Fun fact: The PSP actually has frontwards compatibility (kind of) with the PS3 Remote Play. Sadly, a handful of PS3 games like Lair can only be played with the Remote Play which in my opinion is still impressive considering it's a PS3 next gen type of game playable on a PSP!

The reason why the PS4 shows "Urecognized Disc" instead of "Unsupported Disc" with the PS1 disc is: The PS4 drive does not have the needed laser to read any CD. Audio-CDs should have the same result.

The PS2 has backwards compatibility with all PS1 games. The First generation PlayStation 3 also had backwards compatibility with the PS2 and PS1 games. However, later generations of the PS3 did not have backwards compatibility.

Thanks man, now because of you I play PS1 games a lot on my ps3 yes I am a kid but thanks to lockdown and comic con I got really into retro gaming especially ps1 and 2 and I bought ps1 games thanks to this. Right now I have Spyro the dragon 1 and 2 (my favourite) gran turismo 1 and 2 and ridge racer type 4 and that's all thanks to you. Thanks man

So far I've only managed to try one game on the PS2: SSX3 with PAL and NTSC. Savedata is region restricted for this game.

Fun fact: not all PS2 games are on DVD. Some, especially really early ones, are actually on CD. A good way to tell is to check the reading surface: many of the PS2 CDs were blue in a short-lived replica of the purple-black PS1 CDs but none of the PS2 DVDs have had this done to them. A better way to tell is to look for the disc format's logo on the disc label - that's how I noticed NFS Hot Pursuit is a DVD.

Another fun fact: Blu-Ray discs actually have the exact same spiral shape as DVDs. The data is simply packed much more densely, to the point that it can't be accurately read back by a red laser.

Michael davis well I don’t f***ing care because they made over 2700 playable games for the ps2 and they didn’t stop making games till late 2015. The ps3 was shit because it died not long after it came out. Even Sony said themselves they fucked up on the the ps3 And the 7 core cell processor was a completely ass compared to the ps2s 300mhz processer And the orginal Xbox 360 arcade even ser passes the ps3 and ps4
