Years back Rosie and I visited Kaua'i and took a Kayak up a river and then a trail that should have led to a waterfall. Somehow we must have missed the main trail and ended up climbing the cliff cause we thought we heard people. Once up the cliff we couldn't get back down without getting hurt and ended up in a sugar cane field. After about a four or five hour hike we ended up on the road to town at a place that we called the cigar shop. The owner was very friendly and his friend drove us back to the Condo where we were staying. I called the Kayak place the next morning and they didn't even know we had not returned the Kayak. I went up the river with a friend in a two person Kayak the next day and we brought the Kayak back. Turned out to be a great adventure! No More cliff climbing for us as we enter into our mid seventies!

Back in the 80s a navy woman took me to Kauai and we drove up to waimea state park. There were four cabins there. We stayed in one of them overnight. That woman woke me up with her shivering around midnight. One blanket was not enough to keep her warm. I had to start a fire in the fireplace and cuddle up with her. She finally fell asleep. If those cabins are still there rent one of them and explore the park then go to the lookout at the kalalau cliffs. They are something else.

Thank-you for this excellent video !!! I've been to Oahu and Maui before , but now i really want to visit Kauai - it's really a natural wonder of the world with it's huge variety of beautiful scenery and adventure so unique !!! The reef safe sunscreen is a great idea !!!

Hanlei Town is where my grandparents are from and it is my favorite place in the world. My mom grew up on Maui which is great but Kauai has my heart.

Waimea Canyon should be #1 for anyone relatively fit enough to hike down and back up in one day. If you aren't in shape, train for it.

This is so helpful thank you so much!! Really great insight. On a side note, the tubing is over $150 per person.. 😫 did they up the price? Because that’s Not super budget friendly. My group loves doing these but they’re usually like $50 for the day.

We did the Na pali coast using the smaller like navy seal type boat and it was fantastic. great views, snorkeling, and you dont get the sea sick like feeling that the rocking back and forth on the catamarans can give you if you happen to get sea sick easily. Actually we did everything on your list except the helicopter tour. All of them are fantastic

that's a sea cow lying on the beach...i've visited waimea where the statue of captain cook is located...also hanapepe where most of the worker, native hawaiians as well as filipinos live...the sleeping giant mountain...the twin falls...the spouting horn...have a photo taken with the totem poles in the background...visited the old sugar mill..no longer operating ...turned into a museum..it's just a stone's throw from poipu aina estate where we planted fr.uit trees in the 2 lots that my daughter bought...they have a house tho in lihue @ pikake subdivision adjacent to puakea golf course....

As a haole kid from the mainland I went to the big island and got myself a job working for an orchard management company. Then I hooked up with this beautiful girl but I did not know that she had just broken up with her local boyfriend. I learned very quickly that as a haole that was not a very good idea! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Mannnnnn!!! That exact RIVER... can only be a trickle of a water at times....within a matter of one minute you can have a raging river and the signs say reach higher ground!!! Alot of tourist think the caves are shelter!! Uhuh!

Hello, thank you for all the tips. Video is amazing.!! Quick question; for the trail.. is it a loop? Or is it 11 miles in (I’m assuming the beach is the final destination) where camping is allowed? And then from there, hike back out? Meaning passing/crossing the crawlers ledge twice?🤔

I just wanted to say a reef safe and reef friendly label does not necessarily mean the sunscreen is okay for coral reefs. I would opt for physical sunscreen with only zinc oxide and titanium oxide as the active ingredients. According to the research I've done these are the only sunscreens that are truly reef safe and even Maui has enforced better restrictions on sunscreen. Also wanted to say although they may look fun helicopter rides emit so much greenhouse gases and are not environmentally friendly at all. They also create noise pollution.

We did a Na Pali boat tour several years ago, and we saw a bunch of spinner dolphins. One of the guys working the boat said they can sleep with half their brain at a time while still swimming and breathing. Whatever is going on, they are awesome creatures.

I know you didn't mention the Wailua Falls, but you showed your wife at the bottom of it at the end. How exactly did you get down there, especially now that going down the steep trail from above is Kapu and security waits at the top to ticket those that go down, when they get back up. Is it possible to paddle there in a kayak? Just take the south fork instead of the north fork of the river?

Kauai is for couples and lovers only. Not a lot to see or do. If a walk, sun tanning,swimming, or just sitting at the beach is your thing, than Kauai is for you. If you're adventurous dont go to Kauai. Waterfalls are viewed from distance only and most attraction are ruined by tourists and are banned from entering. If you do go, make sure you arrived before noon. Car rental is going to be hectic, might not get vehicle or your reserved vehicle, and the hotel might gave you room away if you get late in the afternoon or evening. Waited for 3hrs at the car rental place, didn't get the jeep, and the hotel lost the reservation. 10 o'clock and dark,businesses are closed. Safeway opens 24 hours, bought leftover foods, and slept in compact vehicle in Safeway parking lot.

Born and raised??? "Rubbish or opelu"?????!!! Young boy, if you can't even pronounce the Hawaiian word for rubbish, which is not opelu, which is a fish in Hawaii, but we call rubbish "opala"!!! Also, I was fluming on innertubes on Oahu inside the ko'olau mountains as well in north kohala off of the "ditch trail," 50 years ago! So, it's not only Kauai! No worries bruddah, it's just that if your going to represent Hawaii as a born and raised local, do it right, out of respect for the Hawaiians and those who have been doing these things from long ago!! Bty, traditionally the local boys on Kauai fiercely protected the island from being overwhelmed by outsiders and exploited, thereby ruining what was an uncrowded paradise!!! I lived on Kauai for many years back in the late 60's and early 70's before moving to the big island!! It's just sad to see what has happened to Hawaii now that it's so crowded and with the world wide web, and now smart (?) phones, it's never going to be the same. Enjoy, but practice malama and kokua and enjoy with respect! Aloha.
