The Black American Series is a 20-part narrative film of the history of descendants of America. It covers the historical, philosophical, and cultural elements of Black Americans. The definition of who is a Black American is based on historical and ethnic lineage. The series is linear and starts with Black Americans' history and progresses into the contributions of this group in innovation, science, music, and more. The series also covers this group's cultural and philosophical nuances from food, activities, beliefs, and festivities. Lastly, there is a call for a separate identity within the diaspora.

This video is beautiful. This video is brilliant. Thank you for making it. I just did what I could do to clear all of this up on a different KZfaq channel. A woman of Jamaican descent wants to call herself "Black American". What's wrong with calling herself "Jamaican American"? Is she embarrassed or ashamed of the term "Jamaican American?" "Afro Caribbean?" "West Indian?" Etc.? One way of doing this is using the "Genetic Communities" or "Genetic Groups" or "Recent Ancestors in the Americas" from Ancestry DNA, My Heritage, or 23andMe DNA.

If you read this, I personally want to tell you thank you for making this series ! I’m a 22 year old Black American Man and I’ve always questioned if we have our own facial features. Most black Americans are inclusive to other black people around the diaspora so we’ll usually say we all look the same. So throughout the years of research and observations of close black friends who were descendants of non black American black people. I clearly see a difference and it’s okay. I love being black American and our history and culture. God bless you.

I've been watching your series as you know and I love how you're doing this as an educational series. As a Black American or rather A Pre Civil War Black American Population Descendant, one of the things that we have to understand that we're a community that came from various tribes all throughout West and West-Central Africa. It was done so that slaves couldn't use their native language to communicate among themselves and use it to escape slavery. So this influence our genome and our phenotype. We have various things from those regions but it's made us unique in our looks and that's not even mentioning having Northwest European admixture whether from the British Isles or French or German or even Dutch and/or Indigenous admixture and we even have Malagasy ancestry which is also unique with an Asian/African phenotype. So being among our people all my life, I'm able to know who's among our people. Once we get to the place where we understand that we're our own unique ethnic community, it should provoke us to advocate for ourselves and our Community's empowerment. Keep doing what you're doing.

Recently, I have met quite a few light skinned and mixed race Haitians. Attractive people but they don’t look BA. Their mix is not the same as ours. They are polish. We as BA definitely have our own unique set of phenotypes

Another thing to speak on your point about MGM, in different degrees Black Americans(collectively) are multi generationally admixed going back to at least The Pre Civil War Black American Population of over 4 million because of slavery. For example, Virginia was basically the slave breeding capital of the US which means that our ancestors were brought to the US to produce slaves because our bodies were the most precious commodity to slave owners, traders and overseers. That's why 90% of that population were slaves and that affected our genome history and shaped our phenotype. Depending on what DNA test that I take, I have 21-24% Northwest European admixture and it came from slavery. By the time 1860 came along, only 2 of my Black American ancestors were free and they were former slaves themselves. It's all fun and games when you have 3rd cousin and 4th cousin tier matches on AncestryDNA(I have a 3rd cousin match and 4th cousin related matches) that are Southern White Americans because of slavery. This is many in our community's history in America. It's made us a resilient and triumphant community that we should be proud of.

This is a lie, and I really get sick of it being pushed. Do we have some white ancestry, way back in our DNA, maybe , a very few of us. Black Americans are indigenous to this land, so we have always had a deep, shiny rich red undertones to our skin. Our skin shines, our eyes are bright. Hernando De Soto said the Floridian indigenous Indians were black, with curly hair and a wide eyed look, saucer eyes. Think of Michael Jackson’s eyes as a young boy. Not every last one of our women were graped by WM. If this were the case, we’d have an admixture that would compare to the MEXICAN. Mexico used to be blk indigenous, until the were colonized. PR’s, Dominicas, they have a lot of European ancestry and it shows in how they look. Blk Americans, for the most part, still look exactly like our ancestors from 300 years ago plus.

I feel like Jamaicans and other West Indians and Black Americans look alike for the most part you would not know someone Jamaican until you see their clothing hear their accent or they’d have to tell you. Black starts looking different once you start seeing Haitians Nigerians so on and so forth.

I can tell Africans apart in terms of E. Or W. I probably get West mixed up with Central plenty of times. BAs looks vary so much any of those groups can sometimes look like us or us them. Even the groups we share no or little ancestry with because of the admixture.

@@Chika-ff6qs because they are bantus. all bantus look the same. AA have bantu blood which is why they heavily resemble bantus from west African or bantus all over the continent. I find it funny how this video tries to make different in terms of appearance by pulling up some AA that clearly have higher admixture of white European blood the 90% of AA look have afrocentric features that Nigerians and all those bantus have.

This doesn't make sense considering that black Americans come from several different tribes which have several different features within africa some black Americans have european and native blood but so do other descendants of slaves within the american continent Haitians and black Americans and africans have similar dna it takes thousands of years for genes to mutate to give a different phenotype

The objective facial features make sense, there is no work around comparing facial features that you can see. You can clearly see the difference between Black Americans and various tribes and groups of people in the Diaspora. There are outliers of course, but in general, when accounting for cadence, mannerisms, and looks, we can see the difference. This is not a bad thing and there is no real reason to even push back on the point

Ask yourself why you are fighting so hard to blend an ethnic group with the diaspora so bad. what are the ulterior motives of wanting to blatantly commit ethnocide against Black Americans with the "we all the same flat blackness trope" its dangerous to vulnerable indigenous populations such as the Black Americans.

