night of dancing! Perfect! Ok, I'll definitely shut up now... 🙄 love from Tami, South East England, not far from the sea, and it's currently a gorgeous sunny afternoon! ☀🌞🌻🔆😎🏖🍨

@@tamielizabethallaway2413 LOL! No problem I tend to run on a bit to my answers on here and write a novel once in a while. I just turned 57 and I like people to benefit from my knowledge. Pass it on I say. My interest in UK Caravans honestly, came from one episode of Inspector Lyndley. LOL They reminded me of Goren and Eames on Law and Order Criminal intent except for the difference in their social classes. They did an episode at a caravan park. I think there was a famous "shower scene" from that one. I also saw a few skits about USA trailer parks on "French and Saunders" where they'd laughed at perceived thing about older folks, living the retirement lifestyle down on the Coast near Palm Beach Florida. Can you tell I watch a lot of BBC? It's a wonder I like them I lived in one at age 11 out in the piney woods and it scorpions and rattlesnakes were all around. I have a Uk friend on facebook and I try to learn stuff about UK life other than from just the BBC. I'd hate my Uk brothers and sisters to think we all are like the folks just from Hee Haw. lol Ty for the lovely response. I get too many trolls and I appreciated a kind "novel!" Bless.

@@tamielizabethallaway2413 Well I tell you what If I win the Florida lottery I will add that location to my dream trip to the UK. Outside of a lottery win or where a white prize van comes to my house called Publisher's Clearing House...LOL...I doubt it can be me in that caravan as my husband and I have a retirement house to pay off and travel will not happen. I want to visit my old ancestor land of Wales. And I want to see an old internet friend of mine down in Portsmouth. I'm sure someone else can benefit from that link and the info tho! Or then again maybe I'll pick up a lottery ticket soon, ya never know right? LOL

@@mandysimmons2769 oh I know exactly how you feel! I keep wishing to win some money! Dream of winning the lottery! But here's the thing, I don't even buy lotto tickets! 😂😂😂 No i wasn't trying to sell you a caravan, just showing that we do have double wides here also. My ancestry is Welsh too! (and Scottish and French, the French part goes back to the Huguenots fleeing France in the 16th century!) Wales is a beautiful country! Isn't it frustrating at our ages, that we're still having to pay stuff off! I just looked at the back garden, and said to my husband about the things that need doing out there, "basically we should just throw a couple of grand at it" because it all boils down to money or lack thereof! I don't own my home though, I live in a local council property, a bungalow, because of disabilities that came into my life from out of nowhere a few years back! Autoimmune illnesses that none of us saw coming! I don't want endless riches, but I would so love to travel... And live in a residential mobile home! Travel and caravans, that's my dream! Probably got some gypsy in my ancestry too with my caravan obsession! 😁 I bet Florida is stunning... You do live in a lovely area and the beaches are beautiful! Must be nice to live somewhere that's warm most of the time. Although I do live in the sunniest area of England statistically. Life is always better when the sun shines! 😘😘😘

The rotating section above the fireplace is such a good design. And those slim heating units against the walls -- nothing like that in US-made park model trailers. So much better than having heated air blown through ductwork. Too bad the US does not have such well-designed caravans.