We know our people and as far as looking at just your picture, if we can not tell, we will simply ask you where your grandparents were in the 1820-1890's. Your name alone gives it away. Your youtube name is extremely uncommon for Black Americans/Indians. But answer my question. Why do you want to blatantly commit the ethnocide of Black Americans by refusing to acknowledge their unique ethnicity and aesthetic? That is very colonizing behavior.

@@KaliJNS because It doesn't really make sense what your saying. Deontay wilder is a good example he looks straight out of Ghana. Chris tucker looks congolese mike tyson looks yoruba and I know countless, black Americans that look just like africans straight from the continent. Plus african americans are descended from west africa from various different tribes which all have various different features so to even say there is an average look doesn't make sense the fulani and igbo look different on average etc. Some african americans have a small amount of European dna some with a miniscule amount of native and they've only been in America for 500 years. if you study basic dna you would know that it takes thousands of years for dna to mutate to cause physical differences on a mass scale in populations. If your theory was right then wouldn't the average white americans have a distinct look from British and German or Irish people. They mixed with blacks and natives too right they have about 5 to 8% african dna and 5- 10% native yet they are indistinguishable from there european counterparts. I do get that some african americans look different but I would argue that the average black american doesn't look much different from a west african

Though I wanted to ask, what do you think of the term Soulaan? Soulaan is another way of saying African American, I kinda like it but wanted to see what you think.

Moving to Orlando Florida a few years ago I hadn't really paid attention much just always looked at blackness first. However now I can definitely tell Nigerians , Jamaican and Hattian apart easily.

My family is Black American. We have almost equal parts European and Native American. In lol honesty I look like a dark skin Native American person. People often think I'm half Asian, but I'm actually indigenous American, African and European. Most "native Americans" today have a lot of EUROPEAN dna.

I think itll help if mayby you see some past populations in Europe as being black historically but not describe as that depending on which European nation that there actually from and what language that they spoke then. Look up the Black Dutch or Aragon and Castilon history or Portugese history all these groups where "black" and they all came toa America. You can keep that in mind if that helps

2 years later great video and I've studied slave rebellions in the United State we had alot I can say that much I know of at least 60 or so. I mean if you research on how we were fighting back in Jim Crow and the defiant spirit in the Deacons of Defense and guys like Fred Ahmed Evans, Robert F Williams, Hartman Turnbow, Jimmie Lee Jackson, and many others and compare it to Jemmy Cato of the Stono Rebellion of 1739 you see where that rebellious and defiant will comes from. Different time periods but we had the same spirit to fight for our freedom.

@@jaynothing2049 I noticed a lot of Nigerian women cosplay American women when they are American-born. Nigerians usually have prominent features about them, including mixed Nigerians, for example, the celebrities Ice Spice and Sada. BUT YOU ALWAYS HAVE EXCEPTION TO THE RULE.

Continued...Not to say the second wave were not...But...It was the first wave that did the most damage... Enough damage that it shut down the Slave Trade for a couple of years. My family line goes back even before the Slave Trade... Family out of GA, MS, FL and SC... @@TheGeeLuv His name was King Sanders... It is said that he was kidnapped from his tribe... He was recognized as being different and was referred to as African... He settled in Shabuta then Heidelberg Mississippi... He was treated differently from the Foundational Black Americans Hebrew Slaves which were already here... King Sanders may have arrived possibly in the 1850's is my guess... I believe when he arrived in the U.S. slavery had been abolished. You may ask what slave ship he arrived on... It is very possible he arrived on the Shrooner Clotilda in the late 1800's (Possibly 1850's)... It is said that he was kidnapped from the Congo... It's very possible that his Tribe was Bantu... Many slaves which came from Africa to the U.S. in the States of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are Bantu... In Louisiana many came from Angola... In Louisiana there is a notorious prison called Angola. In my entire family King Sander's was the Only African and possible non Hebrew... He was able to purchase 40 acres. Which my family still lives on even today as family Heirloom. Who was King Sanders? He was my Mother's, Mother's (My Grandmother Lannie), Mother's Father... Or something like that... King Sanders married twice... So he had two families. It was also rumored that he also lived in Sabuta Mississippi... Which is not far from Heidelberg... Keep in mind that this part of Mississippi has a lot of Choctaw... My family is mixed heavy with Choctaw on my Mother's side. So King Sanders arrived on one of the last Slaves Ships possibly the The Shooner Clotilda... You can Goggle this Ship... The remains of it was found in Alabama. lastly, Did you know that that the American slaves were mainly Hebrews gathered from The Congo and Angola? Then transferred by Tribes such as the Fante and other Akan tribes to include Ghana tribes, Nigerian tribes, Arabs and Jews... Also did you know that that when Slavery was "Outlawed" in the U.S.... The same African tribes which sold my Ancestors to the U.S.... Began to sell their own people to the West indies such as Jamaica and Etc... The Slaves in the U.S. we're about 3 generations removed from Africa... Before Slavery began in Jamaica and Haiti. The Europeans was scared to get caught of the shores of America with Slave Ships... If they were caught the crew would be executed period. So the same tribes began to sell their own brothers and Sister tribes... Example in Jamaica the Moron's (Fante) from Ghanna... Sold out the other tribes... The Marons made a deal with the British and was given land in the Mountains of Jamaica... And came into Alliance with the British Slavers... If any Slaves escaped into Maroon land... The Maroon would return them back to the Slavers... AND... If the Slaves began to revolt... The Marons would help the British Slavers to kill any uprisings.
